I've just started reading the Broken Earth trilogy. It's a pretty interesting one so far. It's interesting reading fantasy where the magic users are reviled by society instead of propped up.

Yeah, it had a very Wheel of Time feel in that(and only that) regard. I loved first book, need to finish the series.

It's not standard across the board, but the fact is one department did discriminate along that lines, which was the article we all recalled that you denied ever existing. It is not us that has no stance, it's just you.

No, it's literally you that claimed

I do recall an article posted here years back talking about how people who score high on IQ tests tend to get bored too easily on the job so they do discriminate their applicants on that basis.

when the reality is there's evidence of only one department doing this, so making a claim that police in general do it is misleading at best and lying at worst. ESPECIALLY considering that article is nearly 20 years old, the Supreme Court advised against the practice in their ruling, and despite every ignorant anti-cop poster on the internet citing that same ruling, I've yet to see a single one present another case of that happening, even in the same department.

This.

It might be a partial requirement in my state though. The local police departments have recruited at the colleges here, and when I was taking Criminal Justice myself, my professors strongly encouraged further schooling if we wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement. My favorite professor said too many people misunderstand what it means to be a police officer and that's why she tries to focus on the logistical side of policing, i.e. laws, regulations (local and state), and paperwork. She loved that last one too, always telling us how incoming police officers underestimate the amount of paperwork there is in the job.

Yup. Here in Portland, OR they heavily urge you to have education, and actually prefer it in an unrelated field. Not just because it shows dedication, but having established outside interests is very important in their eyes regarding reducing stress on the job.

It's not an argument, because you have no actual stance. The SC ruled they could do it, but that doesn't mean that it's wise, or that police departments do it. That one department did it at that time, that's literally all it says.

I'll be starting a reread soon so maybe when I read Oathbringer for a second time I'll feel differently.

This isn't true for fighting games. Not knowing what to do is going to get you murderstomped in 3 seconds, unless it's mahvel or somesuch, where you get stuck in a 100+ hit combo for a minute.

I've seen matches where people are playing an expected meta and -only- an expected meta, but that's an amateur thing to do.

It's absolutely true for fighting games, though the degree of how true varies from game to game. Unfamiliar matchups and off meta champs are one thing, but the big issue is fighting games are very heavily about mind games, and those only work when the opponent knows what they're doing to some degree. A random attack at the wrong time can connect and be a big threat, though you're very unlikely to kill because, as you said, combos are huge.

an amateur competitive player in a lot of video/card games. Anything from poker to counterstrike to your fighting game of choice, the randomness of facing a new player is often harder to predict and react to than the amateur who follows patterns you might understand more.
