Wait Kilika is in Crossbell? I've been hyped for her inevitable role in the Calvard arc whenever we get that but I didn't realize she was in the Crossbell arc also.

But yeah the average Ouroboros member in TitS is not that great unfortunately.

I do actually have high hopes for the Crossbell arc in that regard though at least.

Loewe > Renne > Weissmann > Walter > Campanella > Bleublanc > Luciola

If this is just based on SC, Loewe is leagues ahead of the field. Factor in 3rd and Renne also separates herself from the others. Weissmann is the worst, but is also pretty interesting IMO. Other 4 are pretty whatever at best, but Walter is probably the leader of that group. Campanella has the mystery factor going for him. Bleublanc is a lamer. Luciola is just there.

I am factoring in The 3rd otherwise Renne and Loewe would switch.

Presumably she's got even more good stuff in Zero also, though I was not factoring in post-Sky appearances for any of the characters in my rankings.

Grancel Sewers aren't that bad

you guys need to develop jrpg dungeon navigation skills

Seriously though, I really don't think they're bad at all, but I basically have a system when navigating dungeons. I generally always take a certain direction pattern (usually left path first, etc.) and keep count of how many rooms I've passed that had an exit I didn't take. It usually works flawlessly.

iirc xenogears sewers were the worst

Oh right, I guess I should talk a little about Hyperion. I'm on the third character's story, which seems really promising since it looks like it'll deal with what happened to Earth since it seems like it no longer exists based on many inferences and implications in the story thus far. I liked the first character's story a lot. It was really interesting and went to some places I didn't expect. The second one was not as good, but it was decent, aside from the strangely descriptive sex scenes, which were kind of awkward, especially listening to it in audiobook form. I was glad no one else was around when that first one played because I wasn't ready for it!

okay so I just got this email

A proposed settlement has been reached in the nationwide class action lawsuit, In re Sony PS3 Other OS Litigation, United States District Court, Northern District of California, Case No. C-10-1811 (YGR). This lawsuit challenges the decision to disable the Other OS functionality from Fat PS3 computer entertainment consoles through Firmware Update 3.21, released on April 1, 2010. Fat PS3 consoles were consoles manufactured with the ability to install a Linux operating system as an alternative to the game operating system. Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) (n/k/a Sony Interactive Entertainment America LLC) is the defendant and denies all allegations.

If the settlement is approved and you are a Class Member, you may be eligible to submit a claim for benefits. You are a Class Member if you purchased a Fat PS3 between November 1, 2006 and April 1, 2010 from an authorized retailer for family, personal and/or household use and you: (1) used the Other OS functionality; (2) knew about the Other OS functionality; or (3) contend or believe that you lost value or desired functionality or were otherwise injured as a consequence of Firmware Update 3.21 and/or the disablement of Other OS functionality in the Fat PS3. Class Members will be eligible to receive a cash payment up to $65 per valid claim, the exact amount of which will depend on how many valid claims are submitted. The deadline for submitting claim forms is April 15, 2018. Claim forms are available on the Settlement Website or may be obtained by calling the Settlement Administrator.

so I can get up to $65 if I simply claim that I knew the fat PS3 used to have Other OS functionality? I don't even need to have used the thing?

my word Vlado has finally earned his keep because I remember him whining incessantly for several days after they pulled its functionality

I read the books and liked them a good bit, although Katniss could be a pretty frustrating protagonist at times.

Watched the first movie and didn't dig it because it feels like they omitted a bunch of information from the book that would've been helpful to a viewing audience (I mean, I know every adaptation does this but it felt more noticeable here). Didn't watch the others.

abridged bloodborne update: more bosses down. The One Reborn, Celestial Emissary, Ebrietas, and Micolash. Ebrietas was definitely the toughest/most annoying one of the bunch, and in general at least in a decent while. Exhausted my stock of vials dying repeatedly, so I leveled a bit while I restocked on them by running a partial loop of Forbidden Woods a few times. Came back and won.

Then I decided that since the game keeps giving them to me but otherwise has done nothing with them I checked out those Chalice things. Worked on the first one you get and got to Depth 3. Rom must have heard me talking **** earlier because yo he was a lot harder here. Got him on what I was going to consider my last attempt for the day when I went full YOLO on him. Even though it caused him to warp twice in a row and spawn two more swarms of little spiders at once. Super fun fight still. Blood-letting Beast got me though, and that's where I stopped. Gonna need more vials before I try some more.

