Antifar 07/31/25 8:21:21 AM #1 | https://hellgatenyc.com/anti-mamdani-pro-eric-adams-super-pac/ A new team of ultra-rich New Yorkers is forming to try and stop the Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani from winning the general election in Novemberand one of them has already pledged $500,000 to get it done.
Ricky Sandler, the head of the global asset firm Eminence Capital, is leading an effort to raise cash for a new anti-Mamdani super PAC.
"Like most of you, I am very concerned about the dire consequences of Zoran [sic] Mamdani becoming the Mayor of NYC," Sandler wrote in an email he sent out to friends on Thursday evening, which was obtained by Hell Gate. "He lacks the requisite experience, wants to defund the police, holds economic ideas proven to be disastrous to cities and espouses radical social views."
Sandler added that real estate titans Richard Mack and Marty Burger have agreed to join him, and that they have all been speaking with Jeff Leb, the head of the local super PAC New Yorkers for a Better Future, which has "the knowledge, the network and the track record that shows they are capable to execute on such a campaign." New Yorkers for a Better Future recently spent more than $1.2 million to influence a slew of City Council races in last month's primary.
The whole gang is hosting a Zoom call on Monday night, though if anyone wants to attend, Sandler said they should be prepared to write a five-figure check.
"If you would be willing to commit at least $25,000 to this effort (assuming you are satisfied after listening to them and doing your own diligence) then please join this call, I am committing at least $500,000 to this effort," Sandler wrote.
From the email, it appears that while the group might be getting advice from New Yorkers for a Better Future, which has a track record of spending cash to attack left-leaning Democrats, they want to start their own super PAC.
"We are looking to raise the funds that would go into an Independent Expenditure Fund (the "IEF") that we would control in order execute [sic] on a plan like this," Sandler wrote. "Richard, Marty, and I are happy to serve as gatekeepers and guardians for the money and / or agree to a different plan of oversight that the broader group suggests."
The new super PAC wouldn't just spend money to tear Mamdani downSandler wrote that his plan involves "implementing a media campaign to improve the image of Eric Adams and try to move up his results in polling."
"The logic behind this is that if Eric moves up in the polls in a meaningful way, Cuomo has said he will drop out," Sandler wrote.
Improving Eric Adams's image with New Yorkers "in a meaningful way" may be easier said than done. According to a Slingshot Strategies poll released earlier this month, the mayor currently has a negative 34 percent approval rating, and trails Mamdani by 22 points.
Sandler, who tweeted that he voted for "Cuomo, Tilson, Adams, Stringer and Blake" in the Democratic primary (and whose X account also features posts about his support for President Donald Trump, Trump's turbulent relationship with Elon Musk, Sandler's reverence for certain athletes who complain about their transgender peers, and why nominating AOC for president would be a "monumental mistake") did not respond to our emails or texts about his plans.
Mack, a real estate developer who was quoted in 2022 as saying that rent regulation "creates entitlement," and Burger, the former longtime CEO of Silverstein Properties before he was replaced in 2023 by Larry Silverstein's daughter, did not respond to our requests for comment.
Leb was coy when we reached him via text.
"We have had conversations with leaders across New York from diverse faiths and communities who are united in opposing Zohran's alarming inexperience and extreme viewsbefore Zohran can do lasting damage to our city's future," Leb wrote.
In his email, Sandler also wrote that his group would back efforts by the investor Lisa Blau, who has spent more than $500,000 of her own money with her super PAC Be Counted NYC to try and convince Republicans and independents to change their registration to vote in Democratic primaries, including during this year's primary.
"This IEF will also collaborate and support Lisa Blau's efforts and will have the freedom to support other entity's media expenditures, if consistent with the goals above," Sandler wrote, before adding that Blau would probably only be interested in attacking Mamdani, because "Lisa has indicated that she isnt comfortable doing direct candidate advocacy for Eric."
Blau, who is married to the CEO of the real estate development firm Related Companies, did not respond to emails sent to her investment company.
Mamdani's campaign didn't respond to our request for comment.
In addition to boosting the fortunes of Eric Adams, Sandler listed two other strategies that he said would give the group "the best chance" at tanking Mamdani's bid, including "an aggressive advertising and social media campaign micro targeting factual messages about Mamdani." (One example: "Attack him for wanting to eliminate merit-based admissions to NYC public schools to target Asian voters," which appears to be a reference to the specialized high school testing debate, though Mamdani has said he supports keeping those tests.)
Another strategy: "Grass roots door knocking and one to one communication to get people out to vote."
