Fink is here with your LETHAL LOTTERY bracket! He announces....
Flair/Bret v. Owen/Sheik
KVE/Barbarian v. DVE/Rich
Muraco/Windham v. Brisco/Funk
Santana/Bruno v. Lawler/Afa
Steamboat/Atlas v. Ventura/Meng
with the winners advancing to a battle royal! We'll see some of these pairings in action tonight, but before Fink can elaborate, he's cut off by an irate Funk! Funk has no interest in teaming with that dweeb Brisco, and Brisco comes out to state he's not a fan either. Fink expresses his condolences and gets out of Dodge before things turn violent. (70)

Two of our LL teams are kicking off the action! It's Steamboat and Atlas against Lawler and Afa Reigns. Everybody gets in some spots, but Steamboat is your winner. (81) The Harts are backstage, upset about having to fight each other. Sheik shows up and tells Owen to break the jabroni's neck and make him humble. Flair shows up and regrets that they have to put down Bret's brother! (66)

Style and Substance corner Jones again! He gets the boots put to him again...but here comes Bolo with a bag on his head to make the save! (54) Santana and Bruno get a warmup against Baba and Tsuruta! Can the strange bedfellows cooperate? ....Not really, it turns out, but they can at least co-exist long enough to withstand the former champs. (57) Santana and Bruno are clearly less than happy with each other, but after a few words are exchanged, they part ways without coming to blows. (60)

In another LL preview, we see King Muraco and Barry Windham against Meng and IC Champ Ventura. Finish is a bit off after a weird tag with the heels, but the faces prevail in an otherwise solid outing. (80, Meng/Ventura poor chem) Ray Stevens brings Hansen and Duggan out for a staredown, and to announce that they will be fighting for the title this Sunday! (70)

Our main event switches gears from the Lethal Lottery scene to give us Andre and KVE teaming up against Money and Power! Andre makes a big statement going into the NWA Title match, slamming Williams on top of DiBiase as the finish! (89) DVE and Rich come out after the match! Trying to get a leg up for LL, they go after KVE! Andre starts to help out, but he is in turn jumped by Money and Power. Things look grim until The Barbarian makes the save for his temporary partner! (80)

Sunday, Week 4, September 1984

Pre-show: Style and Substance d. Bolo and Jones for the tag titles! (70)

We're getting right into Lethal Lottery action! Kevin Von Erich teams up with relative newcomer The Barbarian against the top heel pairing of David Von Erich and Tommy Rich! Barbarian holds his own, but is clearly a bit outclassed, and the heels have prior experience together. Rich is able to pin Barbarian while the Von Erichs fight on the outside. (78) Rich and DVE pat themselves on the back, but leave the ring eyeing each other suspiciously as the battle royal looms. (90)

Next up, Ricky Steamboat and Tony Atlas take on IC Champ Jesse Ventura and Meng! The face/heel dynamic (and poor actual chemistry) causes quite a bit of tension on the latter team, but the Body still manages to put away Atlas. (74) Meng offers a handshake after the match, but Ventura just polishes his IC belt and leaves. (80) Style and Substance come out to gloat about winning the tag titles and show some clips. (49)

It's the battle of the Harts (but mostly more important people) next! Ric Flair and Bret Hart take on the even more improbable pairing of Iron Sheik and Owen Hart. Sheik spends most of the match berating Owen, while Flair and Bret are able to function fairly smoothly. Flair gets the win with the Figure Four after Sheik fails to stretch particularly far to make a crucial tag. (69) Sheik and Owen bicker after the match, at which point Bret interjects himself, and the Harts doubleteam Sheik to well-menaing "USA" chants. (52)

Tito Santana and Bruno Sammartino are our next face/heel team for Lethal Lottery, and they'll be fighting Jerry Lawler and Afa Reigns. Santana and Bruno clearly aren't fans of each other, but they're able to set their differences aside in the name of wild brawling. It's a hectic one, but Bruno is the last man standing. (73) Santana and Sammartino have a staredown before heading backstage. Your friend in the tag match is your enemy in the battle royal! (56)

Our final tag match is King Don Muraco and Barry Windham against perennial enemies Jack Brisco and Terry Funk. Brisco and Funk are never able to get on the same page, and Brisco eventually gets tired of it and refuses to tag in. Muraco and Windham are easily able to finish off Funk at that point. (75) Funk goes after Brisco, and they brawl up the ramp! (63)

We give the Lethal Lottery entrants a chance to catch their breath with a WWF Title match! Jim Duggan enters first, challenger that he is, and riles up the crowd against Hansen and All Japan. They came here to conquer us, but these colors don't run! Stan Hansen is out next, flanked by Baba and Tsuruta. This was never about Japan versus USA, or Asians against white guys, it's just All Japan against WWF! (85) Duggan gives it his all, but Hansen is able to outlast him to retain. (84)

