The r word is coming back too, and not just with teenagers. I've noticed more people using it real life where if you used it 10ish years ago it was really considered taboo. Also, some subreddits used to have the r word banned but are now un-banning it.

The R word was the test. Conservatives are starting with that word to gradually bring back others. They really want to say the N word.

I think the issue isn't so much that Sokka wasn't a exist character throughout his time in the show, but he certainly was in the 1st season. Since they removed that aspect of his character and replaced it with nothing they essentially removed any reason Sokka would have to grow as a character. Instead he's just very flat and kind of uninteresting. And that's not a Sokka exclusive issue either; a lot of the main cast suffers from just being flat and uninteresting. Compared to the cartoon where the characters were animated and had depth to them, the characters in the live action version were just boring to view.

The problem is promotions told us the change to Sokka and people hyper fixated on it. Sokka grew because he realized how weak he was. How as a guard for an out of touch village he really couldn't keep up with trained fighters. That's more important than him being sexist for three episodes. He's a big fish on a small pond who needs to find a new purpose surrounded by people stronger and more skilled than he is.

The LA version's problem was everything was duller, less interesting as a whole. In it's attempt to up the drama it essentially removed any fun from the characters.

I agree it was character development that was good for him. The only caveat I have to this is some vastly overstate on this idea of sexism being this huge part of his character.

Sokka was sexist at the very beginning of the series and it quickly ended with Suki which was like episode 2 or 3. Yet some act like sexism was his entire character for the remaining 55+ episodes.

People way exaggerate Sokka being sexist and how important it was. Honestly if promotion for the LA version didn't bring it up I doubt anyone would have noticed it was gone.

Yep. Oda also visits the set. And yeah the original show runner left at the end of season two. Hopefully Netflix won't use that opportunity to strike.

I get what they were going for with Bumi. He witnessed the whole hundred year war. Having him more bitter and cynical was fine. If Aang was as optimistic and playful as he was in season one of the cartoon, it may have worked. But that's kind of what the whole show did, it drained the fun by upping the realism of what a hundred year war would do to the survivors.

Honestly I keep comparing LA Avatar with LA One Piece. I feel both recreated the world as best they could and while One Piece made more changes because of how much more content it was adapting what it got right was the tone. The heart and soul of the original. Which is where Avatar missed the mark.

I didn't hate LA Avatar I just feel it came so close and then didn't fully deliver.

The biggest problem I had with season one was it was dull. It nothing horrible but the characters just felt less interesting, it lacked a soul.

Changes don't bother me, as long as it's interesting.

I can't exactly leave, my mom owns the house and refuses to kick out her daughter, who threatens to leave if her loser boyfriend is kicked out. If I could move I would. I can't.

The only show I almost didn't include was Cobra Kai since in started on a different streaming service. Otherwise I stuck with Netflix exclusives. Seeing how the One Piece anime is everywhere I meant the live action version.
