Yeah, looking like a "just-short-of-majority" minority government. Which tbh is probably a good choice - NDP is getting slaughtered here, and would probably be more than happy getting pandered to by the liberals while they lick their wounds and try to find... some way of actually moving forward (probably without Singh, people don't seem to actually like him much).

It's less ndp being slaughtered and more that ndp voters consolidate their vote to liberal to stop PP.

This is more akin to war time action and temporary. If liberals want to keep the ndp on their side. They will need to do better right now. Temporary truce won't last long and ndp voters will go back.

I mean, if NDP loses their "official" party status, there may not be much of a party to go back to. NDP needs 4 to 5 more seats and some of them are iffy.

A minority liberal government is probably the best course of action. It keeps the Conservatives from forming a mandate and forces the Liberals to have to co-operate with the NDP to get some things done. Conservatives won't play ball - we know that much.

It'll be a tough government if at least Liberal + NDP can't get a majority, because the cons will refuse to play with the liberals at all and BQ is tough to ever deal with.

At this point I don't even care about a majority. Minority governments actually try to get things done, where majority they just pass everything no matter what.

It's looking good for Carney., but still too close for comfort while we wait for early votes to be counted.

My riding is still being counted, and the Cons have a lead. I actually looked up the con candidate, and he seems like a decent guy, I just couldn't vote for him because of his party.

Disagree, I think a Liberal minority government just means that we'll be back to the polls within a year, at the most.

so, my brother is just spamming me on whatsapp about how the liberals winning is a giant mistake, and how we'll get what we voted for.

now, keep in mind, he was in favor of trump winning.

Seems like an ideal situation too since working with the NDP means passing more progressive policies. That being said, Singh needs to be dropped from the party.

The only way that will happen is if the Conservatives and NDP think they can bleed support away from the Liberals, and Mark Carney slips in favourability rating. Conversely, Carney could call an early election if he thinks they have a strong chance of forming a majority government. I'd like to see them not do either of those things for a good long while. We need to weather Trump's storm before we do any stupid internal bickering bullshit.

It's almost a guarantee, yes. There are a lot of close ridings though, and supposedly the advance poll votes are counted last, which could lean more Liberal.

Only if Libs + NDP aren't enough to claim a majority. If NDP can't maintain official party status, they'll need the threat of dissolving a liberal government to stay alive, and the cons will immediately call for an election if they have the power to.

There are a ton of really close ridings, so as the last polls come in we'll probably see some flux here - I've also seen currently 157-148 Liberal-Conservative

I don't know if its actually true, but I've heard advance polls are last, which would definitely skew liberal.

The Lib-Tory count is worryingly narrow yet theyre barely mentioning it. Am I missing something?

Terra Nova in Newfoundland. It's been extremely close from the start and theres now a 20 vote difference with 266/270 reported.

Carleton. Only 5/266 reported but the Liberals have taken the lead in PP's riding.

Hamilton Centre: Long-time NDP stronghold currently being lead by the Cons. Maybe the best example you can find of NDP and Liberals splitting the vote.

This happened in BC when Christy Clark didn't win her riding, but the party won overall. Just wondering if it works the same for official opposition.

No, he would have to get someone who did win to resign and then run again in a by-election.
