Got an SNES Classic yesterday and played through route 1 of Star Fox to unlock Star Fox 2.

SF1 is kind of just a mess of pixels and I had forgotten how bad the framerate is. Its also a lot easier than I remembered, I didnt even come close to losing a life until the venom surface and the only one I lost there was because Im an idiot and flipped the directional doors wrong.

Life is Strange Progress: I am now at what I presume to be very close to the end of Episode 2 as I have all the trophy photos. Everyone just bailed on class to head to the dorms.

Still liking the game, or more precisely, its format/gimmicks. However, this was not a good chapter for Chloe. Uh... let's see if I remember the big decisions. Think the first was talking to Kate. Told her to report Nathan too. While I can see the backfire potential Max mentions in the other path, it should be better to get these things on the record. Also, with her mentioning she'd also report him to the principal maybe that guy will realize there's a pattern here. (Note from the future: nope.)

At the diner I had Max answer Kate's phone call. This was essentially the beginning of Chloe being a jerk. While I feel like Max could have helped by explaining that there's a serious situation going on here, I almost feel like Chloe might not care still. As Max points out in her journal about this choice, Chloe needs to realize Max can have more than one friend. I will note that Joyce being semi-defensive of David hitting Chloe is... not good.

At Chloe's junkyard (oh god trying to examine everything here) when they got threatened, Max did not shoot. Aside from this being the obvious IC decision IMO, honestly given the alternate path it really does kinda seem for the best. I mean, no need to needlessly antagonize the guy.

This wasn't framed as a major decision, but I saved Chloe by using the fuse box to unlock the lever. I noticed on my way back after getting the tools that I could have tried to roll some stuff down to hit the jammed lever. Not sure if that was a solution, and if so, what it'd have done. I could see some pretty twisted bad ends, like it landing on the tracks and messing with the train.

Let's see other thoughts: yo jefferson with the heel turn here. I started by telling him stuff but when he turned on Kate in the conversation I decided to have Max basically tell him almost nothing. Weirdly, when she does tell him stuff, that issue with the photo that I should totally still have since inventory persists came up and the butterfly symbol showed. Not sure if that's because I had Max tell him she saw this, or the fact that I didn't have the photo automatically sets me on a path of "didn't take one" where there could have been a "say you have a picture" choice there. But I mean the butterfly doesn't show if you just evade that topic like I ultimately did so I dunno.

Anyway, yeah, Chloe is kind of a jerk. Yes, I've essentially had Max not help her on these major decisions, but each time it's been reasonable IMO and even Max has been calling her out (in the journal or even directly towards the end) for trying to make her feel like crap for it. She might have backed off since Max saved her again but we'll see. I don't hate Chloe or anything, I feel I kind of get her character, but man she is not being very likable.

also brooke being jealous of max over warren and max not getting it is hilarious. brooke is okay by me.

Also, the song Max can play in her room at the start of Episode 2 was cool. i wish i could play it more. =(

You can feel free to skip this post if you want or come back to it later. I won't spoil anything you don't already know but you might not want outside influence on your opinions while you're playing, I dunno. I could probably talk forever about nuances to Chloe's character that I've noticed so I want to post a few things.

Regarding her reaction to Kate's phone call, I think it's important to consider her history with Max. Max moved away for years and never contacted her even though Chloe's father had just died, and then Max moved back for two months and still didn't contact her. Then Chloe, without knowing anything about Kate's situation, sees Max taking a seemingly trivial phone call. Naturally it reawakens that old resentment.

I do feel that this is a bit of a writing misstep because what teen in this day and age would be offended by a friend answering their cell phone, but at the same time I can see why Chloe would get bratty about it. Another thing I've always found interesting about that scene is how Chloe says something like "Fine, there are plenty of other people I can hang out with" but if you think about it, there really isn't. Rachel is missing and there isn't anyone else. Poor girl is lonely and when she's confronted by a problem her personality defaults to lashing out.

With all of that said, though, I think it's fair to find Chloe unlikable. I'm glad you at least feel like you understand her character. That's the far more important thing, especially as you continue playing.

No, I get that Chloe sees Max answering a call from another friend and it pokes at the hurt she feels over Max cutting contact with her. She even points that out to try and guilt Max into not answering. Like I said, I feel I generally understand where she's coming from usually. When I say Chloe is being rather unlikable with these episodes, that isn't a criticism. I'm fine with characters being unlikable, sometimes it makes sense that they'd act in those ways. Sometimes, it makes them more interesting.

I think Chloe goes too far in trying to guilt/put Max down with it, and that's what I find unlikable, but it is who she is, and the game takes note of it - like I said at first Max points this out in her journal, and later upgrades to calling Chloe out on it, so I'm good with it and her.

tl;dr: I'm finding Chloe's selfishness unlikable, but I think her actions are consistent with her character and "make sense" for her. It's also not all there is to her anyway.

Man, I've been flying through this fifth Hyouka book because it's been so good. I think I'm approaching the climax since Hotaro has begun to solve the overarching mystery of the story. I need to go to bed though so I'll have to put aside my Chitanda-esque curiosity and save it for tomorrow.

