Justice League is mostly finished. He was the director. They're doing reshoots later in the year, and he won't be the director for that due to a family tragedy, so Joss Whedon, who will also direct Batgirl, will step in.

I mean, assuming it's going to be based stylistically on the Babs Tarr era Batgirl, it's not the worst pick. Given how frequently movie studios are plucking TV/indie/music video directors to helm their big franchises now, I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Lucia Aniello take on that role though.

Due to the fact that we dont even have a Batman movie yet we dont know the state the Batfam is in

But knowing it includes batgirl and joss whedon scares the shit out of me.

Also i am still nervous about this despitr the positive press because the depth with which i hate Steve Trevor and "Mr. excitement" Chris Pine who is playing him runs pretty deep.

It doesnt help that DC has literally told the wonder woman origin story twice in the last two years and its kinda sucked both times despitr getting rave reviews.

Just got out. Was really good! Like, not even 'for a DC film' good, just a solid film. The final sequence was a little jarring compared to the tone of the rest of the film, but yeah, good stuff. If WB make the rest of their films that good, they might have a fighting chance against Marvel.

But hey, if nothing else, hopefully this prompts more female superhero movies from both Marvel and DC.

and their positions are flipped for comics, so everybody wins

Somewhere in between. Gal Gadot learning about the world from Chris Pine and trying to fit into London is very charming and funny. The film's set during World War I though, which isn't exactly a bright and shiny period of history, but it doesn't shove it down your throat either. It had a good balance.

I'm still a bit miffed that the awesome Batman from the Animated Series who was more than a moody crusader - an actual detective with heart who can show compassion to his enemies at the moment they need it while still knowing to use force to stop them if he has to - is the Batman that isn't really ever represented on the big screen, ever. Instead, we have a tamer version of that 3edgy5me murderous misanthrope.

Well it sounds like you need a TV show and not a movie. Because Marvel heroes have no nuance and neither do the DC ones on the silver screen. But you can give a character nuance when you have 12 hours instead of 2. IE: Preacher, Legion, etc.

DCAU Batman gets pretty dark. He has his moments and definitely is a bit more nuanced, but the logical progression of that Bruce's character was a sad old man who had driven everyone he cared about away from him. I'd say it's a contributing factor to the edginess before a counterexample.

In my mind, DC has one of the best TV shows on TV right now. Wonder Woman is apparently one of the best superhero movies in recent years. In my mind, the goofier the property, the better the result from DC. So let's go obscure and make something mindblowing.

It worked for Fox with Legion.

Civil War is faithful to the characters involved in it. Tony Stark is an arrogant prick that believes when he finds a cause it is more important than anything else - including the other people he works with. Cap just wants MURICA to be MURICA and Tony Stark is not the MURICA he used to know.

Civil War is actual SJWs vs. MURICANs in all honesty. Politically correct superheroes are acceptable, heroes that go around and try to seize their destiny and dole out independent punishment in the name of FREEDOM and MURICA are bad.

That's a bit odd because the trailers made it feel like it was the other way around - Cap was the one trying to fight for an ideal to the exclusion of doing things the "right way" and Tony Stark was the one trying to keep him in a certain line.

I guess trailers do lie.

I haven't seen the movie and I don't plan to.
