Heh, Dumpster, I came into this topic to proudly say I'm currently traveling to the states for an interview. It took me 4 years to get back to this chance of an engineering job in the states, where I worked my way through a number of odd jobs, from dishwashing and cooking to chip manufacturing, to math tutoring, to getting an inventory collector position with the government to now interviewing for a software development position.

I know exactly how you feel about job hunting. I gave up from a long time ago on applying for things online. I can't win. There's too much competition and I'm not a professional person. I can't survive in the corporate world. So I play to my strengths and try to get as personal as possible. But that barely worked, only once when I hounded the chip design company to high hell, calling them and going up to the company place directly to give them my resume. Didn't last more than a couple months there anyways. After that, it was pure luck. My last few job acquisitions boiled down to who I knew. And this interview coming up is because of a friend of mine and I proved to him I could do the job because incidentally, I've done that kind of work at an internship before.

I wish I could share some of the luck I have with you man. All I can say is that you can't do it alone, find people to talk to and to work with. Even if it's free. I did this for a year at a lab, and truth be told, it did give me opportunities, just not ones I was willing to take on.

As someone who went through Irma/Maria and got food stamps (DSNAP cards) from it, trust me when I say you don't want this. I was lucky enough to have my job, and house throughout the storms and was able to buy my own food no problem. But for the people who had to live off of MREs and other canned and preserved meals, they had it rough because of how salty the food was. So people who previously had medical problems like diabetes under control were much worse off after eating that food. I can't trust the government to deliver large quantities of food of good quality on a routine basis.

With food stamps, you can buy from your own super market at your own convenience with the added bonus of the "money" supporting the super markets in the community. This proposed plan sounds like a ploy for someone else to make money off.

Potential is the keyword. Many a times they barely make it. I personally never was a server, was always at the cash register, but I see how little money they actually make, even when they are the nicest and fastest and most social they can be. Then they can get lucky with nice tippers, but relying on luck to survive isn't really a great life.

And I've worked in a kitchen of a restaurant that was always hustling and bustling, making $9.35 an hour. 5 days a week, where I'm coming home drenched in sweat and the scent of food. I do not feel bad for them at all. The servers at my restaurant were definitely making money, helps that they were hot as hell.

I will admit, partially my distaste of tipping comes from not feeling appreciated on the job. A lot of times, when people tip, it's because the food and service as a whole was enjoyable. Given the work on the backend that goes into the dish, I'd like a little thanks as well. A couple of the servers ruined this for me, by acting like they run the kitchen when even though they've been there a decade, they don't know what all goes on in the kitchen.

Some restaurants split the tip with the kitchen. I've been unlucky enough to work at restaurants that don't split the tip. But for one of the occasions where we had a large take out order, a bartender came back to tip the kitchen. That was sweet of him.

But why though? I mean the cooks actually get paid a proper amount of money, the servers almost always never do, and have to make it up with tips.

Servers' earning potential with tips are astronomically higher than cooks. Do not feel sorry for them.

It's alright. The heroine basically carries the show right now as she's entertaining and slick in how she rolls. The rest of the cast are, as she puts it, a bunch of weaklings. The show has gone on predictably to hammer in certain mechanics, how mechs need to be piloted by a male and female pair and compatibility is the most important asset; the hero and heroine can't work with anyone else. And the heroine is leagues above the other kids in terms of abilities and in appeal. In fact it's so bad that whenever she's on screen, you can see the other girls (especially the other main one's) self esteem deteriorate by her sheer alpha presence alone. It's great!

So yeah, it's worth watching. If you catch up now, next week is a really big turning point for the storyline as this past episode did a fantastic job setting the tension for.

If the studies were set out to rectify the problem, then I'd say patience. There was a poster on here who was a Grad assistant and saw the same discrepancy in a survey he did among the classes he taught. And it boiled down to study habits and access to study groups. Once the information of what top students did to achieve their grades flowed to the other classmates, the scores started to even out.

In this case, the kid who did this science project is a known racist among his ranks.

The Switch Axe is off the chain yo. But it is a bit jarring to play if you're completely new to Monhun. Then again it used to be twice as slow if you tried it out in any of the earlier games.

