Is treasure island considered a classic in the similar vein? As in I know it's old and well known, but is it ever studied in English class?

I remember it being a very simple yet enjoyable story when reading it as a kid

See, I remember thinking the same thing because we read the first page as a class together (this was in 2008 when I was 17) and I immediately thought it sounded like an online rant from some edgy emo kid or something lol.

When I found out the book was from the 1940s I was both surprised and soon after, very impressed

A small little week long snippet into a very troubled and polarising teenage boy who iirc gets expelled (or maybe just suspended) from his boarding school and before wanting to tell his parents wants to experience a prostitute, visit a few bars, visit some friends and see parts of New York among other things. Nothing major happens but we get a lot of insight into his opinions on the world. It is arguable he has a mental illness based on other people's reactions to him in conversations

For the time it was written, the dialogue feels incredibly ahead of it's time. It feels like it's really captured how people talk. The description of new York is also on point and helps someone who's never been there like myself picture it as it was in the 1940s

I like to muck around with nicknames for them, call my mum "mother dearest" in a stupid posh English voice

But mommy and daddy... They just feel too sexual use to ever use

It took me a long time to be able to admit to girls I'm kinda submissive. Thought it would make a lot not want to date me because in my mind, the majority of them prefer being the submissive one

He's more just the prototypical teenager I think - but it's still amazingly ahead of its time

The scenes in the beginning with his friends(not that he really likes them much) in the school dormitory, it's so crazy to me those chapters were written in the 1940s. I've been there, I've had those conversations

All good! Just in case you were wanted one last bit of info, there's both storyline and practical reasons for there being a minute to reflect/a minutes break before the match continues

Practical reasons is for the dudes to rest and get their actual legit stamina back

The storyline reason is to sell the strength of their moves on each other, basically if they brush it off and jump back to their feet with a smile, it weakens the image of the other guy's storyline power so they both sell it like they're nearly dead

And yes the match in the clip is not over, because there's yet to be a 3 count

Yeah, well in that scenario it's more based on a wrestler being fully fresh and at say, 100%HP. A standard wrestler's finisher might do let's say 75% damage (pulled that number out of my ass) so if ever it was gonna be kicked out of, it'd be at the start of a match

Some finishing moves, like Undertaker's tombstone piledriver, are generally presented as OHKOs regardless of when they're used and kicking out of them is a huge deal

I hope the Pokemon comparisons make sense lol

Basically a one count makes the defender look more like a professional athlete that can't be taken down easily and helps sell the illusion of it being a real contest. If everything gets at least a two count it makes the product seem more like the staged theater that it is.

What's the point of these flashy and high impact moves if they're not selling any of it? Selling is what gives it impact!

It felt like it was a very meta little sequence of moments. It was like 3-4 moments where they subverted expectations of what wrestling fans would expect 90% of the time in each situation, with the 1 count at the end making the least sense of all lol

It basically makes them look weak offensively but very strong defensively, as in they both look like they have high kayfabe HP now through the no selling but very low kayfabe attacking power... Through the no selling.

So the good stuff is cancelled out and the whole thing is pointless other than to swerve/subvert expectations, but the applause was because wrestling fans love unpredictability

I think I was kinda in a bad place at the time and not in the mood to fully engage with a movie if that makes sense, but I too remember being incredibly bored watching it in the cinema(was dragged along by a friend) All I remember is sand and really loud annoying droning noises throughout the movie and being happy when it ended

I'd like to point out false accusations of sexual harassment like rape and more is not as rare as you make it sound.

The black community in particular has great history of many us being thrown in prison or killed due to false accusations of sexual assault on a white woman.

An investigation should definitely be held, but you shouldn't just be believing a person is guilty just because an accusation is thrown out there. Just believing all woman are telling the truth is dangerous too.

People will say you're not meant to take it literally or some bullshit but it was always a really dumb slogan, even if there were good intentions behind it. It felt condescending at the time and in hindsight kinda dangerous because truth is not something one gender gets more ownership of and even the mere suggestion of it is pretty messed up

I'm actually working really hard on this, but it's really hard to do with my recent dating experiences. Featured a lot of highly memorable and hurtful moments. Like I find it so difficult to keep bouncing back, and I don't want to give up so I'll continue to keep swiping and meeting strangers and risking confusion, heartache, mental instability

Pretty much this, episode 4 of season 2 was basically just action start to finish, lots of covenant, cool tech, warthogs, scorpion tanks, Needlers, and it was visually awesome. They packed a ton of Halo into one episode, but you kinda wonder why they waited so long. If you are looking for accurate story lore, you'll probably be disappointed. What they are managing now with the action feels on point now.

I guess as long as it has the weapons and vehicles it'll still feel familiar to the games, but yeah I was hoping you were gonna tell me season 1 was pre Fall of Reach stuff and season 2 was Halo CE's story, which I always thought was the strongest plotline in the series

What's so great about it? Haven't seen a single episode but loved the games

Is the first season a bit fanficcy and season 2 actual storylines from the games?

She got into a controversy over the term "birthing person" and for some reason decided to lean more right on every single issue, whether economic and social

Kinda the opposite of what TC wanted, but I know Cpl Upham from Saving Private Ryan (the coward character) gets a ton of hate online. His cowardice got his friend stabbed to death etc
