What is IP again? IP is the other kind of points you earn when you play matches. You earn both XP and IP and IP are the points that you use to purchase runes and champions. Yes, thats right, you have to "buy" the champions, but you get the points for free so its not a bad deal. (You can also spend real money on champion packs if you would rather not take the time to earn them) The point is that you get the IP for free so you should figure out which champions you are good with and spend it on those. When you buy a champion you will have it unlocked on your account forever. And if you don't buy ANY champions, you will still have access to 10 of them. Every week there are 10 "free" champions. But they are only free for the week and 10 different champions will be free the next week. And so if you are level 1 you still have 10 champions available to you and so try them out, figure out which one you might like to spend points on and then buy it.
And so IP is good for Champions and Runes. You can also spend *real money* to unlock champions but you can NOT unlock runes with real money, only IP and so runes have to be earned.
To sum up: You have an account that goes up to level 30 (this is your summoner level) You earn XP (to level up the account) and IP (to buy champions/runes) every time you play a match You have rune pages (with up to 30 slots) You have a mastery page to spec (with up to 30 points) (and you can respec as much as you want)
This is probably a bit over-kill and so if something doesnt quite make sense just ask and someone will clarify. And if you are going to start playing please post: (1) Your GameFAQs name (2) Your Summoner name (this is different than your log-in name) (3) Your preferred champions. Its just nice to know which champions people prefer to play or use the most.
And please BOLD THE INFORMATION so we will see it and update the list accordingly.

What is League of Legends? League of Legends is a team game very similar to the WarCraft 3 custom map DotA. There are two bases, one on either side of the map and several "lanes" between the bases along which AI controlled units spawn. An overhead view of the 5v5 map looks about like this:
There is a base in the bottom left, and a base in the top right. 3 lanes connect the two bases and every 30 seconds AI controlled "minions" spawn in each lane. Everyone who is in the game controls 1 "champion" unit and your job as a team is to push your lanes and destroy the opposing base. The lanes are protected by turrets and so you need your own minions along side you to be able to kill the turrets without getting targeted by them. 2 bases, 3 lanes, 5 players per team.
What are Champions? Champions are the powerful units that you get to control. You pick 1 before the map loads and that is the champion you will use for that match. Champions start each match at level 1 their max level is 18. The important thing to consider is the stats of the champion you select will be affected by the level of your account.
What do 'account-levels' have to do with anything? When you create an account you have a level 1 account. That is called your 'Summoner Level'. You are the summoner, and the champion you select for the match is the 'summoned'. You increase your summoner level by playing matches. Every match you play will earn you XP and IP. Earning enough XP will increase your summoner level with the max level being 30. Wins are worth more XP/IP than losses, so try to win. Your summoner level also determines: (1) How many runes you can slot and (2) How many mastery points you can allot
If you are low leveled still and playing by yourself then the game will try and pair you against similarly leveled opponents, but if you are playing with higher leveled friends then it will seek higher leveled opponents. Just something to consider when you start learning how to play.

Janna is indeed very active. She's good if you're good, and by good I mean "OMGMAZING" because she has a hard CC, a soft CC, a heal, a knockback, a good shield, an AD buff, and a global MS buff, which is a TON of stuff.
Alistar meanwhile is...different. He's like Taric: you need to make things happen for your carry by setting him up for tons of kills instead of going AFK and healing while staying back, and later on he becomes either a force of nature that deals crazy damage while being nigh unkillable or an incredible support that donates all his farm and can still initiate and tank like a boss. He's even more active than Janna, but requires a specific mindset to play.