Also think I'll try to pick up the DLC and give that a try. Oh, and somewhere along the line I switched my main weapon from the Threaded Cane to Blades of Mercy because they're so fun. Threaded Cane is my backup and still sees some use from time-to-time, or on certain enemies where it seems more effective for me.

ebrietas is a very difficult boss in terms of mechanics, yeah, and it's probably one of the first ones you've faced in a while that you can be sure you were at an appropriate level/gear range. especially if you hadn't even started doing chalice dungeons yet... your blood gem situation was probably very crappy.

as for your comments on chalice rom; indeed, if you ever felt like a boss was too easy for you then you really don't need to look much further than the chalice dungeons. you will fight more appropriately leveled version of some bosses for endgame content, and often times in situations that removes a vital and easy to exploit weakness. such as being trapped in a small room with Rom with only a few sources of cover instead of having near infinite space to run around. this allows you to battle them on a more fair 1 v 1 playing field where it's just your skill vs rom's mechanics, and it leaves less room for you to have stats that are so high you make the fight more trivial than its supposed to be.

I highly recommend the DLC! it's definitely one of the better sections of the entire game and it's appropriately leveled for +9/+10 gear with mid to high levels. so basically you can start doing it as you approach the endgame and it's not going to feel "too easy." if anything, I'd say it's harder than any content in the entire base game. since you're using a guide I assume you know that you're pretty much near the end now and I will say most of what you have left is fairly easy, while the DLC is actually super difficult and very dense. you'll probably add hours and hours to your playtime rather than finishing up very soon.

as for chalice dungeons I always felt it worked to go back and forth between them while clearing the main game. a lot of players just never bother with them or wait a very long time, making the depth 1 and 2 chalices a breeze. this makes them way less fun because you basically just walk through unchallenged until depth 3 or maybe depth 4. but honestly another thing to consider is how many vials and QS bullets you pick up just by exploring chalices. one complaint about the game is that people don't like grinding for blood vials, but those same people also complain about the chalice dungeons... like if they just played through the dungeons at a natural place they'd have tons of extra vials. and the chalices would feel less boring and repetitive if they explored them at a natural pace while leveling up instead of waiting to do a bunch of easy dungeons all at once.

lastly... some enemies are super weak to thrusting damage, so yeah. the threaded cane will be very good in certain situations when you need its powerful R2 attack in base form. it's also a great arcane conversion weapon although I will assume your build is not set up for that. blades of mercy is top tier in terms of base game skill weapons because it has insane scaling and it has built in bonus arcane damage. since it has a fast attack rate and you'll be hitting many times with it, this bonus damage adds up quickly and can give you some serious overall DPS.

Yeah, the fast attack rate is what drew me to it. My weapon choices haven't exactly been mechanics-based. >_>

I picked Threaded Cane because it seemed by far the coolest, especially the whip sword form (even though I generally kept it in the base form) and Blades of Mercy's appeal to me was the dual-wield form and lightning fast attack rate. And yes, Threaded Cane's Base Form R2 attack is generally what I now use it for when I switch to it. That definitely still has utility for me in certain situations.

I've never really liked using the blades of mercy that much personally. I think the fast attacking dual wield style just isn't my type at all. though I know many people who have loved the weapon so it's clearly good if that is your thing. plus like I mentioned it's mechanically in the top tier. obviously it can't be a bad choice, especially if you're using it because you like it and it's more fun for you.

all this being said the DLC adds a bunch of new weapons and almost all of the DLC weapons are really, really fun to use. so yeah keep an open mind once you start exploring and finding some new gear! coincidentally the DLC also has a good amount of upgrade materials littering the area if you spend the time to explore. this means you'll be able to upgrade an extra weapon or two without much trouble.

I suppose I could give another Hyperion update since I listened to a lot at work today. Finished up through the third and fourth character's stories. The third one was pretty good, especially stylistically, but I thought the fourth was the best so far. I wasn't expecting to be so taken in by it considering the one telling the story had been so unassuming up to that point.

also I'm realizing that Hyperion is basically The Canterbury Tales in space (and presumably finished)
