I'm not sure what I wanted from today's Raw, but I guess that'll do. Something about it just kinda bugs me, though.

Maybe it's cause Cena should've been fired again and again wasn't off Raw for even one week.

Now if only Michael Cole would contract AIDS and die, I'd finally join the Miz bandwagon.

He's right though. I doubt the new belt will be made of chocolate.

Speaking of Vince delaying things, curiosity time! In kayfabe, how does the timeline of a show work out? Vince put off the Rey/Miz match because they were "running out of time", so that seems to confirm that they do indeed have a set amount of time they're supposed to adhere to every show. So when you put a last man standing match at the end of the show, how do you just magically know the two guys will only take fifteen minutes to take each other out instead of twenty five?

Obviously they're planning for the worst case rather than the best case.

Clearly if Vince knew Miz/Rey was only gonna go ten minutes he would've just had it now but since it's a title match IT COULD GO 60.

Obviously.

I think a bigger issue than that is how many shows start out with no planned main event, but miraculously one always seems to come together out of the opening segment.

One of these days someone should do a SD where it just doesn't happen and then they're left with 15 minutes to kill at the end.

Well I mean in general, it's just too convenient. Look at tonight - if Vince thought he actually WAS just going to call Cena out, say "You're fired" and leave, they would have had time for a Miz/Rey match since both guys are worn down. Lucky for him Cena had a speech to make and HHH was taking his job, or his show would have had some dead air to end it.

Christian starts the night in the ring, does a promo, then heads to the back. Teddy Long comes out and says "Wait a minute playa, could you call somebody out so I can make our main event tonight?"

i've never felt that each episode of raw is supposed to be a self-contained entity really

i think of it more like 24...a week passes technically but we're just picking up where we left off

the "main events" being made at the start of the show is just natural progression

i mean, if somebody truly wanted a rematch or vengeance do you think they would sit around for a week until monday at 9 pm?

The whole "fire the biggest star if he loses a match that's far from in the bag, and get involved to try to screw it up" thing is kind of a big deal.

Are people really still missing the point of the "If Cena loses, he's fired" stip?

Think of the WWE as Coca-Cola. Cena comes in and tells Vince they should change the recipe and try marketing New Coke. Vince says OK but it's Cena putting his neck on the line, not him. If New Coke fails and sullies Coca-Cola's image, Cena is the scapegoat and it's his head on the chopping block.

Yeah but Cena has a track record of success for the company. If New Coke guy had been constantly coming up with winning formulas for years and then suddenly New Coke bombs hard, firing him is bad for the company. Yes someone needs to be held accountable, but he could just march right over to Pepsi and start making them money.

It's more like the Yankees making it to the World Series and then telling Sabathia that he has to win every start or he's FIRED.

It reflects poorly on Vince's decision making skills when it comes to company matters. Hence he gets ousted.

I've put the key word in bold. Vince tried to pin the blame on Cena, but the board of directors wouldn't be fond of losing their biggest star *and* the WWE title in the same night when the former was entirely avoidable, and they would have reason to call Vince on his attempts to avoid responsibility. Because in the end, Vince is the one responsible for creating the situation that made Punk want to leave.

Vince created the situation where the title was in jeopardy to begin with though. But the big point is that Cena's position was right, that Vince suspending Punk to prevent the match would hurt the prestige of the title just as much as Punk leaving with it, so Cena was the one who convinced Vince to actually have a fighting chance at salvaging the situation. And even if you thought it was a mistake, the board would be willing to forgive an awful lot when they desperately need their biggest star to be active to try to make up for not having a true WWE champion.

Its not fault of his own,but hes been in this holding pattern for awhile and Ryder-related fantasy booking at every turn gets old kind of quickly.

I mean based solely on things that happen on the show itself theres more reason to fantasy book Santino for the World title than some of the Ryder scenarios pitched.
