Every time I'm with my buddies and we see a Mummy trailer, we say to each other "I miss Brenden Frasier." I don't know why they would betray what the originals were like, which were great movies. If you want to make a "Horrorverse" they probably would have been better off starting with a different movie, like Creature from the Black Lagoon, except just call it The Creature and make it an actually quality film. Kickstart it with a surprise that nobody expects.

They tried to kick it off with Dracula Untold a couple years ago but for whatever reason they decided after the fact to drop it from their new canon.

Probably the same reason the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie isn't part of the DCEU, if I had to guess. <_<

And this really had no advertising to speak of either (Mummy ads were everywhere). Amazing what making a goodass movie and letting word of mouth go from there will do

I didn't know there was a Mummy movie until this week. By contrast, I've known Wonder Woman's release date for months and have seen YouTube and online ads for it for a while. So I'm a little confused when people say there was no advertising for Wonder Woman.

This seems to be location based, because we had a big topic about it. I've never seen a Wonder Woman ad once other than Dr. Pepper cans, and a lot of people were talking about the lack of advertising, while others say they had tons of them.

I think it's because they marketed Wonder Woman to non-super hero audience because they knew people would see it anyway, had a lot of faith in it, and knew word of mouth would get any unsure comic fans to see it. The people they needed to sell on this weren't the hardcore like all of us. It was the casual audience.

Dracula Untold was actually pretty alright. Based on how people are reacting to The Mummy it's certainly the better of the two.

I wonder when the Spidey movies will start re-using villains that have been done in earlier reboots. Not counting the Tom Hardy Venom movie since that's apparently not a Spider-Man movie. I get that they want to distance themselves from earlier movies and there's a larger rogues gallery than most Marvel heroes, but at some point they've gotta want to do some of those iconic characters that have already been done.

I mean I guess they used the Harry Osborn Goblin in both the Tobey and Garfield boots but he was never the main antagonist of the picture.

Well of course Andrew Garfield was an awful Peter. They didn't write him as a Peter Parker at all. And considering all the accolades he's gotten from that one war movie he's in, I'd say if they wrote Peter to be more of a nerd, Andrew Garfield would have been perfect for that.

seriously, she just turned super saiyan. and Ares uses Archer's rocket swords/warped form of gate of babylon. and that was Jojo/a fighting game super when she did the rushdown on generic mooks.

oh no, i totally agree with that.
it was just such a wild contrast and the anime aspects were super in your face and pretty random.

what? the hero who has no chance to beat the villain has a person extremely close to them literally explode, prompting them to get pissed off and they release a ton of power in a giant, golden, glowing aura? never seen THAT before.

my other big issue is that this doesn't explain WW2 very well. honestly, it should've ended with him still trying to convince her to join his side, leaving and saying he'll leave humans be for a while, let her see how they develop even without him, and then you get Hitler and Stalin in WW2 and him showing up with a "see, i told you so."

It's actually an integral part of DC's best series of the early 80s, All-Star Squadron. The series was set in the 40s and featured the Justice Society and other Golden Age heroes, and it answered a lot fo the questions people had formulated over the years. It's a pretty neat tale. Anyways, Hitler's Spear of Destiny was concocted specifically for that tale.

Saw it last night. Thought it was... good.

I haven't seen any other recent superhero movies (assuming the Nolan trilogy doesn't count since no one talks about them in these conversations) apart from Deadpool, which I appreciated more than WW because it was so much more unique.

All I knew about Wonder Woman heading in was the amazing praise from audiences and critics, so I expected something more than what wound up being a pretty boilerplate movie plot. Granted it was done well - the action was fun, the locations/effects looked cool (maybe discounting the last fight, which seemed out of place with the rest of the movie), and Gadot did an amazing job - there was just little interesting about the movie.

I don't want to knock WW itself too much, but if this really is considered one of the best superhero movies since they took over the box office, then the rest of them must generally suck. >_>