"All the Mamdani supporters came out in the primary and will come out in the general election. But we don't think he has many more supporters," Sandler wrote. "So, we need to mobilize enough of the larger majority to get off their couch and vote."
Sandler's super PAC would join a slew of other anti-Mamdani groups that have popped up since the primaryincluding Ray Kelly's Save NYC ("Say 'no' to Mamdani-ism"); Defend NYC, which was started by a former advisor to Donald Trump; and Protect the Protectors, spun up by political consultant Hank Sheinkopf. There is also Sensible City Inc., which spent $100,000 to run negative ads against Mamdani, and Fix the City, the Mike Bloomberg-funded behemoth that burned through more than $22 million during the primary$14 million to support Cuomo, and more than $7 million against Mamdani. The group has raised an additional $300,000 since the primary. Antifar 07/30/25 12:50:10 PM #1 | https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jeffrey-epstein-jail-video-investigation/ Just before 10:40 p.m., an orange shape is seen moving up the stairs leading to Epstein's tier. The report says. "Through review and analysis of the SHU video footage, witness statements, and BOP records, the OIG determined that at approximately 10:40 p.m. a CO [corrections officer], believed to be Noel, carried linen or inmate clothing up to the L Tier, which was the last time any CO approached the only entrance to the SHU tier in which Epstein was housed."
Video forensic experts who reviewed that footage at the request of CBS News were skeptical about that interpretation and suggested that the shape could be a person dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit climbing the stairs. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/c/c6b7ba43.jpg Conor McCourt, a retired NYPD sergeant and forensic video expert, told CBS News, "Based on the limited video, it's more likely it's a person in an [orange] uniform." ... In assessing the video, Justice Department officials have said no one could have entered Epstein's tier without being seen because (1) the staircase was visible on the tape, and (2) access to the SHU was only possible by passing through two locked doors, which are both off camera.
One door is remotely operated and one requires a physical key, which Noel told investigators only she and Thomas possessed. However, the video shows several individuals entering and exiting while Thomas and Noel are seen nowhere near the door, or not present at all, contradicting her statement. As a result, there is no way to know from the video if it indeed was possible for someone to enter the unit and climb the stairs to Epstein's cell without being seen. Topic | Substack sends users push notification for Nazi blog |
Antifar 07/30/25 12:36:33 PM #1 | https://www.patreon.com/posts/substack-sent-135263203 Substack sent a push alert encouraging users to subscribe to a Nazi newsletter that claimed Jewish people are a sickness and that we must eradicate minorities to build a White homeland.
NatSocToday describes itself as a weekly newsletter featuring opinions and news important to the National Socialist and White Nationalist Community.
The push alert was sent to an undisclosed number of users phones on Monday. Some people posted about the app alert on social media, confused why they were being prompted to subscribe to a Nazi blog.
I had [a swastika] pop up as a notification and Im like, wtf is this? Why am I getting this? one user said. I was quite alarmed and blocked it. Some users speculated that Substack had issued the push alert intentionally in order to generate engagement or that it was tied to Substacks recent fundraising round. Substack is primarily funded by Andreessen Horowitz, a firm whose founders have pushed extreme far right rhetoric.
I thought that Substack was just for diaries and things like that, a user who posted about receiving the alert on his Instagram story told User Mag. I didnt realize there was such a prominent presence of the far right on the app.
Substack said that the alert was issued by mistake. We discovered an error that caused some people to receive push notifications they should never have received, a spokesperson told User Mag. In some cases, these notifications were extremely offensive or disturbing. This was a serious error, and we apologize for the distress it caused. We have taken the relevant system offline, diagnosed the issue, and are making changes to ensure it doesnt happen again.
The most recent post on NatSocToday, the Nazi newsletter Substack promoted, speaks about the necessity of building a white-only America. So far, the newsletter has amassed 746 subscribers and hundreds of collective likes on Substack Notes, the platforms X competitor.
Users who clicked on NatSocTodays profile were recommended related content from another Nazi newsletter called White Rabbit, which identifies as a Southern White Nationalist and has garnered over 8,600 subscribers. The newsletter White Rabbit is also being recommended on the Substack app through its rising leaderboard. Recent posts by the White Rabbit promote Holocaust denialism and praise Hitler.
This is not the first time Substack has come under fire for promoting Nazi content. In 2023, the journalist Jonathan Katz at The Atlantic identified at least 16 newsletters featuring overt Nazi imagery, including the swastika and the sonnenrad, and several others promoting the Great Replacement theory. Several newsletters were run by outspoken white nationalists and at least four were operated by extremists involved with the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville in 2017.
