Windham puts Gilbert away in a decent opener. (66) Meng is out with the guy from last week. It's his good friend the Barbarian! Together, they are the Faces of Fear, and they're gonna teach Sika and Albano a thing or two! (49) Sika seems unfazed as he rolls through Owen Hart. (55) Afa tells Fink he's amused by all these shenanigans. (56)

Butch Reed gets a win over Hiro Saito. Nobody cares. (40) Tommy Rich cares though! He sees the same kind of fire in Reed that drives himself. And he wants to extinguish it. (68) Style and Substance, accompanied by Heenan, easily dispatch the Survivors. (56) Duggan wants to see Ventura earn #1 Contendership, which he'll have a chance to do next week! (71)

We open with Brisco vs. Ventura! Solid match until Funk runs in, wiping out Brisco and causing a DQ. (76) Funk continues attacking until Brisco is down and out. (82) Schultz beats Garea under the watchful eye of Heenan. (62) Bolo and Jones are still tag champs and stuff. (66)

We see a skit of Money and Power taking Andre out on the town, trying to find him a suit that fits and enough alcohol to have an effect. (92) Flair and Steamboat go over Bruno and Lawler in a great, albeit random, match. (94)

King Muraco thinks All Japan is on its last legs! All the WWF is banding together to fight them off, and even the Von Erichs are getting along! (100) That is in question, however, as the Von Erichs take on Hasnsen and Rich. KVE and DVE co-exist, but their teamwork is clearly tense, allowing the heels to get the win. (83) In a segment that was supposed to be early in the show, Duggan announces that Atlas will fight Ventura for #1 Contendership! (61)

(56) Speaking of FoF, they make their official debut with a win over Saito and Misawa. (43)

Heenan has a plan to get Style and Substance back on track. (56) Butch Reed defeats Jumbo Tsuruta. (71) We cut to backstage to see Style and Substance putting the boots to Bolo and Jones! (39)

It's time for the IC Title #1 Contendership. Ventura looks good as he goes through Atlas! (72) Ventura is going to celebrate his victory (and upcoming TITLE win) with a concert next week! (77)

Bruno jumps Flair! (66) But it was supposed to come AFTER Flair beat Sheik. (80) Heenan tells Bolo and Jones that their time as champs is limited, because Style and Substance are gunning for them! They agree to a match at Summerslam. (64) Ventura puts away Santana in a solid match. (74) But Duggan isn't worried! He's gonna defend that IC Title! (80)

Funk and Brisco both think they have proven their points already, but they're gonna prove 'em again this Sunday! (71) Rich beats Windham in a quality match. (82) The Von Erichs are backstage, arguing about their tag loss last week. David slaps Kevin and stalks off! (89)

Our main event sees Muraco and Steamboat team up against Hansen and AKIO. Good match, and King Muraco has more success against All Japan than the Von Erichs did. (74) Money and Power bring out Andre in a new suit! They're good friends now. Therefore, it is regrettable that they can't fight over the NWA Title now. ...Except Andre never actually agreed to that part! He doesn't have a price like that! He decks DiBiase and fights off Williams. (90)

Butch Reed and Giant Baba put on a solid opener, but nobody cares. Reed wins. (47) Rich appears and taunts Reed, and Saito and Misawa jump Reed while he's distraction! (35)

In further bathroom break action, Bret and Owen defeat Edwards and Sharpe. (46) Sheik complains to Ray Stevens about life in general. (61) Windham beats Tsuruta, but the crowd still doesn't care. (65) Jones/Bolo and Style and Substance have a contract signing, and then fight. (58)

The original Wild Samoans REUNITE....in a losing effort to the Faces of Fear! (69) As promised, Ventura is here to sing for us! It's pretty terrible, so Duggan's 2x4 puts a merciful end to it. (80)

WWF Presents Summerslam
Sunday, Week 4, August 1984

Pre-show: Santana/Steamboat d. Lawler/Afa (76)

King Muraco is going to take down Hansen tonight! Hansen doesn't think so. (92) But first, the NWA Title! DiBiase is clearly not a fan of having to face Andre, but attempts at bribery have failed. The champ puts up a decent fight, but Andre gets the upper hand fairly decisively. Andre gets DiBiase in a bear hug! DiBiase is struggling to stay conscious....and Williams runs in for the save! DiBiase takes a DQ, but escapes with the title, (93) and absconds to the back as Andre and Williams brawl. (96)

The Tag Titles are up next. Bolo and Jones win a close one over Style and Substance to retain. (77) However, the heels aren't done! They keep up the assault after the match, and rip Bolo's mask off! Bolo hides his face before anybody gets a good look, but Martel and Schultz parade the mask around the ring like a trophy. (46)

Funk and Brisco talk some more. (79) Then Funk beats him. (82) IC Title time! Ventura and Duggan put together a surprisingly great match, and Ventura is able to stay one step ahead and win the belt! (80) He tells us all to get used to it, because The Body is here to stay! (91)

Flair and Bruno, by contrast, are somewhat underwhelming. Flair submits the legend. (77) He then gets the crowd back into it with a few WOOOOOs. (92) Rich puts away Reed. (74) They throw a few more hands afterwards. (56) It is the battle of the brothers, as Kevin and David Von Erich square off in our sub-main event! A solid match as always. KVE applies the Iron Claw, and DVE taps out, concerned about damage to his beautiful face. (81) David screams at Kevin and storms off! (83)

