Kinda confused by the generation parameters. This is the last day, but it only goes up to 2020? Switch is lumped in with Wii U? Oh well

We're currently in the 9th generation and about to enter 10th generation. I'm not sure if Switch 2 is super late to 9th gen or super early to 10th gen, but it's looking more like the latter.

1. You may vote up to 4 entries that fit the prompt.
2. No alts.
3. No deleting or editing posts; though, editing posts shortly after you post is fine.
4. If you change your vote, clearly indicate that you are changing a previous vote. Same for adding or subtracting picks.
5. In general, if there are two picks that can be considered the same product (i.e. Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle), I will combine them.
6. If a vote is vague, I will pick the first available choice that best matches the vote (i.e. "Mario" for Wii Games becomes Super Mario Galaxy).
7. I will post the parameters of each Rushmore topic. Other than that, feel free to vote however you like and based on any criteria that best fits the "Mount Rushmore" of that topic.
8. If a vote doesn't fit the topic, it will count as a blank vote.
9. You may nominate as much as you want and have an unlimited amount of seconds for established nominations.

Not quite clear cut, as there was a very close race for 4th. Dark Souls barely takes it after taking a moment to get any votes.

Last 5 Rushmores

3rd-Generation Video Games: Super Mario Bros. / The Legend of Zelda / Tetris / Dragon Quest III
4th-Generation Video Games: Street Fighter II / Doom / Sonic the Hedgehog 2 / Super Mario World
5th-Generation Video Games: Final Fantasy VII / Super Mario 64 / Zelda: Ocarina of Time / Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow
6th-Generation Video Games: Halo / Super Smash Bros. Melee / World of Warcraft / Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
7th-Generation Video Games: Wii Sports / Minecraft / The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim / Dark Souls

This Week's Rushmores

Monday: Black Actors (belated Juneteenth special)
Tuesday: Fictional Evil Corporations
Wednesday: "You Don't Skip the Intro" (Animated)
Thursday: Video Games Ending in "5"
Friday: TV Villains
Saturday: Video Game Sound Effects
Sunday: Classic Rock Bands

Next Themed Week: July 7 - July 13 (Songs of the Decade)

Today's Parameters

You must pick video games from the 8th generation of video games.

For the 8th generation, it must be either a game from the below consoles/mobile devices/virtual reality OR a game released from 2012 to 2020 (including those years). For the latter, the games do not have to be on consoles: PC, arcade, and other forms of gaming are acceptable.

Nintendo 3DS
Playstation Vita
Wii U
Playstation 4
Xbox One
Nintendo Switch

Ports are fine, but they should be based on how they are on the above console/mobile list or the above year range.

I would still accept games that don't necessarily fit this parameter, as long as it's from the previous or next generation due to how fluid the generational lines are.

Balatro is more approachable imo because the idea of working with a standard deck of cards and poker hands is very simple and easy to understand, and you don't really have enemies in the conventional sense that you have to battle against. Balatro, therefore, is less a matter of reacting to what the game throws at you, and more just dealing with the randomness on your end in terms of upgrading your deck and playing your hand.

This is a good point. I played Balatro but bounced mostly off of it compared to Slay the Spire. To me, raising a high score is just harder to conceptualize than beat the enemies.

Shame about Hyperspace Outlaw. I would have written for it but I haven't finished it yet. All I will say is that it's a must-play if you have any memory of 2000s-era forums at all. Which should be all of us.

A mostly clear-cut day other than the close fight for 4th place.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/c/c11702ee.png

There were already clear issues with how I defined generations, but it really exposed itself here. A lot of debate was had on Tetris and where exactly it fits, as well as future generational issues. Tetris landed on the Rushmore with ease, but now I have more clear rules on what fits each generation. While this was mostly a runback of the NES Games Rushmore, Dragon Quest was actually able to score a spot on it, albeit barely.

So from what I can tell, generations are mostly defined by the graphical prowess and grouping similar consoles of similar power together. So 3rd generation is typically 8-bit, 4th generation is 16-bit, 5th generation is 64-bit, etc.

Consoles aren't always released in a neat order, so you get some yearly overlaps. There were 8-bit consoles being released after 16-bit and so forth. I should probably just list the consoles as opposed to this yearly stuff, so I'll do that.

Mobile is where things get weird, because while Game Boy came out around the time of N64 and PS1, it's working on a different set of hardware capabilities altogether. I'll just do a bit of research and add it to where the consensus feels they land in their appropriate generation.

Today's Parameters

You must pick video games from the 3rd generation of video games.

This period of time is typically defined from games released on consoles that came out between these years: 1983 to 1993.

Games do not necessarily have to be on consoles. PC, Arcade, Mobile, and other forms of gaming are acceptable as well.

Ports are fine, but they should be based on consoles or similar video game systems of the respective generation.

Games released outside the timeframe are fine, as long as they're on the console or similar video game systems of the respective generation.

It seems that generations are largely based on the console release date than the video game release date.

Also Im fine with a game belonging to multiple generations

I'm assuming all the Kratos votes were for Kratos from God of War!

Most of the discourse was around Bowser and if he really is the most appropriate choice for a dad or not. I'm on the "Nintendo doesn't typically touch fatherhood and they need a rep so they chose Bowser" side, but hey, they've been making a lot of those parental videos lately and they are well-made.

Next Themed Week: July 7 - July 13 (Songs of the Decade)

Today's Parameters

You must pick video games from the 2nd generation of video games.

This period of time is typically defined from games released on consoles that came out between these years: 1976 to 1984.

Ports are fine, but they should be based on consoles of the respective generation.

Games released outside the timeframe are fine, as long as they're on the console of the respective generation.

A bit of a boring day...but after the last few days, that's fine with me. I figured this would be a battle for 4th place and that's exactly what happened. Though, I did not expect Strawberry to falter so much that it was at risk of missing the Rushmore.

Shout-outs to Moose Track voters.

Today's Parameters

You must pick dads from video games.

Dads do not have to have biological children; they can have adoptive children or be father-like figures.

Dads can become dads at the beginning of a game, throughout the game, or at the end of the game.

If a character can be a dad through optional content or different endings, they count as being a dad.

Tons of superhero options! Turns out a lot opens up when you consider everyone, including those that don't necessarily match the comic aesthetic. Honestly, I'm surprised at some of the options that only got 1 or 2 votes, but it was a pretty stacked day.

And since I missed it last time, the full list of Emo Songs. Feel free to make a playlist and judge if any of these are emo songs.

This Week's Rushmores

Saturday: Ice Cream Flavors
Sunday: Video Game Dads (Father's Day special)

Next Themed Week: June 23 - 29: Generational Video Games (2nd Gen to 8th Gen)

Today's Parameters

You must pick ice cream flavors.

All forms of ice cream are accepted (gelato, mochi, etc), but you must focus on flavors and not the form it takes.

Mixtures of 2+ flavors are considered their own flavor. They should usually have their own name.

@totamech
@Lopen

With me ruling out the TMNT as an ensemble and not an individual superhero, I wanted to know if either of you wanted to change your vote.

I would still count totamech's vote for Michelangelo since it's an individual turtle.

Mega Mana's vote for a Super Sentai group will default to Kamen Rider for now, as it's an individual and also has a vote.

Im assuming this means superheroes only and not characters who might qualify by extensions like Ninja Turtles and Dragon Ball characters? I guess the DB world does have Great Saiyaman who could count though since he does dress up and act like a superhero though

I will leave it to interpretation, but this will be the Mount Rushmore of Superheroes in the end.

I forgot to mention it but youre welcome to include superheroes from universes where theyre more of a side character and more unusual.
