Last time we did 128 was 2010, and 7/9 were 1-seeds. Mega Man was a 3-seed and Crono was a 4-seed, so that looks pretty based on noms to me rather than just putting the N9 at the top arbitrarily.

For the record, the other 1-seed was Sora.

I mean, Cecil is probably the strongest character who has been in multiple contests and never won a match (I'd take him over Protoman), so it's bound to happen eventually.

He had a match tailor-made for him to win in CBIX and he still blew it. Protoman hasn't ever been put in a situation where he's been favored to win.

I guess his point is, Vader's an extremely popular video game character who drew thousands of new users (who would never have followed the Contest otherwise) to the site to support him, significantly boosting traffic. We can't have that happening again; gotta ban 'em all!

For real though, I love traditional Contests more than anyone and if SB's actually got anti-rally measures in place to ensure a bracket decided by GameFAQs users for the first time in eight years*, awesome! That seems so unlikely though- someone from Undertale or League or Overwatch or Fortnite or Doki Doki is going to catch fire and bust 90% of our brackets. It would have been more fun to at least have someone like Vader or Spidey in that division to potentially counter them with the force of the entire internet, as happened in the Gamespot bracket he mentioned.

I agree, when All Fictional arrives it should be clear from the outset, so we can blow things out and rally in a good mix of the most interesting non-traditional options along with all our usual suspects.

That being said I would also have been fine with having Spider-Man in this bracket as a "soft launch" for the concept. Maybe he doesn't get any significant offsite rallies but still beats Guile and Luigi before bowing out with 45% on Snake. It wouldn't turn the bracket upside down but we'd have established a baseline, so next time around we could debate if Vader or Goku or Batman might be even stronger. If so, might Mario or even Link be in danger?

I don't think League or Undertale is likely. Undertale was never as big as Draven and seemed kind of like a novelty, and League has significantly died down. But I could definitely see someone from Overwatch or Fortnight taking this thing.

Rivalries - Conker/Great Mighty Poo
Characters 2013 - Rinoa
Games 2015 - The Beatles Rock Band
Characters 2018 - Kate

Only one of those was as a joke and I only got the idea because it was already on the auto-suggest and came up when I tried to do Cole Phelps/Jack Kelso and the little devil inside of me decided to go a different direction. But the rest meant something to me to see in, The Beatles being my favorite band, and Jigglypuff finishing off the Smash 64 roster.

I really think limited amounts of non-original VG characters would be a nice compromise, like one per division. This way the vast amounts of spots are going to actual video game characters, but we expand the amount of viable heavy hitters that could do damage in the later rounds, since we would only bother with the likes of Darth Vader, Spider-Man, Batman, Goku, James Bond, etc. while leaving out stuff like Jane Eyre that nobody even knows what good or memorable video game they are in.

I'd be okay with this but if they're going to restrict it it would have to be REALLY restricted. It would have to be characters that found some sort of new life as a video game character, like Batman representing the Arkham series, or for example James Bond, who was pretty much introduced to an entire generation through a video game as opposed to his original medium. It'd be tough to argue for popular characters who happen to be in video games but are mostly popular because of their original medium.

So far, Chloe and Kate are on the drop down form. Max is not, so we could very well see two LiS characters in the bracket with neither of them being Max.
