I mean, tbf, needing to put a schism in the Avengers, there's not much better you can do than Cap's boyhood friend who stood by him through everything vs Tony's parents. Well, sub Pepper or Happy in for Tony's parents, sure.

A lot of the pieces for getting there were a bit of a mess, though. Zemo was pointless, really.

Imagine the Avengers being put in regulation, and the inciting event in the first arc be like, a UN military operation calling on them. Iron Man has built weapons all of his life, wants to keep his head down, but Cap is more of a freedom guy. Find out that they are opposed to Bucky, and it's maybe more of an imperialistic thing, idk.

Civil War was an enjoyable movie, but it's certainly not a great one. It's convoluted, and basically a plot device to weaken the Avengers going into Infinity War. I don't blame anyone for enjoying it a lot, but on rewatch, it became incredibly clear how shallow of a film it really is.

While this is true, I think it's easy enough to think that with Thor, they just don't fight at all. Thor is an alien with Godlike powers, and if Tony and Cap started to fight about things, you bet your ass Thor is smacking them both around and forcing them to talk it out.

Hulk I think is team Tony and then team Tony wins, but Thor just prevents all the conflict by reminding them that "hey there's this guy named Thanos and Infinity Stones and stop being assholes" more than he's just tough.

Honestly, I'm blown away first place is that far ahead of the tied number 2's.

I would guess top three are IW, Winter Soldier, and Ragnarok. I suppose Endgame could sneak in as well.

Here's fully extrapolated. Haven't figured out if Lethal Lava or Big Boo's Haunt fits yet. Didn't look at Bowser stuff. Perhaps most compelling is that Cool Cool Mountain is the most identical.

I think, given the way the theme is postulated in the intro, that even if it wasn't intended, it was recognized at some point.

I've been playing around a bit with some of the music from SM64, and this theme shows up in a LOT of different music, but Shifting Sand Land's melody starts out the same as Luke and Leia's. (I want to say Bernstein has the same melody in Candide).

It is entirely possible that he didn't intend to use DK's theme as the main theme for SM64.
It is entirely possible he started writing and figured out what he was doing later.

It is much much more likely it was intentional.

It's why I'm confused, because everything you've said lends support to the thesis that, yes, the Super Mario 64 soundtrack is based on a theme from a prior game.

Para, that makes literally no sense. If he intended to base the soundtrack off of a single theme, then OF COURSE that theme will be prevalent throughout it all. By using a familiar theme but disguising it, you acquire a subconscious interest from the listener because it's familiar, but it not being flat-out obvious makes the music still fresh.

The problem is you're not looking at this from a composer's point of view.

It's as easy as saying "Okay, I need to write music for a game. They asked to make it sound new while still Mario. So let me grab a simple motif... ALL the way from the beginning of Mario's history, and just use that as the base for the soundtrack for this game."

Just consider it a Theme and Variations.

Easter Egg is absolutely a terrible term for it.

It's a musical theme used as a basic to write more music. That's all.

I also reject that they didn't intend people to notice it - I noticed it as a child. It's not OBVIOUS, but it isn't impossible to find, and the fact that they're trying to sell it as "discovered" is stupid. I don't think, if thought about, it was meant to be unmistakable, but it wasn't intentionally hidden either.

To conclude, it's intentional, it's not hidden, it's just... composition. Just standard compositional practice.

Same notes, same rhythm, the intro to the game paying homage to the first appearance of the character for the first 3D appearance, we're talking a 98% chance that this is an intentional choice.

Especially considering this is Koji Kondo, a guy who uses motifs more than John Williams, there's really no reason to believe this isn't an intentional decision.

I *feel* like it should be Ant Man for the next to drop. Though I suppose it's possible it is Iron Man 3 because a lot of people hate it, but I could see someone enjoying that Pepper Potts just straight up murders a guy in it.

Yeah, all we're talking are a few notes of a motif.

This is also Koji Kondo we're talking about. Examine his entire body of work - the chances this wasn't deliberate are very low.

I won't say I KNOW he did it on purpose, but as a composer, there's a 100% chance he would have at least noticed after he wrote it.

I'm a pretty easy person to please. IM2 and AoU are the MCU films that are actively bad. I think all of the others range from uninteresting to great, but I wouldn't say they're necessarily bad movies. IM2 and AoU just have bad writing, bad plots, bad use of characters, and as said before, the best part of AoU was when Thor realized the movie was a waste of his time and he left.

Hmm Mantis could possibly be my favorite. The MCU doesnt really have a ton of female characters I care too much about though sadly. Most are just kinda there for the most part to me.
