I work for the government and they got rid of permanent positions a few years before I joined. I'm on 6 year long terms

Which is great for the government if they want to make sure people are productive. But is also terrible for the government since that and pensions (probably also rip soon) were the main reasons people cared about federal jobs in the first place instead of going to industry where they could make >2x more money (and also probably smoke marijuana). So of course they're now experiencing a brain drain in the technical areas, and are now dropping degree requirements for IT workers.

I do something along those lines too as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, where you can sign up to drive people to/from their cancer treatment visits. I've always wanted to do something like that in my spare time for some reason and I had a good excuse now that I have a CUV instead of a coupe.

I've only been able to do it 3 times though in the last ~4 months because most appointments are during weekday work hours, and my last 2 cancelled. One forgot because she was completely delirious after treatment and somehow arranged another trip back home, and had to focus on that explanation from one of her medical assistants because I was initially a little irritated that I drove 20 miles one way for nothing. The other cancelled the night before
