Civil War is faithful to the characters involved in it. Tony Stark is an arrogant prick that believes when he finds a cause it is more important than anything else - including the other people he works with. Cap just wants MURICA to be MURICA and Tony Stark is not the MURICA he used to know.

Civil War is actual SJWs vs. MURICANs in all honesty. Politically correct superheroes are acceptable, heroes that go around and try to seize their destiny and dole out independent punishment in the name of FREEDOM and MURICA are bad.

That's a bit odd because the trailers made it feel like it was the other way around - Cap was the one trying to fight for an ideal to the exclusion of doing things the "right way" and Tony Stark was the one trying to keep him in a certain line.

I guess trailers do lie.

I haven't seen the movie and I don't plan to.

I'm talking about the comic.

Which you said the movie was true to so... *shrugs*

Just saying that the trailers made things seem opposite how you described them. I'm not trying to comment on something I know nothing about, this time.

I said the comic is true to its characters. I realize now that I didn't say a crucial thought in there - they should have stuck to the comic.

Well, I'm excited for Captain Marvel at least. But agreed, would love a She Hulk or Spider Woman film.

Kenri posted...
So for those of you who have seen this already, is it as grimdark as the other DC movies or closer to the MCU in tone?

Somewhere in between. Gal Gadot learning about the world from Chris Pine and trying to fit into London is very charming and funny. The film's set during World War I though, which isn't exactly a bright and shiny period of history, but it doesn't shove it down your throat either. It had a good balance.

Good to hear, thanks! I generally like goofier superhero stuff but it sounds like this won't be too far in the opposite direction to bug me too much.

Interestingly it's worth knowing that Snyder did supervise this one creatively, and was hands-off for Suicide Squad. David Ayer has a good record as well.

I think the reason this one succeeds is that they got it together on the production end. BvS and SS were messes in that sense. This is the first one produced since WB actually got people in to guide these films (as Kevin Feige does for Marvel) and it shows. Also the first one Geoff Johns is involved with. No Goyer also helps - this makes me more confident in Justice League as Chris Terrio alone is writing.

Wishing all the best to Zack Snyder by the way, what he went through was awful.

Civil War I didn't find as good as the others, most of it was hamfisted and in the idling moments of the film I found myself wondering why the various parties were acting the way they did.

It's not a bad film, certainly not great though imo.

Glad to hear good things about WW, bout time DC started getting it together.

Do you consider it the third Captain America, or the 3rd Avengers? Because both are pretty valid.

It's better than the second Avengers, and the first Cap.

Worst superhero movies I've seen (not all are hot garbage, but some were disappointing after their original/second movie):

Hulk
Daredevil
Catwoman
Green Lantern
Spider-Man 3
X-Men The Last Stand
Wolverine Origins
Iron Man 2-3
Thor 2
Batman TDKR
Amazing Spider-Man
Fantastic 4 1-2 (dunno how I forgot them until the Edit)

The first time I watched it, that was the only truly terrible scene, but then on a second watchthrough, there is a really bad combination of writing and acting for most of these characters. When they have to spout the technobabble in regards to Ultron's birth/Vision's birth, it's so damn disingenuous. None of these actors know what they're talking about because it's garbage, and it's so easy to laugh at it.

And in hindsight, Ultron makes no sense. How is the robot born from a computer less human than the robot imbued life by a magical gemstone. Ultron hates the emotions and behaviors of humans... so he makes sarcastic comments, jokes, gasps at times? It's just nonsense.

I think the ASM movies are a bit underrated. There's some good stuff in there, for instance, Spider-Man actually acting like Spider-Man. And the dubstep battle with Electro is pretty sweet. I think the issue is more than there was a shit ton of Sony meddling that wrecked the movies, especially the second one.

I mean I know it's a cliche now to never trust trailers, but I have never felt so betrayed by trailers as I was with AoU. They did such a good job hyping the movie up to be so dark! I was super pumped for Ultron to be a complete monster of a villain, maybe even like a movie version of AM (I know, slap me for having hopes like that). And then what we got was, just awful. Even the dark version of I Have No Strings which, impossibly, was somehow awesome in the trailer was completely forced and ridiculous in the actual movie. And none of this is Spader's fault. He did an outstanding job with what he was given, he was just given total shit.