In response, over 200 Substack writers signed an open letter titled Substackers Against Nazis, calling on the company to condemn the speech on the newsletters and tighten its moderation policies. Some well known technology and online culture writers like Casey Newton and Ryan Broderick abandoned the platform. Newton flagged seven publications explicitly supporting Nazi ideology and violence in January 2024. Substack quietly removed five of them but declined to revise its content moderation policies.
We dont like Nazis eitherwe wish no-one held those views, Substack's co-founder Hamish McKenzie said in a statement issued at the time. But some people do hold those and other extreme views. Given that, we don't think that censorship (including through demonetizing publications) makes the problem go awayin fact, it makes it worse.
But many high profile former users, like Newton, have argued that Substack has evolved beyond a traditional newsletter platform and now functions much more similarly to a modern social media app with algorithmic recommendations fueling internal discovery and growth. Push alerts and features like the rising lists show that the app is doing active promotion of some content, they claim.
Progressive Substack writers who disagree with the platforms handling of Nazi content say that backlash against the company is hurting their bottom line. Many would-be subscribers refuse to support Substacks published by smaller creators because they dont want any portion of their money going to a platform that they view as too tolerant of Nazis. And while competitors like Beehiiv and Patreon (which Im on!) have ramped up their product offerings, neither features the internal discovery systems that Substack offers and which many creators rely on to make a living. ... --- Please don't be weird in my topics |

Antifar 07/28/25 7:02:00 PM #1 | https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2024/feb/12/immigrant-child-laborers-killed-factories-osha Statements published over the weekend by New York elected officials mark a tonal shift in how Democrats are addressing Israel and the conflict in Gaza, with Israels allies sharpening their criticism of the country.
Democrats who once avoided public criticism of Israeli policy may now feel compelled to speak out amid the worsening starvation crisis. Another factor may be the political upset by Zohran Mamdani, a strident critic of Israel, in the New York City mayoral race.
Rep. Ritchie Torres, one of Israels most outspoken allies in Congress, called for an end to the war and said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus leadership was causing irreparable damage to the U.S.-Israel relationship. New York Attorney General Tish James led a letter signed by dozens of state and city lawmakers that blasted Israels military strategy and called for sustained, unrestricted humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.
The images coming out of Gaza, along with the growing outspokenness of the Democratic electorate on the issue in a longtime pro-Israel stronghold, make it harder for politicians to continue to embrace Israel without any criticism or distance, said Abe Foxman, the former longtime head of the Anti-Defamation League.
Polls show that Democratic voters are increasingly sympathetic to Palestinians. In a recent Quinnipiac survey, just 12% of Democrats sympathize more with Israelis in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Last month, 56% of voters in the Democratic mayoral primary picked Mamdani, a democratic socialist with a history of activism against Israel, as their nominee. Andrew Cuomo, the former New York governor and Mamdanis chief rival, suggested that for many younger and progressive voters, Mamdanis criticism of Israel may have been an asset rather than a vulnerability.
Halie Soifer, the chief executive of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, rejected the idea of a watershed moment in the Democratic Partys stance on Israel. Democrats continue to support the vital security relationship between our two countries, including U.S. military assistance, she said.
What has changed, Soifer said, is the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza that has many concerned. Supporters and friends of Israel, just like the majority of Jewish American voters, can hold two truths at once: we are both deeply invested in Israels future as a Jewish and democratic state and critical of some policies of the current Israeli government, she said. ... Others see the shift in rhetoric as a sign of the times, which require a more principled approach.
Amy Spitalnick, the CEO of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, said the war coupled with the rise of antisemitism since the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel has created the space for a complex and principled critique of Israeli policy.
It has far less to do with domestic politics in the United States than with the geopolitical landscape and the urgency of responding to that in a way that remains true to core values, which includes Israels security and a commitment to the dignity and rights of all people, she said.
Torres is a progressive Democrat who has, since his election to Congress in 2020, been a vocal defender of Israel and endorsed Cuomo in the mayoral primary. [Antifar's note: some of the facts in this sentence feel mutually exclusive] He addressed criticism of Israel among Democrats on Sunday Night With Chuck Todd on Noosphere.
He blamed it on Netanyahu, whose public rift with former President Barack Obama over the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran caused irreparable damage to Israels relationship with the Democratic Party.
