I wanted this but I concede that there wasn't enough time to do so.

God, all those right wing tears on X are giving me super strength.

On one hand I don't think the Conservatives are doing badly enough for PP to actually be forced to resign as Leader if he comes back and does end up retaining his seat.

On the other hand literally none of the other party leaders like him so keeping him around to just continue to be some stupid yappy dog would be fucking stupid, especially with how much power the Bloc is going to end up holding.

My local media that I usually use keeps being "experts predict the winner of the election will either be the liberals or the conservatives."

Yes. We probably won't know the full extent for a little while until the final polls are finally counted, but the liberals have won and we're basically waiting to see by how much.

The Conservatives having that many seats with a minority Liberal government sounds like there will be headaches in the future. That's way too close for comfort and almost mirrors what happens here in the USA.

But at least sane Canadians can celebrate for a while.

I don't know what the turnout is going to be like at the end of this, but the liberals now have more votes than in 2021 and the conservatives are poised to break their vote total from last time, also.

Right now the Liberals, NDP, and Green Party would have 171 combined seats. O_o

I've stayed up in the past to watch French election results, but after Trump, I just need to play some video games to keep my mind occupied on something else

I'm curious to know what the voter demographics are, specifically the 18-29 male vote. If it shows they voted for Conservatives in majority numbers, then Canada has the same problem we have in the USA.

Leaning Conservative, probably a lock but it hasn't been called yet according to CBC.

Neighbouring riding Calgary Confederation is really tight, only riding in the city with a chance of not going Conservative.

Update: Confederation is now Liberal leading.

Yeah. currently Full Cons + Full Bloc means majority, and liberals + NDP + Greens still need at one Bloc to vote for what they want.

This ultimately means unless we get some last-minute liberal gains (which isn't impossible - the only polls really left are early voting which should lean liberal) very little is gonna happen for the next couple years.

I've been following Carleton, at one point the Liberals were at 58% of the vote there so Pierre is closing the gap. I hope he loses.

Brampton North might be the riding to watch to get the Liberals to 172 (with NDP). Really close race that the Cons are currently leading in. All the Brampton ridings are really close.

We're still possibly in a good timeline - Currently leading is Liberals 163 - NDP 8 - Green 1 - meaning that the three of them can in fact hit a plurality of seats and we can actually have stuff get done.

At this second, Libs and NDP have 172 votes together.

The Bloc seems to HATE PP as well so it's likely BQ will vote Liberal more often than they will Con.

PP would dangle another referendum if it meant he could form the government.

Because they are Quebec first more than anything else. But the point was moreso they would effectively be able to decide anything. Add to that while on paper Quebec leans centre left, Quebec politics are also pretty socially conservative - they just don't vote conservative because Quebec has its own minority culture they pretty adamantly protect.

It's not likely they'd be fully on board with the conservatives, but the fact they'd be able to partner with the cons to help the cons get a vote passed gives them a ton of power. If both the liberals and conservatives can partner with the Bloc to get something passed, its a history-making level of power for the Bloc.

That was a while ago, the Bloc today are a different party. It's not ideal if they're who the Liberals have to work with but it's manageable, it's not something to doom about.