And then Janna protects Vayne from a Leona+Garen+Wukong tower dive, launches Garen into a wall where Vayne stuns him while tower peppers him, slows down Leona so Brand can Pyroclasm her and kill her, and proceeds to help with dragon because why the hell not. Supports are mighty at low elo. Really really powerful. This isn't even talking about how Soraka + Carry is almost free elo because most people don't know how to counter it, either.

kennen/ashe/ap shaco who all did no damage and an OK shen
they did no damage because their team consisted of leona/amumu/taric/irelia/vayne
vayne got fed by ashe, but even then we still had a chance to win because our advantage would be lategame when ashe and I would just wreck faces. it doesn't work when one by one they would throw themselves at 1v4 situations. I was low in enemy territory and had perfectly escaped, dodging multiple mummy bandages and was B'ing, only to find out that our kennen, then ashe, then shaco all individually threw themselves at the pursuing team to save me, and they all died because they're ****ing morons
I still ended up positive, but by the time that they were pushing our towers they realized I was the only threat and would chain stun me for 8 seconds at a time while my team diddled themselves
I sincerely hope that 5+ stuns, 3 tanks, and a carry (with a stun) isn't the new meta game because I will literally uninstall my game if that happens. there was absolutely no fun in that loss whatsoever.
can't really learn anything either
"our initiator is clueless, I guess I'll try and target vayne. lololol nope I can't move for forever"
how is that my fault at all
It isn't. If you went tanktheon and worked with shen to bait a ton of CC away from Ashe and Kennen, they could have killed Vayne and then Irelia, leaving the enemy team out of ways to deal damage, but that assumes your allies aren't baddies, which they were. Pretty much the only thing you can draw from that, barring individual mistakes, is "carry harder nub".

red13n posted... PS: If you still don't believe me, look at Merc's game as Janna. If 5-0-17 (or was it 27? I forget) isn't tearing **** up, nothing is.
Honestly, thats just having a good janna game. Janna doesnt really carry a solo queue game. Also thats the only reason I stuck a (mostly) before dying a lot. Because aside from that, you guys pretty much died a lot.
Right, but my point stands. He played excellently, and trying to knock him for the amount of times he has died is not only mean but misguided. He makes mistakes (like the fiddles game where we lost, we had Orianna, Rumble, Galio and Fids and he forgot to ult first in a bunch of fights), but they're all easy to see and easy to fix, and hell, he corrects them once I point them out to him. If you want to rag on me for dying go right ahead, but don't mess with a duoqueue buddy who gives a 110% effort every game and rescued me from the 1.1k vortex almost singlehandedly (with Cole and Peaf for the assist).
PS: Also, this might surprise the people who haven't played with me in a while, but I'm learning how to die less, very slowly. Having taken up Jax again and playing lots of glassy morde has taught me how to look out for abilities that will kill me, and I'm learning to do that instinctively. Haven't had tons of progress just yet, but at least I know how to improve now.
PPS: I need to reiterate one more time that critizicing Merc for dying a lot is very dickish. My computer is too old to run LoLReplay without turning the game into something unplayable, but if I could I'd record our games so you could see that he delivers with tremendous consistency. I'll see if I can find a way to work around the terribleness of my comp: I really think that if you saw him play you wouldn't point and laugh like you did here.

And just so as to explain further why you're so deeply, deeply, terribly wrong: we had to kill Morde before he raised any shield because he was a megatank and killed us through our dumb carry in spite of having crap damage by himself. This meant that Merc had to go in alone, at the right times, without creeps nearby, into a mass of enemies, and our combined efforts had to burst like 2.8k of HP with resists at 150/200 or thereabouts in less than two seconds. He went above and beyond the call of duty to get us the win and I will not ****ing tolerate you dissing him just because you feel like being a smug ass. If you want to do that, go trashtalk some noobs in coop vs. AI, instead of attempting to diss a good player to boost your puny little ego.

actually from the looks of things you guys are (mostly) dying a lot and just happen to be winning. Tearing up is not the word I'd use there.
Look up the profile of the user FaR007 and then look at his last ranked game. That's the morde we beat, who only got as fed as he did because our Corki KEPT GOING INTO MELEE RANGE AGAINST HIM. Our scores are 100% irrelevant to this discussion, Red. Scores end up bad when you have an incredible idiot who keeps trying to turn fights into 4v6s and have to dramatically alter your strategies to win, as well as having to carry AND tank at the same time because your team doesn't have a true initiator (we had the bad corki, a taric who did his job of stunning the enemy katarina perfectly, and a brand who nuked the enemy team down well). Merc HAD to suicide on morde so I could chop him down, or we would have lost because, again, our carry, who built nothing but offensive items, used his escape to close into the range of the guy who could twoshot him, fight after fight. Winning because you were just plain better than your opponent and commandeered your team to do your bidding and beat an enemy team that ended up way more fed than you did is precisely what I'd describe as tearing up elo hell. We're climbing up the ranks by fighting smartly, one game at a time.
PS: If you still don't believe me, look at Merc's game as Janna. If 5-0-17 (or was it 27? I forget) isn't tearing **** up, nothing is. The only reason that isn't a perfect game is because those kills didn't go to me. Otherwise, that's a textbook perfect play.