When you inject yourself into partisan politics and put your thumb on the scale in favor of one political party, that sets a dangerous precedent, Torres said. And I believe that the consequences of that political geopolitical calculation continue to reverberate till this day.
Ronn Torossian, a public relations executive and philanthropist, who bundled hundreds of thousands for Torres after Oct. 7, said he severed ties with the congressman over his recent statements.
Sadly, Ritchie Torres no longer stands with the State of Israel, he said. Its clear that hes very concerned about his future in the Democratic Party. Torres recently returned personal contributions from Torossian and entrepreneur Michael Sinensky, following a report about their ties to Trump and the Likud party in Israel.
Sadly, its clear that whether it is changing times or political expediency, his love for the Jewish people is limited to a love of a left-wing Jewish government, Torossian said.
Some commentators described Mamdanis election last month as a broader political realignment which has led to concern among some Democrats about it opening the door to strident criticism of Israel. Where criticism was seen as a political risk, it is now becoming part of the partys mainstream discourse.
National Jewish Democrats, like Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel both considered as possible presidential candidates in 2028 criticized Mamdani for dodging calls from Democratic colleagues and Jewish organizations to condemn the use of the globalize the intifada slogan.
Foxman cautioned against reading too much into Mamdanis win. Its not the Mamdani effect per se as a political force, he said. He has not yet been tested beyond the primary. But the events in Gaza help his narrative.
Sara Forman, the executive director of the New York Solidarity Network, said the pro-Israel community supports criticism of Israels government as part of a healthy democracy. She said she sees no indication of a change in the partys pro-Israel stance. The majority of the elected officials who are speaking out now are really doing so because they want to see an end to the war, and they want to see a return of the hostages, Forman said. Antifar 07/23/25 9:28:17 PM #1 | https://www.npr.org/2025/07/23/nx-s1-5476771/trump-artificial-intelligence-woke-eo President Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order requiring artificial intelligence companies that do business with the federal government to strip AI models of "ideological agendas."
Speaking at an AI summit in Washington, Trump said: "The American people do not want woke Marxist lunacy in the AI models."
The order bans federal agencies from contracting with tech companies that operate AI chatbots displaying partisan bias, which the action defines as diversity, equity and inclusion, critical race theory, "transgenderism" forces the order says pose "an existential threat to reliable AI."
"From now on, the U.S. government will deal only with AI that pursues truth, fairness and strict impartiality," Trump said.
The White House is also planning to revise Biden-era federal guidelines for AI safety to remove references to diversity, equity and inclusion, climate change and misinformation, according to the Trump administration's AI action plan released on Wednesday.
These are the latest instances of the Trump administration turning the screws on DEI initiatives and railing against popular AI chatbots. Trump supporters have increasingly criticized the technology, saying safety guardrails end up censoring conservative views.
"The AI industry is deeply concerned about this situation," said Neil Sahota, a technologist who advises the United Nations on artificial intelligence issues. "They're already in a global arms race with AI, and now they're being asked to put some very nebulous measures in place to undo protections because they might be seen as woke," he said. "It's freaking tech companies out."
One possible way AI companies could respond, according to Sahota, is to unveil "anti-woke" versions of their chatbots with fewer safeguards in order to land the lucrative business of the federal government.
"If you're a tech company with a lot of government contracts, this order is a sticky wicket," Sahota said.
While some studies have shown that popular chatbots can at times deliver left-of-center responses to certain policy questions, experts say it can often come down to how a question is framed, or what part of the internet the system is summarizing.
AI scholars say there is no proof that any major chatbot has been intentionally designed to generate liberal answers and censor conservative views.
"Often what is happening with these criticisms is that a chatbot doesn't align with someone's respective viewpoint, so they want to place the blame on the model," said Chinasa Okolo, a fellow at the Center for Technology Innovation at the Brookings Institution, a think tank in Washington, DC. If you rely on this stuff to do anything for you, you are signing up to be fed bullshit. --- Please don't be weird in my topics |
Topic | Trump fan planted IEDs in Manhattan before being arrested in June |
Antifar 07/23/25 12:38:28 PM #1 | https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/07/23/ex-con-indicted-for-placing-bombs-on-soho-rooftops-williamsburg-bridge-feds/?share=ybsegsgtiniaorsi0igf An ex-con has been indicted on federal charges for building at least seven bombs that he placed on the rooftops of several SoHo buildings and on subway tracks spanning the Williamsburg Bridge all while boasting on social media he was going to go out to play like no tomorrow, officials said Wednesday.
