Chrom does look like he has Roy's moveset except for the Up+B. So Echo fighters can differentiate a bit more from the fighter they're based on.

Echo fighters don't have 'spots'. Normal fighters don't have 'spots' either. Another character isn't added if you remove another one - that's a gross simplification of how game development works.

Even if that were true, Chrom probably took the least resources to put in out of anything in the entire game. Smash 4 model (touched up) + Roy's Base + Ike's Aether + minor animation adjustments = done.

Alright, let's just hold off for a moment. Who from another series that only has one person should get an echo fighter then? Someone of those games I don't think are as open to clones. I don't think Snake and Cloud would count because they would require additional permissions from another company. Sonic is probably included in that but to a lesser extent.

Dark Samus floats/flies in her idle & run animations, which took more resources than anything Chrom has. As far as we know the only difference between him and Roy is the Aether, but they just rip that from Ike.

Granted this is splitting hairs because both of these characters took about as much resources to include as a random Pokemon from a Pokeball.

alright my phrasing of the word spot was a hard trigger word I probably shouldn't have used, I feel you on that

But regardless of phrasing there's only so much stuff they can put in and work on, and just it being a THING means that much less likely for another echo character being used for representation for another series. Granted like you said it's less so than a whole NEW character, but you don't think they might be thinking "alright well we have THIS many characters already, we told them there aren't gonna be too many new ones, we can see what works and what doesn't but we might want to start focusing on other things once we hit this approximate number" Echo or not, I'm sure they want some sort of soft cap on the amount of echo characters too

I just would have liked to see more spread representation is all. But at the end of the day this is a business and Fire Emblem is the hot shit now so I get it, I was just saying personally.

I don't think they're aiming for a set number of Echo Fighters. 'Echo Fighters' basically amounts to 'characters that are popular but we're hesitant to include because they would be too similar to existing characters, and people get really upsets about clones, oh wait, let's just rename clones to Echo Fighters and call it a day'. It's going to be on a case-by-case basis, based on what popular characters that are possible to include with very little dev time needed.

Actually, I'm not sure what other Echo Fighters there could be. Ken?
