yeah i figured this would be the case a couple weeks ago when i saw discussion shift from December 14th to January 6th. that's technically after Congress' term (ends the 3rd) so they'll be working with the new batch elected.

that said i can't see it be more than a PR stunt. states vote today, after that it's done. another batch of voters going to DC won't mean anything; January's just another formalizing of the step today has with even less chance to change anything, if that's even possible (i think that's state dependent?).

i can think of a few other reasons but ultimately the conclusion won't change. either they don't see it, don't know it, or refuse to see/know it (either they can't or have no intention of changing their minds). i'd assume the last one is what you run into more. best you can do honestly is just wait a few months and hope it's magically seen/understood.

for reference, anti-trump, neutral to trump, or pro-trump can hold very similar positions on this, but i get that for some it needs to exist as a qualifier to try to get through.

there's a significant number of people who will believe the first few claims, see the significant whiplash to something else, and call bullshit on the second and not the first. this just creates a distrust that gets worse the more political something becomes and the influx of confusing data hits.

tony and para are both telling you this exists because they see it exist. i'm pretty sure corrik will know examples too (i know some myself but have effectively given up on trying in here). the answer to this isn't saying it's insignificant, saying they don't exist, or whatever else, it's revising what you think. you're otherwise just behaving in the same way as the anti-mask people being described.

It's not that I want Fauci's head on a pike. He made a mistake, not committed a crime, and I don't want him to be buried for this. But he shouldn't be put up on a pedestal either. it is a notable step down from your initial claim too, which is the only thing i really objected to there since he's not as culpable and he didn't completely fuck us with what he did. still, there's a worship around him which exists and that worship is exactly why anti-mask people use his words. if that worship towards him didn't exist, the argument would be used significantly less.

absolutely not surprised by it, which is why you've gotta just be up front that the lie happened. you've gotta validate the argument because it's more true than not and they saw it with their own eyes. the complete shift to "WEAR A MASK ALL THE TIME NO MATTER WHAT" is also nonsense, you've gotta make sure that in between is known. stuff like wear it in your own house, wear it while eating, wear it when nobody's around, etc are all things that'll make them balk, especially as they see people telling them to do that not do it at all.

i can't see this.
the early on messaging was saying it either didn't work or it was one-way - protecting others from you. while that didn't make sense we kinda got stuck with both premises happening but i see anti-mask wearers that use Fauci as an argument as doing so because he's a person pro-mask people like.

my take to those people is just admitting that yeah, he and other officials lied about it and it sucks. however, we can see objectively that societies with widespread mask usage have performed better. it ain't perfect, distance is still king. some situations exist where mask wearing isn't useful or plausible, that's fine. but if you're going indoors to a store or something, just do it so others have peace of mind about it too.

they were saying that too but i agree. the method used was pretty different than either of us would've liked since it relies on zero trust or faith in the people; sacrifice the masses in the short term because those supplies will save significantly more people in the long term with doctors and nurses having it. strictly from a utilitarian perspective, it works. ...now a utilitarian doctor is also not what you want, ever, so that's a problem. but you know he at least isn't somebody who completely fucked us there, unless you believe that calculation is wrong and that there was a significantly better way to handle those limited supplies.

i mean fauci knew what he was doing and saying there, so calling it a lie is fair. under the specific nuance he was saying, probably true, but that's just a case of needing specific phrasing to be true when he knew better. was the surgeon general who was more blunt on saying no masks don't work, fauci had more caveats to be able to argue he didn't lie, issue is he didn't tell the whole truth either.

that said, i do also understand why the lie there was happening since people were hoarding masks and preventing doctors and nurses from having it. if he, surgeon general, etc all felt they needed to lie to be able to maintain some supplies, i totally get it. that's not a case of being untrustworthy or having completely fucked us, just a case where the way priorities were focused is rather mechanical.

yes, all the time. hell, i'm on one right now.
these days it's very easy to find a good VPN. am familiar with Nord, PIA, Proton, and Windscribe, all are solid. heard good things about Express.

Proton is free and a great option to start with. limited value for certain things like torrents or netflix but as far as free security goes, it's solid. all the other options don't care about what you do on your connection, with some that bypass netflix's anti-vpn checks.

