Hanasaku Iroha is such a weird show for me. Like looking at it from the outside I can see there's a good anime there, but at a more personal level I find the protagonist so absurdly unlikable that just nothing about the show actually works for me. One of my weird anime opinions I guess.

I started watching Plastic Memories on a whim and it's been pretty good so far. As a burgeoning anime snob I've taken to reading MAL reviews before starting one of my random choices. One review mentioned that the plot was fairly predictable. I'm only at episode seven right now, but... yeah, I already called a lot of stuff early on. I don't think that's a bad thing, though (it's why I never care about spoilers). I watch things to see how they come together and to feel things, and Plastic Memories is coming together really well. It's also gunning for my feelings with impressive ferocity and I predict it's only going to dig deeper as I approach the end.

I am also amazed that the two have basically entered an official relationship as of episode seven. 'Will they or won't they' is all well and good but it's a nice change of pace to not have to wait for the last episode to see them come together. I expect this closeness is only going to make my predicted ending hurt even more, though...

Plastic Memories is good stuff. The pacing is fantastic. They don't mess around with the relationship.

Plus it stars Amamiya Sora, one of my new seiyuu waifus.

I almost chose Clockwork Planet instead, so (depending on if it's really as bad as the reviews made it seem) MAL reviews might've already saved me once!

Finished Konohana Kitan. I wasn't really feeling it that much after the first couple eps, but I think it's mainly succeeded due to having really good episodic plots. The author's really good at setting things up for a climactic emotional finish, and a lot of the one-episode characters were great. Some fell flat, but I was generally impressed by this aspect of the show. Unfortunately, the rest of it is not so good. I hate the inn setting, especially with the weird implication of people being sold into slavery to work there. The main cast is also less than impressive. Yuzu makes for a good main character, interacting with things in the way the main character of this sort of show should (kinda like Akari from Aria, though not as good). Satsuki was alright as her friend/love interest, but not nearly developed enough. Ren was annoying, Natsume was mostly a cipher, Sakura was almost the super adorable girl that never talks until she adopted that awful hair-cutting gimmick, and Kiri basically felt pointless and one-dimensional the whole show. As a result of focusing on the episodic plots, the main cast never really got to develop as much as they should've. The manga originally ran in a yuri magazine, but the relationships never progressed much. Kinda a Yuru Yuri level of yuriness. Kinda a weird mix of good and bad. Gave it a 7 in the end.

Yuzu basically being Akari-lite is why I've been sticking and liking the show. Not super amazing but enjoyable enough.
