One of the concerns with VPNs and how much of this is blatant attempt at population control (bipartisan support and all) is that Labor and the crazy esafety commissioner will definitely start restricting access to those sooner or later.

Not even China (who are thousands of times more competent at social engineering and information control than anything Australia could ever dream of being) can actually crack down on stopping citizens escaping their censorship caves if they really want to, but I'm under no illusions that the bypasses will remain as easy as simply flicking the VPN switch of your browser to 'on' or even changing your DNS (which is slightly less accessible, especially to modern gens, but still very easy).

I have no faith in the public pushback happening. I think it's more likely people will be outraged briefly, adapt soon after (one section simply getting used to handing over their ID to third parties with zero accountability for security issues and the other via VPN and DNS bypasses), and then simply go back to ignoring the issue with the temporary fixes. The the screws will be slowly turned even further a year or two later (just after the next election, and probably VPNs being targeted).

Maybe I'm being too pessimistic and the Australian public will surprise me for the second time this year, after all I fully expected them to back Dutton and his lunacy into power (minority government, sure, but even in minority the Libs would've probably done irreparable damage to Australia this time around due to Trump's shenanigans and pressures) and instead they turned on Dutton so badly that I still almost can't believe the results. We'll see, but I've grown to never underestimate the apathy of the general Australian public and how much they can truly fuck things up as a result of that apathy.

Oh 100%, Australia is usually a testing ground for nations like the US. The US will look at what's been done here and the UK and start rolling out improved versions of it sooner rather than later, and odds are they'll start finding ways to make VPNs irrelevant while they're at it (stuff like websites knowing an account is from X country of origin thus enforcing the rules of country X regardless of a VPN being in use, things of that nature).

Anglophones are the direct descendants of puritans and that influence still shows in the culture of the governments, even Canada, which is probably the least sensitive about it, still has their moments.

There is bias in the awards, as any awards has, but it isn't anti Nintendo or pro Sony.

Numbers close to 90 is fair game.
If were using Mario Makers 88 then there are a lot more PS exclusive ones there too like Ghost of Tsushimas 88 and Spider-Man and FF7 remakes 87 that got nominated. Youre saying all those wouldnt have been looked at if it wasnt for Sony too? Its still notable that Nintendo hasnt had sub 85 games.

Yet Nintendo has never had its platformers win anything but family games. Kirby Forgotten Land didnt get nominated while Ratchet and Clank with a similar score did.

Keighley at least is pretty infamous for being partial towards PlayStation.

Still though, can you really say they have some kind of bias when most of those game of the year picks have been multiplatform stuff? Yeah new god of war and last of us 2 got in the years they released in, but so did zelda breath of the wild.

BOTW is one of if not the most iconic game of that decade. But it is notable that Nintendo games need a 90+ MC to even get nominated. Meanwhile sub-85 Wukong and Death Stranding got nominated. Astro Bot also won despite platformers generally getting snubbed.