But the LS is a good choice to start off with. It has a couple new moves in World that practically reinvent it, the counter and the helm splitter (the jump attack). Pull off the spirit combo to get to the Red bar, sacrifice your red spirit bar for the helm splitter, and repeat the cycle till it dies. And the counter, if pulled off, lets you shortcut to the spirit finisher. Check this video off from the beta and try to work towards copying it.

there is definitely truth to what he is saying about the basis for why lipstick exists, and why some people might find it sexually attractive, but you also have to take into account that people have been wearing lipstick (and other cosmetics) for thousands of years, and as time goes on, tastes and meanings change. as i said before, lots of men don't even find lipstick attractive on a woman and half the colors you'd see in a store aren't even red.

It's fine if lots of men don't find lipstick attractive, but a lot more men, i.e. the majority, find thick lips attractive, especially in this culture and age. That's why women are willing throw down cash on botox injections. For those who aren't going to do that, there's lipstick to help make your lips thicker. And red does in fact make you look more sexually attractive. This has been researched.

https://www.rochester.edu/news/show.php?id=3268

Romulox28 posted...
i feel like an equivalent argument to the one JP made about lipstick would be saying that men who wear jeans to their office job subconsciously want to be blue collar workers, because jeans were originally created for coal miners. obviously the premise is true but tastes and concepts change over time, so it's a tough statement to back up.

Now you're completely missing the JP's point in why he's bringing up lipstick. Let me give you an equivalent argument. You leave apple syrup out in the open in your kitchen because you love the smell but it attracts ants. You complain about the hoard of ants being attracted to the open syrup but you refuse to stop leaving the syrup out. That's where the contradiction comes in so you have to give up one or the other or come up with a creative way to have your cake and eat it too.

Having worked in various restaurants, one of the most common instances of employees being off-task are a result of co-workers playing grab ass with each other. And actually, playing grab ass with your co-workers is a lot of fun. That's why I think men and women should continue working together...so that I can keep having sex with my co-workers. Some things are more important than productivity.

If I were running a restaurant and was fixated on profits, I can't imagine hiring only male servers. Women are going to get much bigger tips cause they can woo far easier. And I did have a coworker who used to "play sex" with my senior chef. It was hilarious.

however my problem with JP is that he gets way too into the evolutionary angle of s*** (i.e. "women paint their lips red because it simulates flush lips during sexual arousal"), which i feel makes him pretty detached from reality. in this case, it is that the action of putting on lipstick has evolved past being a primal practice to having a different meaning altogether, and honestly for a lot of men, lipstick isn't even sexually appealing, so it's hard to say that a woman putting on lipstick is subconsciously making herself more sexually presentable. I like JP but i think he is up his own ass way too much, he takes arguments like this into the real world that dont really have any place there

Lipstick makes your lips look thicker, lusher, gives it that pump. Haven't you heard of the term, dsl (I'm not typing that out, much less capitalizing it)? That has never been used to describe thin lips. And red has been researched and documented to be more sexually provocative. The stereotype of a lead female vocalist of a jazz band wearing a deep red dress exists for a reason. Petersen isn't out of bounds here.

For starters the premise isn't even true. Looking good and wearing make up does not come from a goal to attract mates anymore.

It doesn't matter what the intentions of the girl is. When you look attractive, you attract attention. That's the point of being attractive in the first place. If you take actions to look more attractive in a provocative manner, you'll attractive more interest in that manner as well.

UnfairRepresent posted...
And for two, even if we pretend the premise is true, that's still an awful point to use as an example for men and women not working together. It's the same logic as the Islamic "Women need to cover themselves or else men will rape them!" stupidity.

I never stated my opinion on this, let's not jump arguments.

This plus a lot of work places encourage women to dress up in that way, so putting the blame on them in order to call them hypocrites is also dumb

This is an issue, I will agree. But that doesn't negate the fact that it's contradictory to want to take precautions to not attract that kind of attention to yourself while putting on pumps and lush red lipstick on. And I'll emphasize that it's not all make up that increases your sexual attractiveness, which is why I'm repeating the specific examples Petersen is used.

People want to look their best because

By the same token of logic men being clean and combing their hair has no place in the workplace.

His point is that it's hypocritcal to put on make up (specifically red lip stick and blush for increased arousal) or wear high heels (that accentuate the booty) and then complain about sexual harassment because the point of those actions are to increase a girl's sexual attractiveness.

I actually fear for women now. What are they going to offer if a guy doesn't give a hoot about having a conversation with them?

You should mention which spoilers you're talking about, manga or anime, (in this case it's MANGA SPOILERS). But if that's a correct translation, that's pretty cool.

