But really, how do you pronounce Mjrna? I'm guessing myer-nah. Or something like that. Am I close?

Isn't it pronounced the same as Myrna, or close enough?

sounds great

Truthfully I'm not sure how I'll handle my weapons, though. Things are gonna get a bit dicey.

The Burai Dagger has some cool powers, and I like how it gives me an at-will flight early, but its enhancement bonus lags behind.

The Jagged Dagger has enhanced crit and a useful crit effect, which is nice.

The Lightning Dagger represents free +3 damage on nonlightning powers thanks to my Lightning Soul feat, plus even more when you take into account my level 12 paragon utility power.

Pretty soon I may also want a Queen's Staff so I can get higher bonuses from the Gifts of the Queen set, representing a substantial increase of damage with lightning powers. But of course, I'm not good with staves...

So many weapons, so few hands. Jagged + Lightning is the most convenient, but turning down the free reprisal power of the artifact or the sizeable damage bonus of the Staff is hard.

And this is why the Disembodied Hand familiar exists. If I could make a recommendation, I'd use the Burai Dagger mainhand when the enhancement bonus upgrades, the Jagged Dagger when shooting many targets otherwise, and the Lightning Dagger for single target tomfoolery. The Queen's Staff should be more of an offhand kinda deal.

Looks good, but I think a 20 year-old elf would be comparable to a three year-old human. I think he ought to more along the lines of 130.

Elven age has never made any sense, anyway. I pretty much just assume they develop at human speed these days, which IIRC is the PHB party line. Alternatively, it's funnier to say they develop way faster than humans and that at the age of 3 (that is, literally 3), you get a fully developed elf, kind of...

And the justified complaint is that... you have too few choices, and one of these choices is that you don't get to pick who the protagonist is.

Oooooookay.

No, the justified complaint is that having a protagonist that is more defined, but poorly, shatters immersion, and reduces the player's ability to delve into the game world and live the adventure through his protagonist. Again, you have to read between the lines for this, because nerds are notoriously poor at articulating their complaints, including the one who wrote this article. Compare the Bhaalspawn of the Baldur's Gate series, or the Shepard of Mass Effect to Hawke. There's some very major differences between the former two, but they're much more similar to each other than the latter.

Actually, it's Bioware's adventure.

Since they're making it.

It isn't, Biscuit. 'I'm making the adventure' does not mean 'I'm going to make the choices for the player in a role playing game'. They are entirely different things, and people majorly resent being forced to take actions they don't consider logical or appealing - which includes being forced to be a certain character instead of making your own protagonist. There's a fair bit of whining, as Neon says, but there's a justified complaint at the core.

are the origin stories really that necessary? i mean they're cool in the first game i guess but I can't say that there were any points in the second where i thought, "yep, this game would be so much better if i could be an elf"

It's a masked complaint. What 'I want Origin stories' really means is, 'I want to play my characters, not yours, Bioware bro. Stop forcing your character on me. It's MY adventure.'. That complaint make more sense now?

Summary of the last session:

-Went on and got some Vampire hunt'n done.
-Took on Gregory, the unkillable vampire.
-He proved to be very killable by the goad-then-stake method.
-Took on Roger, the Storm Master.
-Brona had more mastery over the elements than he did.
-Attained paragon tier.

-Assaulted Carla the Swordmistress' stronghold.
-Found Reen the Battlemind there instead.
-Reen turned out to be Eren's sister, and Eren isn't actually dead!
-We fought Reen, soundly defeating her.
-She doth protest too much.
-Valerian doth KO and kidnap nubile young women too much, mayhaps.
-Met Cool Bowler Dude Johnathan.
-Made friends with him, sorta.
-Left Reen with the Russicans.
-Met Vladimir the Eldest Vampire.
-Learned of his son...Rax, the man we'd been working with.
-Returned to the bunker where Rax was only to find Reen had taken care of him.
-Received many congratulations from the Russicans, left Eren for them to raise.
-Received a message that Rael's Fourth Hand, Asabew, was waiting for us on the deck of the SS Unnamed.
-Met Asabew, who asked for protection.
-Asabew revealed Eren's crystal was trapped.
-Made a mad dash to retrieve it, but arrived too late.
-Eren is trapped in the crystal now, unless a mage of incredible skill is found.
-Made preparations for traveling in time to change history. A tremendous source of power is needed: Omna's Godhead.
-Before tackling the Godhead, decided to retrieve powerful items to aid our quest: The Primal Heart, the Ki Artifact, the Idol of Rael, and the Shoggoth Magicpiece.
-Went for the Shoggoth Magicpiece.
-End session. Tons of XP gained.