For those of you playing the home game, our Lethal Lottery finalists are Windham, Bret, Sammartino, DVE, Muraco, Ventura, Meng, Flair, Santana, and Rich. The finish sees Bruno toss Muraco, Flair toss Bruno, and DVE hit a low blow before tossing Flair to win! (82) David Von Erich is once again on top of the WWF pile! How many times does he have to prove himself before you show some respect? (94)

We have a very odd NWA Title match for our main event. Ostensibly, Ted Dibiase is defending in a triple threat against "Dynamite" Eddie Williams and Andre the Giant, but the match quickly turns into a two-on-one affair. Surprising nobody, Williams is there just to serve as DiBiase's muscle. A breakup of Money and Power is teased at several points! DiBiase pulls Williams off Andre after a while, earning him a shove and a staredown. Andre strikes, going after the Million Dollar Man! Williams....attacks Andre from behind, and the beatdown resumes. Andre is strong, but not strong enough to beat two of our toughest competitors at once. DiBiase scores the pinfall to retain. (87) Andre rolls out and grabs a chair while the heels celebrate! DiBiase bails, leaving Williams to take the beating for both of them. Andre at least gets to stand tall at the end of Heels Win: The PPV! (100)

David Von Erich is here to brag about winning Lethal Lottery, but no time for that because G-1 CLIMAX! DVE is annoyed at the interruption as Ray Stevens explains that we'll have two round-robin pools of four guys, with the top two from each advancing to the PPV. (68) And G-1 starts RIGHT NOW with Duggan and Williams in A-Block action! Duggan's ill fortune continues as he loses clean to the demolition man. (82) DiBiase comes out to brag on his buddy and also celebrate outmaneuvering Andre at Lethal Lottery! He lectures us about Money and Power until Kevin Von Erich calls him on being a paper champ! (88)

Enjoying his off-week from G-1, Funk puts Bret away in short order. (68) Fink introduces us to some new jobber called Shawn Michaels, who does the jumpy stuff. (47, HBK's Show Stealer gets an initial 89)

Santana calls out Bruno. They didn't get along that great at Lethal Lottery, but they fought well together and Santana thought they could be friends. Bruno...is not interested. (64) Oh well, they are fighting anyway in a battle royal for a shot at Ventura and the IC Title! It's a buncha midcarders, and it comes down to Santana and Bruno (who eliminate each other) and Steamboat and Windham. Steamboat knocks Windham over the top for the win! (74)

Bolo and Jones invoke their rematch clause for the tag titles! Style and Substance agree, but Bolo and Jones are gonna regret it! (57) We continue with B-Block Climax action! King Muraco battles Tommy Rich in a barnburner...with Muraco emerging victorious this time. (81)

Hansen is still here as your WWF Champ, and still here mocking you! He's got a good idea of his next victim, too. (100) Back to A Block for our main event! Andre rolls through DVE. (84) Flair and Funk were off this week, but they are gonna be in G-1 next week! They taunt each other in preparation. (100)

Rich kicks us off. He lost last week, but that just feeds the WILDFIRE within, and he's going to win this Climax yet! (82) Andre and Duggan are set for their G-1 match, but first they have to talk about how much they r, espect each other and America and all that. (91) And then they beat each other up for a while. Unsurprisingly, Andre gets the W after Duggan fails to bodyslam him. (78)

We get a video look at the training regimens of Ventura and Steamboat. The IC Champ mainly just rocks all day, but Steamboat is all disciplined and stuff. (88) Muraco beats Fuji. (69) Lawler and Windham discuss the G-1 Climax so far. Windham's impressed with Andre, but Lawler's backing David Von Erich. (57)

Snuka and Jones put away Baba and Tsuruta in a battle of former tag champs, (77) but Style and Substance come out afterwards! The champs put the boots to Jones...and rip off Bolo's mask! It's....Jimmy Snuka! Snuka runs to the back. (43) Flair and Funk trade barbs before they fight in G-1. Flair's not scared of Funk's edge! (88) Perhaps he should be, because Funk gives Flair quite a beating...but the Nature Boy is able to hold out for the win. (85)

Santana and Bruno are gonna settle it in the ring! ....Is what we thought, but here comes Stan Hansen! Nobody's sure what the champ wants, but he sucker punches Bruno and lays out Santana! (70) Our main event is more G-1! Dynamite Eddie Williams faces David Von Erich. Williams gets the win, but not without a bit of assistance from DiBiase and the NWA title belt! (82) KVE takes offense with this, and says a few words about how much Money and Power like shortcuts. A brawl erupts, with the estranged Von Erich brothers able to team up momentarily! KVE and DiBiase brawl up the ramp while DVE gets a bit of vengeance on Williams. (93)

With very little ceremony, Lord Alfred Hayes has been replaced on commentary by some guy with a neck brace and receding hair. He calls himself "Arn Anderson."