I really do wonder sometimes why we teach math backwards. Sure, sometimes memorizing a fromula is easier for kids than teaching them the calculus used to derive it, but stuff like that? It's a million times easier to remember the cross product formula knowing it's basicall just FOIL on a quaternion. Quaternions aren't even a complicated concept... well except for noncommutative multiplication.

What I dislike about how math is taught, is how we learn the tools before the problems when tools are created to solve problems that exist. It's more intuitive to learn the problem first and then steps we take to solve them.

Eigenvectors are an extension of that, where instead of saying "I want to know what points (vectors) are fixed by this transformation" you instead say "I want to know which vectors just stretch or contract, but don't change where they are pointing".

So say for some matrix M, [1,2] is an eigenvector with eigenvalue 2. That means when you apply your transformation M to the vector [1,2], it becomes [2,4]. It was the equivalent of just multiplying each coordinate by 2, so it's pointing in the same direction , just longer.

Eigenvectors/values can be nifty for a lot of thing, but the principle is quite simple. Keep in mind that "eigen" is German and means "own". An eigenvector of a transformation will be mapped onto its own line. Consider projection onto a plane. Any vector that is already in the plane will be projected on itself. So those are the eigenvectors of that transformation.
I think it's by far easiest to grasp this if you take some transformations in R or R that are easy to visualize and understand, then examine those eigenvectors. What are the eigenvectors of a rotation? What are the eigenvectors or a reflection? Etc.

These make total sense. Thank you.

So you understand the significance of fixed points, right?

Absolutely not. I have no clue what you're talking about. Please, edumacate me.

Honestly this is the reason why I bombed my QM courses way back when. It was just calculus and some linear algebra. But the thing is the homeworks were tedious, so I got fed up doing my homework every single week (I have better things to do than to solve integrals with a billion and 2 variables for pages upon pages, like other homework and sleep), so I gave up halfway through not realizing that the actual theory that makes the HW worth it comes at the very end of the problems. When exam time comes out, that's when I learned the subject. And deeply regretted not finishing my HW problems.

feel ya Sad Face. I knew how to calculate determinants no problem for years, but I didn't actually know that it just described how much an area is scaled after applying the matrix transformation until 4 months ago

None of my math teachers took the time to flat out state this

Really? Okay, that makes sense. I can see it now if you look at the Magnetic Force's equation, qv X B, (charge, velocity of a particle, Magnetic Field strength) and you can take the determinant to get the magnitude of the Force, or area of the 2 vectors.

I've used Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors extensively in my Quantum Mechanics courses, Electromagnetism courses, and in a Computer Animation course a while back. I still don't know what an Eigenvalue or Eigenvector is.

It's something to do with matrices.

And like, multiplying them. Somehow if you multiply an eigenvector by a matrix (or was it the other way around) you get... something.

Oh, I know how to solve for Eigenvectors. Computer Animation, you can find use them to find non trivial solutions to the number of collisions on a rigid bodies at a point and time. In E&M... it's been so long, I can't remember. But what Eigenvectors/values mean abstractly, I have no clue. And the context changes with each field it's applied to. At least with a derivative, you know it's a rate of change, how quickly something changes with respect to an element. I don't know how to summarize EVs like that.

Seeing the IG in MH4's reveal trailer was what got me into the series actually. It's simple and cool and slick. But it does get frustrating being in the air and getting stuck mounting while your juices wear out.

To be fair, you can choose not to do it.

The main reason people recommend the bow over the bowguns is the fact that you don't have to manage so much different ammunition or keep your reserves up. In terms of actually using the weapon, the bow is much more particular.

That is true. You only need to keep in the 4 coatings your Bow has access to as opposed to the 10-15 ammo types your bowgun can use. When you first try the Bowgun, its status screen will overwhelm you with info. But determining what bullets you should use is the first and only difficult part of the bowguns.

But range affecting damage made Mr never touch it.

Look at it this way, the critical distance you speak of is implemented to simulate real life. A shooting an arrow point blank won't be as powerful as an arrow that is several meters away because the arrow needs a bit of time to accelerate to its maximum speed. Conversely if you shoot a gun or arrow, they will slow down in speed due to wind resistance. And it helps that it prevents you from standing from across the field and sniping the monster from a distance. It's not a big issue to worry about, and World makes it 100x easier than the previous games by telling you when you're in critical distance.

What kind of animation is there for when you get hit? does the armor glow or flash and does the animation makes you look like you got hit?

You tend to get knocked a distance off your feet, and maybe roll upon impact on the ground front first.
