I'm really not sure I like these quests. Like it's a cool mechanic if each class has a lot of them but it's looking like each class is only going to get one.

The official page says that they're legendary so you can only have 1 in your deck but that's making it sound more like each class is only getting one.

Running 7 deathrattles isn't really enough of a drawback to get such a broken card as Amara so we're going to run into the same problems we get with all of the "tribe" tags. Blizzard really needs to stop trying to force these archetypes imo.

Reserving total judgement until I see some of the other quests but this looks like a misstep to me.

I don't know about standard because it will depend on the quality of deathrattles in the format, but Amara seems busted in half in wild with Deathrattle Priest.

Still, Quest seems like a cool mechanic. I hope there's more than one per class. There should be, otherwise I wouldn't think they'd have to specify that you can only have one. There are probably some neutral ones at least.

Finally saw the video.

I really like the theme for this set, though the dinosaur creature seems kinda weak as a 5 mana 5/4 (Divine Shie could be good to get but everything else is meh) which makes me a bit concerned about the adapt mechanic

The Legendaries seem good. Mage might be a bit slow but it is a control buster, Priest can be strong, depends on if resurrects increase the Quest count (to combo with Bishop and Kazakus)

Elemental tribe is cool I guess, depends on if we get discovers/tribal synergy (we probably will)

The theme is nice. The setup they had with the forest was amazing haha, best lead-in to a trailer ever.

I'm not sure how I feel about that new Adapt mechanic. I kinda have the same feeling from when I first saw Discover, but Discover turned out to be pretty good so who knows? Granted Adapt looks like it'll have less power than Discover, so less excitement overall really.

Quests are kinda neat in concept, but the video said they start in your opening hand right? I'm not sure if I like that.

Well we only know 6 of them and the only ones I really like are Divine Shield and the untargetable one.

That said, it probably is a very strong arena card.

Oh yeah I dunno if people are talking about this but

We are getting a regular minion and a quest spell legendary for each class so two legendaries per class, with only five neutral legendaries for a total of 23.

Should be pretty interesting and shows more of a focus on retooling classes and giving each one a specific identity!

I don't think the effects they get are necessarily that strong by themselves, but being able to grab the one you need at the right moment seems really good. Like Divine Shield could be good if you have some big minions you need to trade into, and maybe in most cases it would be better. But maybe the board is currently being swarmed? Sweet, time to throw down this taunt. That's the thing about taunts - if you don't need them they feel like kind of a waste, but if you don't have one when you need it, goddamnit.

Questing seems kind of interesting though. You'd definitely have to build your deck around it.

Priest is by far my favourite class. Out of my 18 decks I think 8 of them are priest? So I think I might have to craft NZoth now....

I don't think the priest quest is horribly unbalanced, per se. What I do think is that it will lead to extreme cases of what we already experience with aggro vs reno. Reno on 6? You win. Need a turn 7? You lose....except now we're going to see that even moreso against priests. Either you beat them down before they can play 7 deathrattles, or they likely run over you afterwards. Thing is, if the priest is determined to trigger it, a deck full of deathrattles is really not that big a challenge.

I'm curious, if you complete the quest, and then play Reno, does he restore your health to 40 or 30?

But Adapt? I dunno...it seems like they're getting lazy and went "discover worked well. Let's make a new variation on discover!" And it looks to be potentially massively broken. To be able to choose just between taunt and windfury is pretty insane, really, and those are the two least-mentioned abilities revealed. I'm curious if all adapt minions get the same list with the same stats, because a cheaper adapt minion that can have +3 attack could be really powerful. Oh look, my 2/3 for 2 is now a 5/3.

Yeah, Adapt seems kind of boring in general. They combined Discover and Kazakus, which isn't very creative. it has potential to be broken, but I think that specific card as a 5 mana 5/4 is pretty bad in terms of standard play, so we'll see the statlines on some of the others.

Questing seems super broken. I have a feeling that the other quests aren't going to be as crazy as the Priest one, mostly because I can't even think of a way to make an even more powerful card.

Yeah, like, it COULD be a Booty Bay.... or it could be something else more useful to the situation. That's what makes it good. Flexibility.

That's also what makes it interesting - it's not better because it's just a straight up better effect than previous cards. It offers different solutions without too much power creep.

I don't think so. Druid of the Claw is way better, and 4 mana 5/4 Taunts aren't even good enough. Divine Shield is probably the biggest thing you could get off it from what I see.

Well, okay, it's outclassed by another choose card, but might I point out that inherently DotC is 4/4. It's taunt option adds 2 health as well. They could have done that here. Instead they made them two separate options.

And no, I'd almost never take 5/4 taunt over 4/6 taunt. However, if you were in a bind against a pirate warrior with a reaper on the table and you're at less-than-nine health, you'll take any taunt you can get. You'd be ecstatic just to have a targeting dummy or a hex frog. But since that use is very limited, how convenient that you can do other things with it!

I mean, you can do other things with Druid of the Claw, too, but it's rather uncommon for it to get used as a 4/4 charge, even though 4/4 charge for 5 is still pretty good. It's just that 4/6 taunt is almost too good. It's strictly better than Fen Creeper -- significantly, since 4 attack vs 3 is a big deal in the mid-game. But saying the card is weak or poor simply because 'Claw exists is a bit specious. This card can do things Claw cannot.

Holy crap. Do the murlocs get the same slate of choices? I can actually see a Call in the Finishers / Everyfin is Awesome deck being viable with that card.

Well the concept I had with the legendary was that it keeps adding new adaptations each turn so your opponent really needs to remove it.

Without stealth it wouldn't even be able to adapt once but if you gave it a battlecry and the adapt each turn effect it would probably be too strong.

Imagine Finja drawing out some bluegills/warleaders then the dinosaur gives them divine shield, windfury, or even poison to remove annoying minions. Crazy strong potential

Magic is a bit confusing for me now. I haven't played it in over a decade, probably a lot longer, and every time I look at a card for whatever reason I'm more often than not confused.

Back in my day (oh god), the hardest part of Magic was trying to read Lich or Vesuvan Doppelganger when you forgot your glasses.

I had an Arena Priest deck with Justicar, Elise, and Rafaam. I think I ended up with 6 wins but one of the games was basically constructed in that it almost went to fatigue but the mage ran out of threats as I kept healing for 4 each turn.

I'm really digging the new Arena but I'll be more excited with the rotation hits.