Barry Windham is here to welcome us to a very exciting edition of ASW! We've got more G-1 action headed your way, and-

Some weird guy comes out, says "hey yo," and flicks his toothpick in Windham's face! Windham is not quite sure what to do with that, so the guy introduces himself as Razor Ramon and tells us to say hello to the bad guy. (43, Razor's Suave gimmick gets 93)

Never mind that weirdness, let's get to the action! DVE and Duggan are set to square off, with both looking for a moral victory after losses to Andre and Williams. ...Neither one is going to get it here, as flagrant fouls persist on both sides! The ref eventually gives up and calls for the double DQ. (84) Fink is backstage with Jones and Snuka. Fink mentions that Snuka was supposed to be fired, but since it's been a few months, and since Snuka was a champion as "Bolo," the statute of limitations has run out! (67)

Santana and Sammartino TEAM UP again against Baba and Tsuruta! Despite All Japan's superior teamwork, Tito and Bruno are able to outlast them. (67) Hansen comes out to run them down afterwards, and challenges them to a TRIPLE THREAT for his WWF Title! (74) Steamboat confronts Ventura backstage. Ventura is an embarrassment to the business, and later on Steamboat will show him how a true IC-caliber wrestler should behave! (63)

After commercial, Steamboat enters with KVE to take on Money and Power! You'd expect Steamboat to be the weak link in this high-end match, but he's able to hold his own remarkably well. KVE picks up a huge win, putting an exclamation point on his claims to an NWA Title shot. (80) Things go from bad to worse for Money and Power, as Andre also comes out! He and Williams have already qualified for the G-1 playoffs, but they're still going to fight next week, and Andre's looking forward to it! (88)

In the more suspenseful G-1 block, King Muraco takes on Terry Funk! Muraco is able to punch his ticket to the semifinals, but Funk makes him work for that W. (89) A bearded fan approaches Andre for an autograph. Andre obliges, and the guy asks him to make it out to Steve. Steve Williams. Andre looks up, and is blindsided by Dynamite Eddie Williams! Andre gets a quick stomping, and Dynamite introduces his "little" brother to everybody watching. (73)

But we ain't done yet! Rich and Flair are main eventing in one more G-1 match! They've fought a couple times before, and this is just as solid, but Rich is the better man tonight. (89, Rich's Outside Threat gets 72)

Pre-show: Baba and Tsuruta d. Mike Rotundo and La Parka (52)

KVE confronts DiBiase. DiBiase doesn't have an opponent for G-1 Climax yet, and KVE reckons he's the first in line after his tag victory last week. DiBiase is amenable to beating him. (79)

King Muraco and Flair are our opening match. Muraco is looking for a clean sweep to clinch in his semifinal spot, but Flair manages to outmaneuver him for the eventual win. They're tied at 2-1, but Rich has a shot later at making that a three-way tie! (81) When we come back from commercial, Flair is still in the ring, along with Jerry Lawler and an elaborate setup for what he's calling the "King's Court." Lawler interviews Flair on his thoughts on the G-1, but sneaks in shots at Flair and the other faces while backing Dynamite Eddie to win. (86)

The ring is quickly cleared, and then Windham beats Misawa. (66) Sheiky rambles about nothing in particular. (53) We get previews for both the tag and IC title matches as Steamboat, Snuka, and Jones bump off Ventura and Style and Substance! (73) Duggan and DVE are backstage. Last week, they fought to a double DQ. They're both out of the G-1 as a result, but they're not willing to leave it there! This Sunday, they're going to have a No DQ match! (93) Hansen, Bruno, and Santana all think they're winning the WWF Title match. (76)

Tommy Rich takes on Terry Funk in the final match of their block, as the commentators speculate what will happen if Rich gets a win to make his block a three-way tie. There's no love lost between the former comrades, even if both have remained heel. Despite Funk's best efforts, Rich does indeed walk away with a win and a 2-1 record. (88) Ray Stevens, though, is prepared! He comes out and informs us that Andre and E. Williams are fighting tonight. The winner of that match (and thus, the block) will fight only ONE of Rich/Muraco/Flair in the semis, while the loser will fight the other two! That will be determined after the match. (69)

Andre and Dynamite have both already qualified, but now there are stakes for the final round-robin match! Williams is able to get a huge (pun intended) upset! (89- actually I put in the wrong winner in my notes >_>) Fink comes out with a bingo drum, and draws the semifinal matches....Williams is up against Flair, which leaves Andre to face Rich and Muraco! (75)

Overall: 88 SUCCESS
