Avatar definitely made a cultural impact. Everybody went to see it, everywhere on the internet people were talking about it, it was an absolute sensation.

What's striking about Avatar's cultural impact is that it was so short lived. As soon as it was out of the movie theaters everyone just stopped talking about it. People who had been going apeshit six months ago seemed to have forgotten about it.

I always say the biggest sign of its lack of lasting cultural impact is memes. Can you remember ever seeing a single Avatar meme? I can't.

This is exactly why people say Avatar had no cultural impact. It had the biggest movie budget of all time between marketing and actual production so of course a ton of people went to see it from the marketing hype and yet it didn't make a mark.

You're focusing on the "what", the end result of people talking about Avatar, when it's the "how", the process of them spending exorbitant amounts of money to get in people's radar only fall flat on its face in missing expectations and have zero influence, that people speak of when they say it has no cultural impact.

Its the national news' job to hype, first and foremost; hell, I watched either the CBS or NBC Nightly News once during the ramp-up to Irma, and it had some jackass meteorologist running from one side of the weather screen to the other, ranting about how Irma was going to 'rip like a buzzsaw' up the entire Florida West Coast. Nobody who's being threatened by a hurricane needs to deal with that extra amount of stress.

Irma obliterated my island and other islands in its path including Puerto Rico. The reactions from the meteorologist there is warranted. It was a category 5 hurricane that had smashed record level wind speeds when it hit us.

Given how Florida is flat, I'd be very concerned about flooding as well, even if it's just a Category 1 hurricane.

B12 is ludicrously easy to supplement, if you eat a meatless diet and you don't do this that is not a function of vegetarianism being wrong, it is that you did it wrong.

Any diet that doesn't provide the necessary nutrients to live a healthy life and doesn't provide any in excess to the point where it would be a detriment (to rephrase my awkward wording; not too little and not too much) says to me that the diet is inherently broken. You shouldn't need supplements to ensure your body meets the healthy living criteria if you're eating right. Not ragging on vegetarianism since coolguyjimmy brought up fortified food being among vegetarianism's only options. Just ragging on that logic of dismissing the issue with supplements.

I'll also make the distinction that this is different from something like trying to live a body builder lifestyle where you're putting on more muscle than needed for everyday life and so you'd be on a high protein diet which would require supplements to reach certain muscle mass goals.

But for a more unbiased reason, BN3 was first released as a single title in Japan, and then BN3 Black was released with exclusive chips and an extra boss along with bug fixes. When BN3 was localized to the US, they brought both version as White and Blue but without bringing to white the version exclusive boss.

Battle Network 3 Blue is hands down one of the greatest games ever created. After that, BN6's gameplay is probably the best. 2 is highly regarded, 5 is solid (though liberation missions which is somewhat more SRPG like are controversial), 1 is just rough as they were trying to work out the gameplay and so there are a lot of ideas that didn't really work. 4 damn nearly killed all the goodwill BN3 built up and nearly crashed the series. It was awful.

I was in my last year of college, but I didn't have direction in my life and so was purely at the whims of whatever came in my direction with zero motivation to really commit to anything. Now, I'm still in the midst of transitioning to a career I want to commit my life to. So technically, I would be better off 10 years ago, given the opportunities I had due to my location, but I say I'm better off now given how I have the mindset that would have capitalized off those opportunities and know what I want in life. It does help that I'm also technically considerably wealthier than I was 10 years ago, though had I played my cards right 10 years ago, I could easily match my wealth now far earlier.

We get a lot of FE characters in Smash because initially it was because Samurai is the world's biggest FE fanboy (he hosted an Iwata's Ask for them, and even MCed FE's 25th anniversary concert) who'll use Smash Bros as a platform to support the series. From Corrin's introduction on in Smash 4's DLC, Nintendo's exploiting the precedent he set to pressure him to add more FE characters to the roster. Immediately following Byleth's reveal, he even made sure to release a disclaimer that on his weekly Famitsu column that it wasn't his fault Byleth got in, blame Nintendo.

Since I see other people talking about the main series, I'll mention that I enjoy the mobile game, Fire Emblem Heroes, a lot because the maps are smaller and faster, and more importantly, the unit customization and strategy diversity blow the main series out of the water. Powercreep is still a problem that FEH has been battling over the 5+ years of its lifetime, but they've done quite a bit to give opportunities for a lot of units who are 3+ years old to still be usable. A couple quick videos over the years. One is a PvE map. Other is a mode where you design maps for others to play against. I messed up on some calculations which ended in me taking a unit loss. Last one is a real time PvP mode (not my video)... that most people don't play because you need the latest and greatest skills/weapons/units to compete. Most people play for fun, and not for competition. You probably don't want to compete given the game runs on a predatory gacha monetization model. But it is super fun to see the kind of strategies people whip up. I admit, these videos aren't too good without commentary to explain the effects of what goes on. But bear with me. You may also want to play at x2 speed at times since I had to do calculations at times.