It's finally time for King vs. Champion! Muraco puts together a fantastic challenge for Hansen's WWF Title, but the champ is able to hang on after a runin from Baba and Tsuruta! (95) Hansen says to never bet against New Japan, because Hansen's gonna come out on top Every. Single. TIME! YOOOOOOUUUUUU (100)

Overall: 93 SUCCESS

Pre-show: Bolo (with a bag over his head) and Owen d. Baba and Sika (56; Sika's Wild Man gets a 65)

Ray Stevens re-introduces the LETHAL LOTTERY! Tonight we're gonna have some unusual tag matches to celebrate! (58) Kicking off the festivities, Duggan and Santana prevail over Bruno and Sheik. (77) Duggan is sad that he lost the IC Title, but he's still to fight for the USA! All Japan takes offense to that and interrupts. Hansen and Rich jump the tired Duggan, and take out Santana too! (80)

Jones approaches Style and Substance backstage. He doesn't appreciate that they stole his partner's mask! Heenan says Bolo can have his mask back....if SnS get a rematch for the tag titles! Jones reluctantly agrees. (46) In another tombooking, Lawler and Ventura go over Steamboat and Windham in a fierce match. (83)

King Muraco and KVE are teaming up tonight! They've teamed up before, and are excited to run over some fools! But come Lethal Lottery, they won't hold back if they cross each other! (90; Muraco's Unique Charismatic gets 95) They then proceed to indeed run over some fools- specifically Afa and Koloff. (70)

Fink interviews Brisco. Funk hurt him bad at SummerSlam, but he's still standing and looking for a fight! Brisco hopes he can fight Funk in Lethal Lottery. (56) Stevens is out again, this time calling out Money and Power. That was a clever trick they pulled at Summerslam, taking out Andre to retain by DQ! ....But the fans aren't gonna let them get away with that. We're getting Andre/DiBiase again at Lethal Lottery! DiBiase looks panicked. (80)

Speaking of Andre, he's with Flair in tonight's main event! They take on the team of Funk and David Von Erich. Flair gets the win in this blockbuster tag match! (88)

Heenan is in the ring with a contract for a tag title match! Jones comes out, clarifies that he'll get Bolo's mask back, and signs! ....Heenan points out that the contract says the mask will be returned AT Lethal Lottery! Then Style and Substance pop out from under the tablecloth and beat up Jones. (49)

In Lethal Lottery-related shenanigans, Koloff gets to team up with WWF Champ Hansen! They'll take on the Survivors, and win handily. (75) Hansen tells us that WWF can run as many of these silly events as they want, but he's still their champ, and nobody can stop All Japan! (90)

Sika beats Garea and nobody cares. (42) Baba and Tsuruta echo Hansen's pride, and run down the US. They beat the heck out of Duggan last week! Duggan is here, and none too happy about that. He takes the fight to the former tag champs, and gets the upper hand before officials separate them! (62) Baba and Tsuruta still have a match to deal with, and things go from bad to worse as they deal with the "Lottery-ish" pairing of Andre and Butch Reed! Andre basically solos. (73)

Money and Power are upset at Andre getting another shot, but DiBiase has a plan to hang on to his title! (92) Finkel gets Flair's thoughts on the Lethal Lottery, and tonight's battle royal with all 20 competitors! He's the Nature Boy, and he'll take as much abuse as he needs to to get the job done! Woo! (74) Finally, we have a 20 man battle royal with the entire LL lineup! I ain't detailing the whole list, but pretty much everybody noteworthy who isn't on the rest of this card is in. Bruno goes on a good run, but Rich is the last man standing! (87) Whoever he gets stuck with at Lethal Lottery is gonna be a lucky man, but Rich is the best man. That's why he won tonight, and that's why he's gonna do it at Lethal Lottery! (87)

Pre-show: Bag-head Bolo d. Sheik (78)

Faces of Fear kick us off with a hotly contested win over Baba and Tsuruta. (56) Fink hops in the ring and informs us that Faces of Fear have qualified for Lethal Lottery! We'll have a second tag match later tonight with the same stakes. FoF are excited. (47)

Style and Substance wipe out Jones, since Bolo is still not officially here! (48) In another Lethal Lottery qualifier, we see the Harts face off with Saito and Misawa for probably the first time on the main A-show. Harts win, but remain unsuccessful in getting anybody south of the border to care. (41)

Now, let's get on with the real stars! Duggan brings in Andre to face Hansen and Rich! Andre does a lot of the heavy lifting, but Duggan is the one to score a huge pin! (82) Andre is about to leave the ring when he is cut off by Ray Stevens. He admits that he has been receiving a lot of pressure lately from sponsors and the board of directors. Therefore, there will be a slight change to the NWA Title match at Lethal Lottery! Here to gloat/tell us about it are Money and Power. SOMEBODY with a lot of Finances and Influence has convinced WWF to make the match a triple threat...so Dynamite Eddie Williams has been added to the match! (83)

Speaking of multi-way matches, we have a four-way tag team match to further build up Lethal Lottery! Tonight, at least, folks were able to pick their own partners. The team of Muraco and KVE emerges victorious, knocking off Flair/Santana, DVE/Funk, and Ventura/Bruno. (88) They get a bit of promo time to put themselves over. (76) In a segment that TOTALLY happened in the middle of the card and not the end, Lawler and Windham both think they're winning LL. (57)