I think a do-or-die system could fix that in theory. The problem would be that, well, games could end really fast like that. I think maybe something like "every time somebody takes a strike something bad happens to everyone" could be a potential way around that issue though.

If I really get somebody who'll help run things, I'll do something like this, yeah. Party line will be that Monobear dislikes stupidity, so he punishes everybody for it to make sure the dunces are taken care of, one way or another. Stuff like say, sealing the cafeteria for two or three days to force people to scrounge for food or take penalties, going up in severity the harder people derp.

Speaking of the next game...a lot of people said they'd be up for hosting, correct? Assuming you wouldn't have to write flavor text and focus only on the weird connections between actions (like how Lisel caught scep due to a random, offbeat action), would anybody be actually interested in hosting a new game or was that all idle words? I could write the fluff text up to set the mood if necessary.

Besides stuff everyone knows, like BFES, World Rev, The Extreme, Still More Fighting, Force Your Way, Battle on the Big Bridge, etc?

Just 'cause everybody knows them doesn't mean there isn't a good excuse to repost them!

Let's start with some classics:

Battle at the Big Bridge, 20th Anniversary Version:
Force Your Way, Black Mages Version: (My personal favorite battle theme, ever)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV, Turtles in Time, Boss Theme:
Streets of Rage Remake v5, Max Man II: (A very different sort of intensity compared to the others, but just as deserving of applause. Few themes convey a message as clearly as this one...and in this case, the message is 'your **** gon' get wrecked, son')
Streets of Rage Remake v5, Attack The Barbarian: (Great for getting pumped up!)
Streets of Rage Remake v5, Mona/Lisa: (Really, pick a SoRR song, any SoRR song. It's either beautiful, catchy, or badass fight music. This is probably my favorite though)
Chrono Trigger, Boss 1: (Some people prefer Boss 2 - I, personally, think Boss 1 packs a much bigger punch)

And then, the slightly more obscure stuff:

Unreal Tournament, Organic:
Doom: Dark Side of Phobos Arrange Album, Hangarmaggeddon: (Just how hard can a tune from an old-ass game rock? THIS HARD.)
Final Fantasy 8, All Existence Denied, The Extreme Dwelling of Duels Mix: http://www.dwellingofduels.net/dodarchive/09-05-Free_Month/14-Skummel%20Maske,%20LuIzA-Final%20Fantasy%208-All%20Existence%20Denied%20The%20Extreme-DoD.mp3
Yoshi's Island, Koopa Remix:
Frank Klepacki, He Lives:
Command and Conquer Red Alert 2, Hell March 2: ('Die Waffen...Legt Ahn!')
Etrian Odyssey 3, Is That Thine Blood or Thine Enemy's?: (F. O. E.)
Etrian Odyssey 3, Disturbances ~ Hoist The Sword With Pride In The Heart: (Nothing much to say about this tune - it's fast, catchy, and pretty good at pumping you up. Good BOSS FIGHT theme!)
Etrian Odyssey 3, Battlefield ~ The First Campaign: (Chiptune music didn't die after the Genesis and SNES era - it just leveled up and became more hardcore, if this kickin' rad tune is proof of anything. Incidentally, Yuzo Koshiro is a god)
Etrian Odyssey 3, The First Campaign Super Arrange Version: (Speaking of leveling up...the same theme above, but now with live instruments, and boy does it sound great!)

