Where you at Calwings?

So far, yes. It's definitely Revue Starlight.

T5) SAO Alternative: Gun Gale Online
T5) Pop Team Epic
4) Laid Back Camp
3) Hugtto Precure (still airing)
2) Katana Maidens - Toji No Miko
1) Revue Starlight

There's a small chance that the last cour of Hugtto Precure could push it over the top and take the award. But barring that (or a massive upset from The Girl In Twilight or Release The Spyce in the fall season, which I severely doubt) Revue Starlight is my anime of the year. It was so amazing.

It's so interesting the difference in our lists Cal. Only Yuru Camp overlaps in our potential Top 5.

I love that anime is so varied that in the same year, we can have such different Top 5 anime.

So far, I'd probably say A Place Further Than The Universe, My Hero Academia S3, Overlord S2, Stein's Gate Zero, and after that it gets really hard. Violet Evergarden was wonderful, Wotaku was sweet, as was Gakuen Babysitters.

But honestly I loved Legend of the Galactic Heroes. As a guy who has a Political Science degree (as well as an Education degree), it hit a lot of the notes that just get my attention.

A Place Further Than The Universe

Didn't watch but might in the future, heard great things about it.

My Hero Academia S3

I watched S1 when it started airing on Toonami and kind of liked it, so I might watch the others at some point. Not sure.

Overlord S2

Haven't watched and will never ever watch, too gory for me to handle.

Stein's Gate Zero

Never saw or ever had an interest in the original. Heard it's great, just not my kind of show.

Violet Evergarden

Same as above, heard it was great but it's just not my kind of show. Also, I hate how the main character looks like a Saber clone.

7NcVr1o

Never heard of the others you mentioned.

Yeah, you tend to have a type when it comes to anime.

If I can be totally honest, at first I thought when you talked in these topics you honestly just avoided talking about stuff I really liked because I was relatively new to the string of topics at the time (I only migrated over here from LUE like, a year ago).

Of course at this point I just know that we have entirely different viewing habits and what makes us happy. It's nice when our views coincide however. I think we both really enjoyed Girls' Last Tour (though that might have been a little bleak for your tastes, but I think you liked it).

Huh, I didnt watch much in the past 3 seasons, now that I think about it. Yuru Camp, Ito Junji, Pop Team Epic, Viloet Evergarden, Megalo Box, GGO. Thats all the current year stuff I finished.

Ive watched a few movies too. Chuu2Koi, Mirai, Maquia, Doraemon.

If I had to pick a favorite, probably Violet Evergarden for series, and Maquia for movie.

Nah, I wouldn't do that. Unless someone is being a completely insufferable douche (which you're definitely not) I wouldn't blatantly ignore anyone here like that.

Girls' Last Tour was bleak at times, yes. But it was about finding moments of happiness in that otherwise bleak situation, and it turned out to be a really nice and relaxing slice-of-life show. It was my anime of the year for 2017, barely beating Princess Principal for that spot.

I'd say Megalo Box was my personal favorite, followed by How Not To Summon A Demon King because that was next to the most enjoyable ecchi anime I've watched in a very long time. 3rd might be Middle Manager Tonegawa for being the JP version of The Office. That one had the best episodes but it requires a lot of context and the first few eps are pretty confusing as to what their intent is.

Otherwise the rest is a bit of a blur for me. I quite like the latest Inazuma Eleven series for constantly bordering the lines between a children's show and having a character (the coach obviously) be a literal pimp. I also liked most of Darling in the Franxx though the pacing is bad and the story structure is too cookie cutter Trigger.

But of course my true number one is Joshiochi! because it truly makes you feel like a slutty actress literally falling on somebody's dick. It takes you across the emotional burden of being the guy that has everything falling on his lap. Also, why is this available so freely and not locked away in some hentai dungeon? For all those reasons this is my real number 1 baby.

