We had issues in the 90s with racists and I guess most got resolved so we found new issues in the early 2000s and they mostly got resolved and so on so now we have the luxury to get mad about everything people say or said once online and I guess once that's all resolved we will move on again to some new criteria. Kind of how all this works I suppose.

I think it shouldn't be hard to see why nobody should care though because the criteria for what makes a racist keeps getting easier and easier to meet.

I'm more annoyed with Rowling for changing all her characters and story elements after the series has been complete...and for that godawful Fantastic Beasts sequel. Legit this is an issue that matters 10000X more to me.

The only way to stop it is to get rid of all the people taking it seriously, which we cant just get rid of people.

Probably was a typo but it's actually accurate. You could get rid of everyone taking it seriously and it would be effectively gone as far as the public reaction to it goes...the same as getting rid of it really.

You could also get rid of the people not taking it seriously... It would go away eventually but probably take longer. Measures taken would have to keep being revamped as they wouldn't work for most of the first few attempts. Media would have to stop talking about it after a couple of years had passed.

First option is just faster.

I guess they could also have told everyone Loki is in the movie and gets revealed to be disguised as Odin, Odin dies, Thors super powered sister shows up, Mjolinir gets crushed,...maybe just 15-20 other things beyond that and it would have generated interest so more people would show up for ticket sales.

I mean...since that's more important than any surprises with the current generation, why stop at Hulks reveal?

...I guess it was just simply more important for internet journalists and youtubers and literally everyone to post the faces of Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe and Jamie Foxx on pretty much every video thumbnail and and article that exists anywhere ASAP then it was for even someone like me who's just trying to use the internet normally to be allowed a modicum of surprise when watching the movie itself.

Sony has just sequentially numbered the PlayStation since the beginning. Nothing fancy or overly complicated and they've been winning the console war.

So all that to say, being overly complicated with the console names has no apparent benefit. Until this thread...I was legit still not even sure if xbox has a new console yet or if they are still just releasing upgrades to some old one.

You really do not like those?

I'll assume your not really asking because of the office part... Since the reason for work from home being better in every way are almost self explanatory.

But as for the others...

Theaters- over priced in terms of everything, crowded and often louder than they should be. Sitting next to strangers and dealing with thier smells and sounds, not being able to go to the bathroom when needed.

The arguments you even see for them are actually kind of similar to the arguments in favor of offices... Which in itself can tell you they aren't as good as the covid alternative of VOD. "Theater experience" and "nothing will ever beat it" without tangible and/or quantifiable reasoning afterwards are just another way of saying "the new way is probably better but I can't wrap my head around it because it's new and so I'll just stick with the old way"

Amusement parks... I totally get that mileage varies here. But every time I've gone to one all it ever entails is standing in lines and waiting, waiting waiting... With brief moments of slight fun by being jostled about on the coaster/slide ect. The music is too loud at most parks as well and the crowds are WORSE than theaters. There's nothing enjoyable for me trying to wade through seas of people to stand in endless lines full of people to hear ear drum splitting pop music over the speakers the whole time. But again, I realize some people enjoy these things. Not going to say they are wrong, just going to say I'm not going to cry if covid puts an end to these things.

Grocery and all brick and mortar stores can go away as well for that matter. More lines, more crowds... And all just unnecessary when online ordering or digital goods is a thing.

When its over life will get bad again.

Because some people still want thier dumb offices, amusment parks and theaters back. Apparently they just can't wrap their heads around the idea that the old normal wasn't really that great to begin with and just learn to enjoy things as they are now.

Until they can at least accept and embrace some of the changes permanently, and learn to adopt them as part of society with or without covid, I'm still actually kind of rooting for covid, even though yeah the deaths are unfortunate. Apparently, and unfortunately, it takes a freaking epic pandemic to get anyone to change their ways. But since change wouldn't happen without it I guess I have no choice but to root for the "bad guy" in this situation.

I would have been surprised if it WASN'T bad. Netflix as a rule is 85-90% misses with occasional gems. The shows that they bring based of existing properties though (Death Note, Witcher, and Cowboy Bebop) are almost never in the "gems" category.

Netflix doesn't care though, probably never even considered whether it was important or not that all these shows they pop out are actually good, just that they draw people in.