And since you mentioned Kara no Kyokai, non-game music is go, so lemme mention just a couple choice pieces.

Dropkick Murphys, I'm Shipping Up To Boston: (You talkin' Boss Strings, you got your Boss Strings right here! Doesn't get much more intense than making a freakin' banjo sound like hell is coming to wreck some poor bastard's ****)
Ayreon, Chaos: (Not the battle music for anything, but it easily could be. Lookit that shredding!)

And last, but most certainly not least...

Fatboy Slim, Right Here, Right Now: (Movies have used it for years as a backdrop to fight scenes. The guys behind movie music had very good reasons for it)

This should be enough for now. I've got more if needed, though!

That's exactly why Kanz's playstyle doesn't work as well. People will be coming up with crazy plans to win. Look at me: I won and did very, very little to actually deserve it. Seriously, Maria pulled all the legwork. Aside from KCF, I was in absolutely no danger from beginning to end. If Maria won, I won too (because too many people would take a strike). If Maria lost, I was still in the game and would've had access to a Rocket Launcher.

See my last post. Literally all you need is a small edge to pull off the murder, I just didn't have it at the start besides trying for a really messy kill. Extra speed doesn't do all that much for you when you know people will be equipped with tools to solve easy murders (note that I actually didn't know when I started playing, but I expected it)

Same with me. That was amazing!

(And Kanz --> Riding things out is well and good if everybody does the same. However, I think the best way to win was to be very active and stretch the rules as much as possible without killing people. The most direct way to win is to prompt strikes out of people, and the best way to do that is to actually make sure that people take the wrong decisions.)

No, you ride things out assuming everybody else will try to kill each other actually - that nobody's your friend. My playstyle wasn't predicated on cooperation, it was based on looking for any edges I could find and going for a murder when I could find a way to do so without being caught, but otherwise minimizing the amount of ways someone could target me.

Disclosing his reasoning would have been stupid, though. Trust me when I say I was really glad that KP didn't outline his reasoning a bit more!

The point is to misdirect people as much as possible so that people get strikes. I never understood all of those who were upfront with their real suspicions. Although maybe I'm just playing a more selfish game.

It's more logical to let people pick each other off than to do this. The two best ways to win are to either go for a murder or ride things out, really.

The only complaint I have coming out of this is being allowed to kill people during a trial on that person's life/death status (For obvious reasons. We had it all right that she was alive and hiding and WHOOPS SHE WAS JUST MURDERED LAST-SECOND <_<;)

Would love to see this done again. Consider a cohost next time. Hell, I'd consider it as long as it fit my schedule.

Actually yeah, this is definitely a loophole that shouldn't have happened. Justin at a minimum should have been told, even if he couldn't tell the rest of us.

yeah I think I only complained about one thing but it is worth mentioning that the game was a lot of fun. I think anyone who complained about the game even would still agree the fun aspects of it greatly outweighed any unfortunate shortcomings.

after all, this was just a test game.

Agreed. I've got no complaints about the game, except Tom holding things up and not being there when it mattered. Haguile ran things perfectly, and I'd love to play another game. Definitely think a co-host would be required to ease the workload though.

So now that this is all over and done with, who dropped the bullet? Sure as hell wasn't me, I even tried to remove them to get rid of them and Haguile said they wouldn't come out~

Oh, so Monobear left us a red herring? No wonder things didn't fit.

Yes, they were meant to give despair points, something that never came into play due to almost nobody trusting anybody >_>

There's no reason to trust if there's no legit payoff. Trust has to give you something up-front to make it worthwhile - the gamble has to have an immediate return, a further return if you trusted someone who was clean, and a devastating loss if you trusted a bastard. But that's just my inner designer talking.

Question now that the game is done: Did the watches actually have an effect? Still curious about that.

your bad logic aside, you posted that on 8:32, not :31 at all.

The latest vote was still at 31. Just clearing that up - this point is not arguable, just whether 31:XX counts.