Finally got around to starting Kirby Star Allies. Finished the first world, and it's pretty fun! I mean, it's not much different from any Kirby game I've ever played, so you know what you're getting into if you've played one before. The fact that you can have up to three allies is pretty cool, and being able to "share" powers among them is a neat idea.

Also, one good thing I'll say that I already appreciate about Kirby Star Allies is that the ally AI is really smart. If there's ever a situation where an ally's special ability is needed, it usually recognizes it right away and performs the action without needing to be prompted.

Okay, finished with the ReLIFE OVAs. As I expected, they omit a lot of details or just barely touch on them, and they even rearranged some things to help with the flow of the story. It does a good job of highlighting the major events, but it's almost like an alternate retelling of the same events in some ways. It's still good (and Chizuru is still great), but if you're a fan of the anime, I would absolutely recommend reading the manga at some point, especially if you're a fan of Arata or Chizuru, because they're even better there.

And I'm also finished with the fifth Hyouka (although I guess it'd be more accurate to call it the Classic Lit Club series since "Hyouka" is simply the title of the first one) book. That was a really well done story and very different from any of the previous ones. I guess I can't really discuss any specifics since I imagine nobody here has read it or anything, but it'd probably qualify as my second favorite "major arc" behind only the original Hyouka arc. Quickly glancing at the table of contents for the sixth (and thus far final) book, it looks like it's a compilation of short stories instead of one single arc, which was what the fourth book also did.

I don't know if the series is finished or if this book ends definitively in some way. After all, there was a six year gap between the fifth and sixth books. I guess it has more similarities to Haruhi than I initially realized!

of course the problem is now we're approaching seven years since the last Haruhi Suzumiya novel but there's always hope...!

Finished up with the second world in Kirby Star Allies. Still pretty fun! Really liked the boss at the end of this one. It was pretty crazy (although I still beat it without dying because come on this is a Kirby game).

World three complete in Kirby Star Allies! That was definitely the best one so far. Lots of cool stuff there, and I enjoy the combo abilities, which they employed to great effect in the last stage.

Life is Strange: Finished Episode 2 since I really was at the end, then finished Episode 3 too. Stopped there.

So this might end up being a sizable update, let's see...

I was able to save Kate, so that was good. One imagines that could have gone rather poorly if I had made different decisions earlier. When the Principal called everyone for the meeting, Max blamed Nathan and I finally got my vindication for reporting Nathan earlier. rekt. Looking at the other options seems like David they just went "lol no proof" and Jefferson was almost comical in that he was all "oh noez my contest" like that's even really a punishment in comparison to what happened. So this seems to have worked out well.

Onto Episode 3. The dorm at night was cool with the phone light.

max's plant died. i am a monster.

I saw the message from her mom at the start of Episode 2 with the warning about overwatering and while I briefly considered that was a warning I also thought... like... Max would... ration it... or... something...

Anyway, Max and Chloe start Metal Gear Solid and leave me wondering if you could actually find the keys because I intentionally examined things I thought would not be it so I could examine everything and then got punted into getting Warren's help with an inability to rewind back. Oh well. Once inside we find the ~real~ records and dammit the principal totally knew we were right given that history god. We also tell Chloe she can't just steal money. because we're the good guys. For the School Escape we stealth'd out although I'm not sure you'd be allowed to fail this. It didn't show up on the episode choice report at the end at least.

Back at Chloe's house she hits on Max who turns her down too. tbqh, that is not what Chloe needs right now. Max erased the answering machine for her so she can't say Max has done nothing for her. Well, she can, because she wouldn't know that, but I know it. Also because it wouldn't be hard to connect the dots to Max having been there too. ninjas you see. When Chloe and David got into their fight I initially sided with Chloe because David has kind of been a jerk the whole time. But that sure escalated quickly and I felt bad that the decision basically destroyed their family. Also, based on David's files I think he's legit - just super paranoid. So I switched to siding with David.

Got the RV keys by talking about dogs because dogs are the best. Not sure what the other options would lead to. Also made sure Frank's dog was okay because the alternative was horrifying and the worst choice ever. god. Found our stolen weapon in the RV but left it because tbqh at this point I almost trust Frank with it more than Chloe. (Ensuing events would seem to justify this somewhat.) If there had been an option for Max to take it and not tell Chloe I may have gone with that just to get it away from both of them. And had Chloe seen that Max saw it I probably would have had Max cave but that's not how it all went down.

anyway chloe is still mad at us because what else is new and then we jumped back 5 years somehow. Saved Chloe's dad by throwing the keys out the window. imagine my surprise when my master cereal box plan had been thwarted just before.

Then Max's time power defied reason again and we jumped back 5 years to the present. max better investigate why we just skipped all that inexplicably. and now we're in the vortex club somehow which makes even less sense. and apparently never visited chloe's family based on what william said. which is the least sense. is auto-pilot max just a jerk too?

So, yeah, that all happened. Also, I find myself feeling bad/kinda sick at the choices and "what ifs." I can't even single out an individual choice for that or anything. On one hand, that's generally a "good" sign in that it mans I'm connecting to the characters/plot/setting on an emotional level. On the other, don't want it getting out of hand.

Or maybe it just coincidentally happened that I would feel like crap like I oft do and I'm attributing it wrongly.