Maybe one of these many people who seem to be breaking into ranked games themselves now, I could join some of you. Just a thought.
I'd be up for it if you have these things:
A) Enough runes to have a decent AD page and a mage page. B) At least two junglers and two of Amumu, Alistar, Malphite, Galio, Jarvan IV, and other initiators.
Ranked is very hostile at first if you're on your own, but much smoother when you have pals, and those first wins count for a lot, so I'd be down for helping you secure them. Same goes for Aecioo, of course. :)

A) Magecraft (Use MAG instead of STR to calculate attack damage).
...And with it comes a slick, dark blue umbrella, long and thin. You cautiously wave it around, and inspect your hand. No burns, naturally...
"That's that. Why don't you try getting used to it? That umbrella is going to keep the nightmare beasts of the underworld from skewering yo, after all." Fallon suggests, stepping back. Following his suggestion, you lift the umbrella, then bring it down, abruptly stop...
...And with a sound much like that of a swiss army knife suddenly drawn, you see a blade almost a foot long protruding from the top of the umbrella, and a pulse of blue energy courses through it. Fallon gives you a wry smile.
"The Forge never fails. I shouldn't have doubted its ability to give you something good." After sparing a wink at the glowing orb, Fallon turns back to you.
(Misc Theme 1, Fire-Forged Bond:
[Unnamed Magecraft Blade Guard has been equipped!] [MAG has been increased by 2 points!]
25) "Now that umbrella needs a name. Names have power, and the Forge Items have a strong enough identity to require one. Come to think of that, doesn't your Sprite have a name too? If not, you really should give it one." A) Input Name for Umbrella and Sprite. B) Let the Writer pick Names.

Maniac64 posted... And now I really wish we had gone with the Jian.
And I'd say A or B. Extra Focus could be really helpful, and I'm not sure how often we will be doing normal attacks.
There's several factors to consider here, which I'll outline since I think an informed decision is best:
A) The frequency with which you'll attack is entirely dependant on the upgrade paths you choose and how majorly your spells outstrip your attacks. At the moment, for instance, there is precisely zero reason to attack unless your enemy is pretty much dead or has monstrous RES, because Relentless Resolve is quite spammable and deals more damage than a basic attack with a single cast, not to mention the Empower status makes it a meat grinder. Even if you have to Focus every other turn to cast, RR tends to be better than your current basic attack, because a meager two casts per turn pump out more DPR and there's rather low odds of not getting the 8 MP necessary due to the bell curve distribution of the dice. Of course, this assumes you can take the extra damage from entering Focus, which may not always be the case.
B) Going into a Lotus Focus state will always provide you with at least 9 MP, and as much as 28 in a best-case scenario. This means you can fire off two volleys of triple-RR and then Turn the Tides without having to refuel, but it also means you're exposing yourself to taking 137.5% damage, or as much as 162.5% if the attack is a fire elemental attack. Etta's volley would have one-shotted both you and the sprite pre-defenses with that multiplier, and you would have been defeated regardless the next turn. Damage adds up fast if you aren't careful about entering a Focus state, and this goes double for a Lotus Focus.
C) Water physical attacks have advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, Earth creatures will take reduced damage, but on the other hand, your physical attacks now absolutely wreck Fire enemies. Once again using Etta as an example, she'd have dealt you 22 damage post-resists if the Lucky Seven had been a Firebrand weapon. That really, really stings even after splitting it in half due to Blood Link.
D) Without going into mechanics, let me note that your WIL is already very high. It doesn't translate straight up to critchance and dodge, but the value you see listed does not go through an arcane equation to transform into your actual % chance. A WIL of 42 is absolutely phenomenal, and since critical hits are a doubling of your raw damage values, this translates to some heavily increased basic attack damage, because a high defense matters less, as you saw when the Sprite dealt good damage even through Etta's excellent DEF.
E) Repeating is a simple damage buff to certain spells (currently just one, but there will be more if you make the choices for it). A max-power RR deals 2.25*MAG normally, or 45 damage. With Repeating, that's 57 damage. With Unyielding Resolve and Repeating, the damage comes out to 71. Of course, resists must be factored in, and they apply more than once per RR, so do note that the Repeating increase is global and occurs after the "final" damage has been calculated.

