I understand not liking Schumer generally, but I've seen no real indication that Democrats ending the shutdown is his fault, or anyone's really, other than the 8 or so centrist Dems who decided to vote with Republicans. The leaders of each half of Congress are supposed to lead their people, but they don't actually have the power to compel them to vote one way or another on anything.

He should retire now. It would easily be the best thing hes ever done in his political career if he did so.

Yes, just a completely wild coincidence that the Dems that voted to end the shut down just happen to be the ones most insulated from primary challengers. Not only that but if you don't want to believe that Schumer is responsible? You still have to grapple with the overwhelming incompetence of him not even being able to keep his whip in line.

And it's strange that their votes don't reflect their positions before then. For example, Tim Kaine had already specifically criticized Thune's offer to hold a vote in the Senate as empty because it wasn't guarantee to pass and because there wasn't even a guarantee for a vote in the House.

Daily show had a collection of clips of them saying they wouldn't cave and even saying it would cause people to die from lack of insurance only for them to then cave and conveniently forget about all that.

No matter how you look at it Schumer needs to go. He's weak and ineffective and is completely incapable of meeting the challenge that is the modern Republican party, he's been a gross disappointment going back even to Trump's first term.

How much work is it? Its not like theyre there 9 to 5. They make close to $200K to just show up when theres a session and sit through some meetings every now and then. Staffers probably draft all the bills and such.

That primary is gonna be a bloodbath considering how many people are gonna go for that seat
