Clannad, Steins;Gate, Fate/stay night, and Higurashi are all acclaimed anime adaptations of VN. You should experience at least one of them before watching the anime version to grasp firsthand the strengths of the VN medium.

There's also a trend of VN that have unsuccessful adaptations due to the difficulty of adapting VN and/or the ineptitude of their producers. This probably plays a part in why other successful VN don't get an anime adaptation.

If there's one more recommendation, it's Saya no Uta, with writer Gen Urobuchi (famed for Madoka, Psycho-pass, and fate/zero). It's a very short VN. It's disturbing, depraved, and it tells a story that you really can't find in otakudom.

He could have being saying books are better then VN, or VN is better then books, or that he likes the Dresden files, or he doesn't like the Dresden files, or that he thinks people compare books to VN to often, or any number of other possible meanings. His post was way to vague... He's now replied to me twice & I still have no idea what he meant in the original post. And I thought I was bad at making my point...

Firstly, no capitals, no punctuation points & the flow of the sentence feels like its missing words & feels grammatical incorrect.

I don't have a Gamecube, so I haven't played wind waker, sounds really good though. My fav is probably Ocarina of time. LOL, not a really original answer but hey, what can I say, its truly a great game, especially compared to the other games that were around when OOT released.

Thank Gandalf for kind & patient souls like you @YoukaiSlayer ! I finally get it. In hindsight I'm actually quite shocked I didn't actually understand it the first time. I must be getting old... Probably also the fact that I have never heard of the "Dresden Files".

As far as recommending VNs, there are so many, so ... several folks here might agree with me when I recommend Clannad. Unless you're looking for something a bit more adventurous.

I enjoy the books themselves, but I agree, the audio versions are great, too. Got the first four in a set for my wife last year for less than $30 U.S.

dies irae's common route is free, its english translation is fairly recent, and it's considered one of the best VNs period, so there's that. it's not super deep, just really REALLY hype

other good ones are Muvluv, Umineko, Himawari, Dengeki Stryker, YU-NO, G Senjou no Maou, Cross Channel, Clannad, Duel Savior, Subahibi (not out yet, but soon tm), Rewrite, Hoshizora no Memoria, Majikoi, Sharin no Kuni, Ever17, I/O, Symphonic Rain, Sengoku Rance, Yume Miru Kusuri, Period, Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, Grisaia...

it all comes down to what you're interested in. Want romantic drama? Key shit like Clannad or Little Busters, or Da Capo 2/3. Action? Dies Irae, Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, 11eyes; there's a LOT of actiony stuff. Literature that really makes you think? Cross Channel or Subahibi. Battles of wits like Death Note? G Senjou or Umineko are two more flavors of that. Like Romance of the Three Kingdoms gameplay? Alicesoft has a bunch of VN strategy games that are similar.

Want to just jump into what people generally consider "the best"? For the English community, that's Muvluv, Steins;gate, Umineko, Clannad, Fate/Stay Night, Dies Irae, Subahibi, and Himawari (and I agree for the most part, though Fate/Stay Night is kind of overhyped... it's fun, though). Subahibi isn't out officially yet, but it was being fan TL'd before it was offically picked up, so there's a very extensive partial patch out. And it's basically a mix of Alice in Wonderland with an acid trip, masked by a school setting.

It's really easy to just see a few VNs you find dumb and write off the entire medium like that, but please don't. Ever see regular people refuse to touch anime thinking it's for kids? Yeah... <_<

The Palaces start getting annoying at Kaneshiro's, but Futaba's is especially bothersome to me because you have this super-mellow music playing all the time while you're plowing through one obnoxious puzzle after another.

Still better than the fifth Palace, though.

Finished first half of Little Witch Academia. I enjoyed the earlier episodes as they are great but self contained. The underlying plot doesn't pick up until episode 11. Which isn't bad but it might turn off casuals who want a bigger picture and don't like slice of life. I like the new opener for he second half and from the first little clip of the Professor it looks like this is where things start to pick up.

@I_Abibde Episode 5 of PSO2 just started... and a bunch of characters are cameos/allusions to Phantasy Star characters. Setting is some kind of feudal era thing with battlefields and castles. And a new class just came out, Hero, that requires 3 classes at max level... which I fortunately have. It's time.

...seems like you get teleported through a black hole, end up in fantasy land, fight some knights that summon goblins with roses, save a waifu, then get teleported back by some.... fox guardian spirit chick. We anime now.

yeah, futabas was annoying, but it was fairly straightforward.

kaneshiro was just a fucking pain in the ass. it took me four days to beat it, whereas every other palace took two, and that's including after sending the calling card.

Just got Naruto Ultimate ninja heroes 3 for PSP. Its really good so far, definitely a must have for Naruto fans.

It feels alot like an over the top version of
Smash bros but with Naruto characters.
There's over 40 characters & they all feel very
unique, some even have unique powers like 1
that can summon a dragon to ride around the
stage & another that can grow to be like 20 feet
high! My only real complaint is that there is no
CPU vs CPU watch mode, I like having that in
these types of fighters. Other then that, the
graphics & sound is brilliant, it looks & sounds
anime perfect, great story mode with
Sidescrolling Platformer missions, tons of
characters & up to 4 characters being in a single
fight, also the stages are great. Its also got a nice
feature were if you hit R as your about to be hit it
teleports you behind your opponent, ready to
make your own attack. But then the opponent
could pull the exact some trick & then you end
up teleporting all over the place using all sorts of cool looking attacks, lots of eye candy for a
Naruto fan, Believe it!

For a Naruto fan like me, 8.5/10. For a non
Naruto fan that just wants a fighting game, maybe, 7.5/10.
