It seems like bad CGI action fantasy does well overseas. Didn't Warcraft make absurd money in China?

Overseas, they are absolutely in love with Tom Cruise. Like, Tom Cruise is so popular in one of those countries that they titled Edge of Tomorrow as "Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow" over there. Like, that's how it was actually titled on everything.

Warcraft wasn't bad, really. Just run-of-the-mill fantasy; we're inured to it, but the market in China that's opening up is starved for stuff like that.

Yeah, but this is somehow the best performing Tom Cruise movie yet

The market is just growing overseas constantly. Ever since the initial penetration into the international box office with The Dark Knight in 2008, it's been growing exponentially.

Wonder Woman was really good - even if the climax is the usual CGI-heavy battle - and despite the fact it probably won't top the weekend box office again (Cars 3 and the Tupac bio seems like too much competition) it looks to at least surpass Man of Steel's gross.

The Mummy... well, it's possible to have fun (here's a more lenient review:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J150XsV4WAg
) despite among other things, an underwhelming ending. But don't compare it to Warcraft, it at least tries to do a story that audiences can easily follow (says something the plot of Warcraft is more accessible as the cutscenes\briefings in-between missions of the original game!).

I legit enjoyed Warcraft more than some other movie I saw around the same time (Age of Ultron I think? Whichever big blockbuster came out around the same time.) Warcraft is a solid enjoyable movie and I enjoyed it. Helps that I know the plot of Warcraft 2, but not Warcraft 1, so I actually didn't see a lot of the twists coming.

Considering Warcraft 1 pretty much had a very basic plot that existed only to frame your missions, you wouldn't have seen the twists coming anyways.

Saw it. It's good, but that's as far as I'd go.

Best DC movie, but doesn't touch stuff like Captain America 2 or the GotG movies.

This is my take too.

Tom Cruise was pretty damn popular in America, too, until he joined scientology and started jumping on couches. I think somehow they just missed all that overseas.

Probably in Asia they just look at it all as "Western religion is weird" and don't draw the distinctions we do.

Well, scientology certainly is. Even by theological standards. (Why would you trust a religion invented by a science fiction writer? Is there a single less credible background for the founder?)

I thought it was average-ish. I really didn't like the beginning and there's some stuff strewn about the movie that I found annoying or predictable. But I did like Gal Gadot and Chris Pine a lot. I don't mind the CGI-fest but there was definitely too much SLO MO in the action during the movie.

It was kind of odd, you could see moments where it went "Yup, this is sure a Zack Snyder movie", then the rest of it where someone went "We're going to rescue this from being a Zack Snyder movie"