I don't go out in public. Every single thing I like I can do at home and better than doing it in person. Working from home, ordering goods and groceries ect is better online than wandering around some crowded store and stranding in line.

I just don't have to get out for any reason and life is great. Yet people still seem to be screeching at me about vaccines and helping bring normal back or whatever, which apparently I'm supposed to want?

Most of the moderations i get that I truly believe are unfair (which are actually most of my moderations) wind up getting overturned, to the point I've lost count after about a dozen. One that was upheld was in a topic about somebody getting killed doing something stupid (I don't remember the details). The mod basically said we're not allowed to speak negatively about someone's death in any way. If that's the case then we're pretty much not allowed to talk about things like the Darwin Awards at all.

What does overturning them even do besides waste everyone's time?

I always let them just go, because it's not important enough for all that. Getting randomly mudded is something I see as a mechanic of this site and just how things normally function.

There's hot dog chili, which is still very viable and can even still be made to be fantastic without beans.

And there's regular chili, with a bunch of stuff in it that really should include beans.

The food community or whoever decides these things really should have taken more efforts to distinguish the two with different names... But it is what it is.

Imo, putting too much stuff in hot dog chili, basically making it regular chili on a bun/weiner is distracting for the rest of the hot dog. So I'm fully on board with no beans in hot dog chili.

But no beans in CHILI chili... Yeah that's kind of dumb.

It's going to vary from workplace to workplace, but I expect remote work to stick around even after Covid's no longer a concern. A lot of places have resisted the idea because of the widespread belief that it would impair productivity, but now that we've been forced to conduct an actual large-scale experiment on the matter, that doesn't seem to be the case at all, and many places are actually reaping considerable benefits (including being able to pay employees less because they can live in cheaper areas instead of needing to be near the office). Your workplace may decide to go back to in-person work, but if you want to work remotely, I'm sure you'll be able to find somewhere that is okay with that.

Anyone who thinks this should go ahead and try to hook themselves up with a remote job... or at the very least entertain the idea and try

The resistance most places have translates pretty damn well over to nobody else wanting to just let someone go remote. Most places still believe the old system should come back and are fighting for it..so hiring people they have promised to let WFH indefinitely they still see as a bad thing.

I've been trying to go full remote somewhere for months now in fear this all was ending and have had no luck. And I just work in a tech/data entry field where I don't even NEED to be around people.

The idea that there's going to be widespread WFH stuff everywhere is maybe something you'll hear in the news or read about on certain sites...but the reality is nothing like that. Jobs are apparently just as if not more resistant to the new normal than the general population. They still believe eventually dragging us all to offices for no reason is better.

And you can tell me I'm assuming/maybe my job will let me/they'll probably let those who want to stay home etc etc etc all you want. Reality never turns out that way. They open that stuff back up, and it won't be much later the management who wanted it all opened again sees the employees who are there in person as more desirable, and everyone's back to the same crappy commute and office experience we all had before...or looking for something else (which again won't work out either)

Ultimately, getting rid of the old normal is the more certain way, so these stubborn companies are FORCED to give it all up. Otherwise, yeah...office work will come back.

This, on the other hand, is just silly. It takes like an hour to go get a vaccine. It's not a significant effort in the slightest; stop being lazy.

I thought THEY wanted ME to get the vaccine, not the other way around. I guess it'd be the same to say the people giving the vaccine could "stop being lazy" and come over here.

Yeah, as soon as they agree to let me stay working remotely indefinitely regardless of vaccination then I don't mind getting the vaccine if someone wants to come to my door with it.

What I never wanted was to get vaccinated and that be their pathetic excuse to drag me back into the office around other people I didn't want to be around.

I also didn't want theaters to come back like before and miss out on movies direct to streaming, or for any other good things covid brought the world to go away.

Basically, stop making it about returning our way of life to a previous normal that was crap anyway. If the vaccine can just be a vaccine and "normalcy" isn't the dumb end goal that we are all supposed to apparently want...then I'd get more behind it, or at the very least tolerate it.

About to ask for the permanent remote set up w/ my job before this nonsense starts. If they say yes, I don't mind someone coming to my door and doing whatever as long as it's relatively safe for me and if that placates some of their ridiculous hysteria.

I will miss direct to streaming movies, but whatever at this point...apparently there is just some stuff the masses refuse to give up on.