The only concern I have with the transition to PoS is if ETH 2.0 would be more susceptible to governmental pressure to censor transactions than if it were running a PoW consensus algorithm.

If I recall Greg is currently suffering from Long Covid. Among the problems you could also be inflicted with brain fog which drags your IQ at least one standard deviation. I've had people ping me to give a comment on X national event, and when I gave my response, I get modded. I've had people mudsling and when people ask what the heck they're slandering me on, I give the definition and get modded. I've had people ask me for my take on controversial topics off from the main topic, and when I give them, I get modded.

It took a while but I've finally wised up and started ignoring people and starting pulling my punches to say the least but it's still irritating that CE only accepts one type of response for any topic. Go out of bounds and you risk getting modded as it'll be considered bigoted/racist/evil/whatever. Even worse there are posters who actively bait with these questions to set people up to get modded. And a number of CE posters don't believe that this actually happens even you point it out in that same topic when it occurs.

This is why it's utterly laughable to see this board attempt to do any kind of intellectual discourse. You'll get one side and the other side will be modded the oblivion. Even worse, you'll see posters actively try to understand and relate to the other side on sensitive topics regarding certain groups only to have their topic locked because the CE accepted side refuses to elaborate and contribute to a healthy discussion.

Not everybody has to be in a relationship. Being single your whole life is a perfectly fine thing to do. For some reason though this seems to only be acceptable for men to do it.

But certain thresholds have to be maintained to keep society thriving. We are teetering on a number of thresholds that drive society down to the ground. More and more males are exiting out of society. The male incel population hasn't stopped growing, and on the flipside, the MGTOW population is also growing and trying to convince guys marriage is a bad deal and stop bothering with women. On the women's side, women are overwhelmed with options and can't seem to pick and stick with a single guy (as divorces are mostly initiated by women) and we're ending up with ironic situation that women who have more abundance of options than ever are ending up single and with their dating chances evaporating.

Society has problems and they must be addressed or some other country will be able to take over and enforce their ideals upon us.

And the reason why you're told this is because there are literally not enough guys that meet women's standards to go around. So it's either you lower your standards or you run a real risk of not marrying at all. You in particular have it good in getting what you want as you're already married to someone who meets your criteria. Most women DO NOT get what they want as evident by the drastically rising rates of single women in their late 30's and 40's.

That explains the flimsy defense holding up. If it were the same night when he was raped by deception, he would have been tried for a crime of passion but I'd imagine he'd still have a shot of acquittal. But a whole month later, that's just execution, I don't see how he wouldn't be convicted. If I were robbed and I confronted the culprit 1 month later and got into an altercation with his death, the odds aren't in my favor to walk scott free. There's no way the jury wasn't making a decision with that in mind regardless of it whether it was submitted to court as evidence or not.

The US dollar is backed by:

Close enough, I was looking for two things, it being the world reserve currency (which is why it's universally accepted) and it being a petrodollar. But really, what enforces these two properties is the US military. It's part of the reason why we've been involved in a lot of conflict in the Middle East. Any country that dares threaten the US dollar world reserve currency status must be neutralized. This is part of why this Russian-Ukraine conflict is critical for the Ukraine to win.

I bring this up because to understand the bitcoin and to understand the rest of the blockchain industry, specifically the value of smart contracts (which dwarfs the impact the bitcoin will have on the world), you have to understand the problems they're solving. If you don't understand the problem, you'll just think they're sloppy and chaotic solutions looking for a solution to solve and overall just a bunch of scams. With the Bitcoin, you have to understand the history of the US dollar and how much damage it has caused in this world and why so there are countries are desperate for a financial system that isn't dominated by the US.

The bitcoin network offers a fair solution that allows anyone to conduct a transaction to anyone regardless of where they live and more importantly the protocol in practice is incapable of confiscating the BTC in your wallet nor can they freeze your transactions (this is why the network consumes so much energy; to prevent the latter action from being possible). Contrast this to Russian citizens who are barred from global financial system because of their government's actions against another country.

Mind you, I own like $500 worth of BTC, but I bring this up as an example to show what problems are being solved in this field irrespective of my own personal biases.