Windscribe is with the best lifetime option, especially on sale. easily, at that. said subscription allows unlimited devices, unlimited connections, so you don't need to ever think about it as opposed to limits like 6 devices. as a result, if you buy it for cheap you're basically set until they're dead or you move on. they also do have a free version to try out, though you're limited by 10GB i think.

PIA and Nord are fairly interchangable. PIA is cheaper and maybe a little worse these days but for features they're both a step up from windscribe. now, whether you'd use those features is a different story.

Express i haven't tried as it's pricier. but i've heard it's also the best of these.

personally i don't hate jeremy, but i do enjoy making fun of him as he gets too into culture war shit in a way that is somehow mixes in being dumb, inaccurate, true, and sounds smug even when he's not trying to be it. he also has too much of a one track mind when on a story and there's a point where he just has to let it go because he's not making sense anymore - he regularly has tunnel vision and goes on for too long.

now that's not to do with the stuff he released on magic the gathering or wizard of the coast. he was spot on there and that tenacity is a great thing when dealing with pedos and sex offenders, especially when the company was running cover for their judges because they'd be open to huge liabilities. plenty of misinformation happened on him (e.g., he didn't dox anyone) and the stuff he showed was that... yeah, there's a lot of people who are in magic that are in it for kids and very limited, if any, oversight exists on this. i'm sure the same is true of yugioh and pokemon too, i've definitely heard rumors and stories on the former from friends who've played that says yeah, it's kinda dicey. so on this front which made him popular among culture war stuff? definitely good guy to have and i would've liked it more if he stayed on this stuff more, though i understand he's gotta branch out.

all that said, he's still fun to mock, insult, and totally clickbaits. and everything i said at the first paragraph is true, which makes him easier to joke about. i mean c'mon, the man literally got assaulted by someone else in a bar at a convention and then got banned from it. that's just funny shit considering the dude's like 6'6, 300 pounds, got sucker punched, banned, and only cried about it on the internet.

let's put it this way, using a different ruleset but probably is similar enough on this: Shadowrun.
you can have cyber limbs and compartments in them to hide things. this includes fingertip compartments. weapons can be stored in them too.

it is not completely out there to have a cyberdick with a weapon inside. definitely on the weird end but also no reason it can't be a thing. now maybe this aspect is different, especially with red as i haven't read that yet. but it's a thing.

Like I said, rehab being the punishment doesn't really work. Because... rehab has to be a choice. Otherwise it spoils the atmosphere for everyone there.

this is true as well. drugs have that split issue where to break addiction the person needs to be heavy handed about it with themselves but outsiders being heavy handed doesn't solve anything. don't know what goes on in this world but it basically seems like you need a firm answer and bottom - which government can do well - while also having a way to allow people to climb out - which government is not good at. i do remember there was a tactic of giving heroin addicts weed instead to just drag them out of the worse drug, don't know how effective that was/how much it advanced since weed was more illegal then than now. so there def needs to be a more tactical solution here, even if it means legalizing simpler drugs to counter more difficult ones like heroin and meth.

there's a thin line between usage and distribution that it unfortunately becomes really difficult to tell. if you're with a supply of 3-5 hits of whatever drug, technically that can be just for you or it can be for you and a friend or two. like yeah there's a certain point where obviously it's not for one person but there's a very, very wide grey area, including some that just goes "look i just bought my week's supply."

when you decriminalize usage you do decriminalize most low amounts of distribution as well where the only way to get caught selling is literally selling. the middle ground of keep it illegal but make punishment different manages to allow a second step to determine which of the two it is: someone who needs help or someone who needs to be in jail. or both.

if it's PS4 Pro or Series X it's not unacceptably bad, it's very similar to GTA5 on PS3/360.
but if it's base PS4, Series S, or any derivative of them, yeaaah no.

what's "essential" is absolutely a matter of opinion.
that's something made painfully clear with the way different states have different rules or the way different countries have different rules. there's no universal doctrine of essential or not, the most you've got is basically food and water as something everyone agreed on but after that it's a crapshoot. some of those "essential" aspects are purely economical because states are broke too.

base xbone is more or less the One S and... yeah, nothing enjoyable on that.
plenty of people have a One X or PS4 Pro though, they've got notably better performance and people tend to buy the higher ends when it's an option.

but for your ability to play this game, you can't. not unless you want to play it at 15-20 FPS anyway. future patches will try to improve it but don't get your hopes up here.