Oh, but I guess as to why Megalo Box was my favorite, stylistically it was ahead of all the other animes this year. It went for that old style but never felt old. The story was very grounded with a cast of relateable characters on both sides of the feud that all go through big character developments. By the end of it, so much has been sacrificed, but you still feel very hopeful about what's to come for all of the characters. Even the scheming brother gets quite a bit of sympathy after basically using hax. It's sort of the way they pull this off, like the last punch between the match between him and Joe saying so much about each of the characters and the respect that they give to each other colliding in an explosive finish. It's a perfect blend of cool story telling, amazing style, and visual. There's nothing more you can ask of an anime. Also it's one of those rare animes that have a start and a finish in a single season. I just don't see that often enough anymore, especially in LN or manga adaptations where the purpose is to sell more LNs and mangas

Megalo Box is a close second (or even a tie) for my favorite, really. The drama and art style were spot on. And I especially appreciate the direction they take with the story, and how they end it nicely without trying to drag it on.

And speaking of Inazuma Eleven, I should be fine going straight to Ares, right? I might check it out after "catching up" on Yokai Watch (pretty much gonna watch just movies 3 and 4 then go straight to Shadowside).

It should be fine, but you'll miss a lot of context. I think watching the original series up to the end of the Alien arc and then moving onto Ares is pretty ideal. Because this is an alternate universe where the Alien arc never happened, so the original cast didn't go through the insane training they did in the original series. So Japan got beat up badly internationally, and the soccer association made a program to split the original team up to train every other team so that the skill level of Japan rises as a whole.

This results in a bunch of new teams with a member of the original team that defines what that team does. If you don't know the character's history, personality, and playstyle, then some of the nods to the original series will be lost on you. But eh Ares is not bad as a standalone series because it focuses an entirely new team.

Personally though, I love Inazuma Eleven Go the best. Chrono Stone was like this very bizarre but strangely well written time travel story with a lot of surprising underlying drama and good individual stories. IE has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Shounens that take themselves too seriously just isn't it for me anymore. Kid shows with nods to adult viewers have always been the way to go for me

Hmm, cool. I was planning to go straight to Ares since it's an alternate universe and not too long, but from the looks of it, I might check the original series first. A shame that the 3DS is region locked though, what with the GO games never making it to the US.

And when it comes to kid shows, I'm fine with them as long as they're fun, really. I've been watching Doraemon when it comes on TV over here, so there's that.

Speaking of shounen stuff, Black Clover just stuck with me very well for some reason. It's like a modern approach to classic shonen formula, meaning a whole lot more consistent and well-planned. Same goes for My Hero Academia. Some of the Monster Hunter LNs count too, I guess. Style varies between volumes and series, but the more shounen-like ones (Yuuki Rin V2, Tamashii V3, Flash Hunter V4) tend to be my top picks.
I didn't particularly like shounen stuff before, but some of them just seem to stick with me very well recently.

Soul Calibur 6 is really good, especially the character creation mode. I finished my first character that I wanted to create, and I'm proud of how she turned out:

FKKN0Gb

The game also allows you to upload creations online and see/download those made by other people, so I also found and downloaded these:

PHVIsXP
6ldYBrT
c4EhOU5
D1koJSA
CkTJla5
1R5X5Bo

The game won't let you download any character that has an equipment part that you haven't unlocked, so that means that all of these were made with the default parts you get at the beginning of the game, which just makes it even more impressive.

So that means not everyone can use my Tira-based characters? good.

People can only download them from you if you decide to upload them, and only if they have all of the equipment parts used in the design unlocked. I don't know if people who didn't get the season pass (and Tira with it) can download characters that use Tira's style since I've yet to try to do so myself, but it's possible that they can just download the character and pick a different style for them to use. EDIT: Nope, told me I couldn't download a Tira because I don't have the fighting style unlocked.

The "optimistic, energetic genki dork" is by far the most common variety of pink Cure, with more than half of the leading pinks (including Emily/Miyuki and Hana) falling in this category. There's the occasional "hopeless romantic straight out of a shoujo anime" (Nozomi from Yes 5, Hibiki from Suite), the occasional "athletic, determined tomboy" (Nagisa from the original Futari Wa Pretty Cure, Saki from Splash Star), and one single "shy girl getting pulled out of her shell" (Tsubomi from Heartcatch), but most of them are genki dorks.

Enjoy the show, Hugtto has been amazing so far. The fights in episodes 4 and 16/17 and the story arc in 18-22 have been among the most special highlights.
