I dunno, both are important, but I think between the two, you need to finish the level quicker than not. It seems like even a change in the minute affects the score pretty negatively. Once you get up to x8 and x9 it's all pretty good. I think my 4.4 million score had x10, my 4.3 before that had x8 - but I finished about a minute quicker.

so i'm in the final area of Outland, but at the first teleporter I found I went back and combed every area looking for stuff I missed. Getting that treasure map after finding enough golden token things has been a big help. I've only got three tokens left to go, and they are all in the final level. I've apparently still got like fifty treasure pots to find, and most if not all must be in the final level as well. It's a rare game that I find fun enough to 100%.

speaking of 100%ing the game, where in the heck is the second teleporter for the forest? And in that one area of the Underworld where you need to have the jump pad ability to get to the top right where the heart-increaser is, did anyone else notice a platform in the map that is missing from the game, where the platform would let you get to an area at the very tip-top right corner of the map?

I just found that one, actually. It's a 'secret' level at the bottom of Jungle Highlands - you should have the skills to reach it at this point. No Mark of the Gods in there, but there are 14 Money Vases!

found it, thanks. two more marks of the gods, and eleven vases. one of the marks is in the area right before the final boss, though I haven't found it yet (that's not a solicitation for hints). I imagine the other is in one of the earlier areas in eternity, I didn't really look for them my first time through.

this eternity place is crazy, though. the difficult curve in this game is perfect, btw. The game's been a challenge the whole way through, save for the very first area. And now when I go through earlier levels I just cruise through like it's no problem.

Those are the two trophies of the three trophies I have left - Mark of the Gods and a million gold. Other one is co-op, haven't had a chance to do that yet.

And yeah, the difficulty is pretty much perfect. It eases you in at the start, and progressively throws more at you the closer you get to completing it. I like the enemy variety, too. Mixes it up a bit.

Outland has brilliant level design. the learning curve is just perfect with how it just layers elements on top of each other slowly. it's no Braid but it's on the next tier down.

yeah i still have to do co-op as well. i was gonna do it with a roommate but apparently there's no local co-op. I'm not a fan of games these days forgoing local multiplayer in favor of online. If I had to pick one, for any game, I'd pick local in a heartbeat.

it's a good choice with this game, trust me. you'll see why when you do online co-op. trying to stay on the same screen is not easy.

Just finished Outland. Good game - really nice style and slick controls. The bosses were grand in scale and for the most part really cool, but the game felt a bit too easy overall. Maybe this is because the polarity causes me to compare it to Ikaruga a bit too much. I'm sure adding the speed element will increase the challenge for the better, but I don't have the urge to hop right into arcade mode just yet. I will soon!

I certainly didn't think it was too easy. it's tougher than most metroidvanias, though it's questionable that it should even be compared to those. either way, it's not a pushover at all. bosses would routinely get me a d I probably died a couple times on each screen in Eternity.

I think it's pretty difficult to gauge difficulty in this day and age. With games like Super Meat Boy and VVVVVV, you die hundreds of times, but each death is essentially meaningless. The platforming requires a much greater level of precision, but there's not really any penalty. In Outland I haven't really died that much, but each death can take you back a good ways. And even though I haven't died a lot, I feel like I've spent a lot of the game near death, and it's really tense trying to make it just a bit further to the next checkpoint. They offer the hearts just when you need them most, so that when you're down to one or two health there's a good chance you can get back up to three or four. But past that you won't find much health, so you're rarely at a position where you're not worried about dieing.

Yeah, that's how it was for me. I could die a couple of times on bosses, rarely did otherwise, but I was at low health for a good portion of the game. I think I only had about five, maybe six, hearts at the end, too. It wasn't brutal, but I thought it had a solid difficulty level. I enjoy it more than I do the Super Meat Boys of the world.

i had 8 and got the last boss on the second try. just started jumping towards the heads, hitting three times, then quickly shifting to the right polarity so i didn't get hurt.

wouldn't mind a sequel or a couple dlc levels or something! i'll probably venture into arcade mode when i get back from my work trip next weekend.

The nice thing about the tokens / vases is that each level tells you how many there are and how many you've found, so it's not too bad looking for the last few. You don't have to scour the entire level, anyway.

Played a little Outland today, got to the city. How do you kill that giant enemy with a shield after the maze? Everything I try doesn't seem too work or he blocks it with that damn shield.

Also, started an evil karma run of inFamous and learned something that would have been really helpful to know the first time through, you can make temporary batteries that you can then drain to recharge or heal out of dumpsters and trash cans.
