Educate me please, is Socialism a government type? I know Communism is, but I thought "Socialist" is used to refer to policies and not entire governments.

It's not consistent with human behavior, so of course it will fail. Capitalism is the single greatest factor behind the global decline in poverty and improvement in standard of living in the 20th and 21st centuries. Socialism has no accomplishments to boast of. Even the Scandinavian countries that liberals gush about are all capitalist.

They're social democracies. Capitalist systems with strong social programs, welfare states, and safety nets. Leading to VASTLY lower economic inequality than in lots of other countries.

Pure unregulated capitalism and pure socialism are both idiotic, naive, destructive policies.

I think you're confusing the elimination of bureaucracy with unregulated. The US markets absolutely want regulation in terms of a judicial system to enforce contracts, standardization of systems, and government protection of assets/property. What it does not want is idiots in government who don't understand the financial world passing legislation that impedes the markets.

Wow, lower income equality? That's cuz everyone gets crushed in taxes. Would you like to pay 60% of your income for a bunch of freeloaders? Hell no. I work my ass off. Why the hell would I work so much if I wasn't gona get paid very much? Where's the incentive. Those countries may be comfortable, but they aren't vibrant in the world scene. To the extent that Capitalism has produced improved results for lower classes, it has been the result of pressures placed on those with power by democratic and socialist movements. Capital has opposed these reforms at every step of the way, decrying that they would spell the end of business.

Nope, it's been because rich folks like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have used their billions to support charitable organizations that have lead to both direct improvements and indirect pressure on regional governments.

Socialists haven't accomplished anything, and they've been essentially irrelevant in helping with any of the improvement we've seen internationally.

That's true. And it's a shame Socialism used that attractive name to describe their dipshit social experiment. Which is more like communism in the end anyway. As soon as the Dictator moves in, through a wave of blood.

Also, popular uprisings against the government tend to be viewed unfavorably in socialist states. You need a capitalist republic just to safely talk about revolutions. In socialist states, you would be considered a rebel, and enemy of the government. Then they'd shoot you probably, or you'd disappear

Why do capitalists fail to understand that as soon as a dictatorship comes into power, the movement immediately ceases to be communist/socialist

Like a single tyrannical authority literally flies in the face of the entire ideology, which heavily relies upon a council

Eugene Debs was imprisoned in a capitalist republic for speaking out against WWI. Our jurisprudence on the first amendment stems largely from him and the socialist fringe; freedom of speech is rarely ever in doubt for those with mainstream views.

It's really that the US has a high income tax and a low sales tax compared to other countries. So while in other countries people are paying less in income taxes, they are generally paying more in sale taxes.