You wonder what to say in response to Fallon's question. The truth is, you're not sure about what weapon to choose - two days ago, the closest thing to a weapon you had ever handled was a kitchen knife. You don't have any training, or experience with weapons, and you would only put yourself in danger if you tried to handle one. You realize that is the answer you were looking for, and let him know. He shakes his head, however.
"You can't say that, kid. You haven't faced more than one monster, yet. When the **** hits the fan, a Forge Item will be your shield and your sword, the one thing that will keep you hanging on when everything seems lost. None of us wants to fight, but the romans said it best: if you want peace, prepare for war." He looks at you and steps forward, putting a hand on each of your shoulders.
"Look, maybe you weren't thinking broad enough. Let's do this again. Think of something you'd like to have on a bad day. An item that makes you feel more secure, safe, and ready to step out into a wild world. I'll do the rest. Oh, and don't break eye contact with me until I give you the green light. So, what is the thing you'd most want by your side on a bad day?"
You do as instructed, gazing into Fallon's soft green eyes. Almost instantly, you feel an urge to blink, but resist it. You rack your brains, trying to think about things you'd want on a bad day. A shield? No. Someone to stand by your side? No, that isn't an item...you think and think, but in the end, for some reason, there's only one thing that comes to mind...
"An umbrella?!" Fallon says, breaking contact and giving you a look of disbelief, though you haven't said a word. "Really? Well, it's your life, kid, and I'm not about to argue with you over it. If you want to Forge an umbrella, then we'll go with that, but...what an odd choice." He murmurs, as he turns his attention to the glowing orb. "Stick your hand in here. Yes, you heard me." He says, noticing your reluctance. "Don't be a sissy and do it. You'll be fine."
Slowly, you move forward. Damn, it's so hot in here! You feel like you could faint at the drop of a hat, but push forward regardless. You take a step, then another, and another, until you're right next to the orb. It's so hot, you might melt if you stay in place any longer. Best to get it over with...gritting your teeth, you lift a hand and plunge it into the orb, fully expecting to end up scorched and in need of medical attention in a moment.
Instead, the heat fizzles out, and the room becomes wonderfully cool. Relieved, you let out a sigh, and Fallon nods.
"Good work. Now think of the umbrella, and that should be it."
As you begin to focus on the umbrella, you feel a surge of heat flare up from within the orb, so hot as to be painful. With a yell, you swiftly pull your hand back out...
24) Please select a weapon property. A) Magecraft (Use MAG instead of STR to calculate attack damage). B) Lotus (When entering Focus, can opt to take the average values of the dice instead of rolling or multiply their result by 50% pre-roll, but if either option is chosen the Focus extra damage taken is increased to 37.5%) C) Aquabrand (Makes all physical attacks Water elemental by default) D) Heartseeker (Doubles WIL for the purpose of calculating crit chances) E) Repeating (Damage of multi-hitting attacks increased by 25%)

Yeah, that's my impression too. HR's augs are less like Shadowrun chrome and more like mostly subtle boosts. DX's augs are big flashy stuff, like spawning combat drones with NANOMACHINES.

metroid13 posted... Assault rifle is pretty useless, imo. I go for shotguns and pistols.
Nah, the rifle's really cash for a pitched fight where the sniper rifle doesn't work, particularly if you have some explosives for it. Not to say shotguns aren't good (on my first playthrough, I solo'd an assault mech with the sabot sawn off shotty and it was awesome), but as far as killing the lategame enemies go, the assault rifle is the best weapon in combat. Sniper Rifle tools it if you get the drop on them obv.
