But I was a little "meh" before on the game. The whole concept of breaking through terrain permanently in a platformer was pretty cool but the Treehouse didn't show much else beyond getting a couple collectibles and one challenge stage. This Direct showed a lot more to the game and now it's got me. I haven't had the heart to completely push back on the BS they're feeding her (I have a bad habit of avoiding any kind of conflict), but I kept telling her it's better to look at multiple news source like I do, because any one source is always gonna be biased. Eventually I saw her going back to watching the other news channels alongside those right-wing channels, but she still mostly sides with the right-wing ones. When it comes to the routes, driving to a course in Grand Prix and online is...meh. Thankfully though in online, it offers players the option to race in traditional 3 lap courses. Knockout Tour is the big mode that takes advantage of these routes though and is extremely fun. As for the trick system, the game is still fairly new so people are still trying to figure out what's actually faster or not. Done right you can easily get a lead, but done wrong it won't make much of a difference. The way they treat fan content has been infamously authoritarian, and I'm not particularly happy with the increased pricing as it's something I'll probably rarely ever engage with (except for games I deem worth the price like Xenoblade, $60 for those games feels like a steal). But they haven't stopped creating those fun and innovative games that gave them their household name. Mario Kart World evolves the kart-racing genre to a new level with its advanced trick system and how the design of its courses take advantage of it to open up far more shortcuts than usual. It's the Mario Kart that pushed the series forward the most since the advent of full 3D graphics, I'd say. Hell, in a few weeks from now that new DK game comes out and I haven't seen its "nearly everything in the world can be destroyed or dug through to permanently alter the level" kind of gameplay ever done before. And also, for the record, I actually personally prefer how they're doing their legacy content this time. I wanted two things out of the VC service: stop restarting the service with each console and making us buy the same old games again, or give us a subscription service so I can have more value by trying out different games without having to shell out five dollars for an NES game I probably won't like.