Michael Gann, 55, ordered the chemicals for the explosives, created the bombs with tubing and shotgun shells, and then stored five of the seven bombs on the roofs of apartment buildings in the swanky Manhattan neighborhood before he was arrested June 5 with an improvised explosive device in his backpack, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District said.
Gann is also accused of dropping an explosive onto the train tracks to the Williamsburg Bridge before he was apprehended.
Authorities had been tipped off by someone Gann shared his plans to make the bombs, officials said. Hes been in federal custody since his arrest on charges of unlawfully manufacturing a destructive device as investigators continued to build the case against him.
After his arrest, the feds learned that he posted a bizarre cryptic message on Instagram reading Who wants to go out to play like no tomorrow?
Back in March, he posted another strange message on X tagging President Trump which read, Im thinking just now here in NYC that its too bad that the wall wasnt built before the National Guard would have to come here for the Protests and Riotation or would you drop a bomb on this place while and because they seem to be coming and going? according to a federal indictment filed against him this week. ... Federal prosecutors say Gann used AI to create his explosives [Antifar's note: really need more details on what "using AI" entails here] and did multiple Google searches about purchasing firearms, how to make a gun with a 3D printer as well as searches with the keywords clorine bomb, how to make flash powder from household items, and pyro supplies.
In May, he ultimately placed an order for two pounds of potassium perchlorate, 200 cardboard tubes and over 50 feet of fuses. He had also ordered aluminum powder which, when mixed with potassium perchlorate could create an explosive mixture once ignited, federal officials said.
He put 30 grams of the explosive mixture into each bomb which is approximately 600 times the legal limit for consumer fireworks, according to the federal indictment against G ann.
When he was arrested in June 5, Gann claimed got cold feet and tossed the bombs into the East River. The bomb that landed on the tracks was meant to be dropped in the river as well, he said, but his throw fell short, according to a law enforcement official.
The official described Gann as emotionally disturbed. Court documents, however, described Gann a day before his arrest mixing explosives in the presence of a military veteran, one of two witnesses in the case.
What kind of veteran are you? Gann is quoted as saying. You see a problem in the neighborhood and you do nothing about it?
Gann then pointed to a nearby Jewish school, the documents say.
Law enforcement officials say that Gann repeatedly said hateful things about Jews and other protected groups although no plans to bomb Jewish institutions or harm Jews have been uncovered.
When arrested, Gann was carrying a shoulder bag he said he was going to drop off with the FDNY, according to court papers. He also urged the agents not to light a match near the bag because there could be a big fireball. --- Please don't be weird in my topics |

Topic | Mr. AI Sam Altman says his product may lead to a fraud crisis |
Antifar 07/22/25 7:17:35 PM #1 | https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/22/tech/openai-sam-altman-fraud-crisis? OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says the world may be on the precipice of a fraud crisis because of how artificial intelligence could enable bad actors to impersonate other people.
A thing that terrifies me is apparently there are still some financial institutions that will accept a voice print as authentication for you to move a lot of money or do something else you say a challenge phrase, and they just do it, Altman said. That is a crazy thing to still be doing AI has fully defeated most of the ways that people authenticate currently, other than passwords. ... Despite Altmans warnings about the technologys risks, OpenAI has urged the Trump administration to avoid regulation it says could hamper tech companies ability to compete with foreign AI innovations. Earlier this month, the US Senate voted to strike a controversial provision from Trumps agenda bill that would have prevented states from enforcing AI-related laws for 10 years.
Altman isnt alone in worrying that AI will supercharge fraud.
The FBI warned about these AI voice and video cloning scams last year. Multiple parents have reported that AI voice technology was used in attempts to trick them out of money by convincing them that their children were in trouble. And earlier this month, US officials warned that someone using AI to impersonate Secretary of State Marco Rubios voice had contacted foreign ministers, a US governor and a member of Congress.
I am very nervous that we have an impending, significant, impending fraud crisis, Altman said.
Right now, its a voice call; soon its going be a video or FaceTime thats indistinguishable from reality, Altman said. He warned that while his company isnt building such impersonation tools, its a challenge the world will soon need to confront as AI continues to evolve. Altman is backing a tool called The Orb, built by Tools for Humanity, that says it will offer proof of human in a world where AI makes it harder to distinguish what, and who, is real online. Speaking of fraud crises his company needs another $40 billion https://winbuzzer.com/2025/07/22/openai-pivots-to-urgent-fundraising-as-500b-stargate-project-with-softbank-stumbles-xcxwbn/ --- Please don't be weird in my topics |
