And almost nobody would stay in a church if they don't believe in it, at least if they live in a community where they won't get ostracized for leaving. The Old Testament is more about faith and devotion to God... in this manner, the Bible is used as a tool to help put our lives in context and approach our personal experiences, relationships with each other, and relationship with God from a different perspective. I understand that there are Christians in the US who take the Bible literally and as personal law, but there are plenty of Christians who don't. It's astounding to me that someone would actually think that you can't be a Christian unless you believe the Bible to a T. Reading and interpretation of the bible is different than what it used to be. Just as Christianity has changed throughout the years, parts of the bible are read or interpreted differently... due to the present nature of the world and civilization. If you believe the bible is the product of man interpreting God, then you can believe that it has faults, just as humans do. Regardless of what you believe, you can see it (and the quran etc) as a code of laws, that at one time was probably rather important to society.
