Alright, finished the main story of Yokai Watch 1. Pretty short and sweet, this game.

I find the battle system to be a lot better than what the demo shows, mostly because I get to build my own teams. Still want to try out the grid-based system of YW3 though.

Story is mostly episodic and structured kinda like a 12-episode anime season, which is pretty cool. Also enjoyed playing as Fumika and seeing Keita as a background character. The minor differences in dialogue (from my experience with the anime and manga) gives the story a different feel. That and Whisper shipping Fumika with pretty much everyone...

I also liked in-game world, all things considered. The main city and dungeons look nice, and the building interiors are very detailed. A bit of a hassle to get around for sidequests though, since the waypoints only show for main story missions. The Yokai World is also tad bit disappointing since the section doesnt last long at all, but its supposedly expanded greatly in the later games, so at this point its not really a big deal.

Ill probably get myself a copy of Psychic Specters soon, and YW3 when it comes out next year.
Will probably import YW4 as well if I end up liking the Shadow Side and Forever Friends movies.

Yeah I haven't played it myself, but I like the way Yokai Watch does a lot of things compared to Pokemon, though I don't think it can ever get quite as deep in the meta or long lasting as Pokemon to be honest, since this is Level-5 we're talking about.

Eh, gonna be pretty hard for anything new to last long these days, really. Especially when it's a franchise with heavy merchandising. YW doesn't have much of an international presence either. It'll probably stay a while though, just not as big as it was 2-3 years ago.

It's a shame though, since YW1 really did a lot of things right, and I can see myself liking 2 and 3 even more. I especially appreciate the details they put in the environment. I enjoyed the anime (watched about half of the first season) and the movies, too.

As for Pokemon, I guess it's a "wait and see" situation for me. The recent anime and movies are nice, but I'm not too hot on the games right now.

Hmm, it's always possible. Gonna depend on YW4 and the new anime perform, I guess.
Which reminds me... don't they also have another mecha franchise coming up? That one kinda went silent after the reveal.

And really, Pokemon is likely not gonna be taken over any time soon. It's too prominent of a franchise at this point.

I've still got a ways to go, but Nurse Love Addiction is the greatest Yuri VN I've read so far.

Say what you want about the anime, but the video games, Pokemon easily outsells it.

Everything Yokai Watch on the 3DS combined has sold 14.22 million copies. Just Sun and Moon sold over 15 million copies, with US/UM adding another 6.57. In less titles overall compared to Yokai Watch.

I'll never like BW because of the pokedex. Gen 5 had a lot of awful Pokemon for me and you were stuck with them until postgame unless you traded, which I never do during my first playthrough.

I disagree. I loved most of the new Pokemon, and I loved that it kept it down to mostly new guys. Made you have to try something different. It was great.

DP was a disappointment for me when I was at the absolute peak of my Pokemon fandom. Also most people like to underestimate 3rd gen, but it had the best environments, the best music, the best Pokemon line up, and I do have a personal attachment to it due to it being one of the few Pokemon games that I absolutely 100%'d. And overall, it was actually a world that one would think Pokemon lives in. None of that you spend 80% of the game in urban settings bullcrap. You're just surrounded by nature and the weather and the berries. Sun and Moon came close, but 3rd gen was when they really focused the nature aspect of the game and nothing much else.

Well Pokemon is still huge in Japan, but at one point Yokai Watch was the new Pokemon for a year or two. From what I hear, it's sorta evened out, but Japan has been a Level-5 product nut in general. Compared to that, Yokai Watch hasn't quite exploded here like Level-5 wanted. It also seems like Nintendo wants to compete against them a little, when in the initial phases of the 3DS, they were acting like best buds

Platinum made things a bit better, like the speed of the game and such, but then the other problems with the region became more glaring instead. But yeah Heartgold and Soulsilver were absolutely amazing

The remake Pokemon titles have been my favorites, really. HGSS was awesome, and I liked Gen 3 a lot in general, so ORAS is also given, even if it's not particularly impressive for its time.

And for Sun&Moon, I actually liked its art style and music quite a lot. Having full-scale human models and ditching grid-based movement are steps in the direction I like, too. But it's got a lot of underdeveloped features, and I haven't even played Ultra yet because I don't feel like going through mostly the same story again. It's not bad per se, but a good part of it is paced too slowly for my liking.

The only one I've never played is Gen 2, but I don't think I'll be missing much.

Sun/Moon was ok... like barn said it had a lot of positives, but it also had a lot of negatives i didn't like, ill probably wait and see how the next pokemon game is, but as it stands i think i'm pretty much done with the series until they embrace some sort of semi-open world system with the stuff walking around

At first you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention. Let me know what other crazy stuff happens in the next couple of episodes (the simuldub doesn't premiere until the 28th, and by then the subbed version will have aired four episodes) and maybe I'll consider it once the dub comes out.

In that same episode, the one zombie girl's head goes "pop" with a hilarious popping sound off into the audience and lands on this old man's shoulder who just feeds her head that is nomming on his arm like it's a completely normal thing to be happening. It'd be easier to list what isn't absolutely insane in this show.

I know you have an aversion to gore, but it is done extremely cheesily. Remember when kazuma played soccer with the dullahan's head in konosuba? It was like that.

You might be right. If the hilarity of the scene overcomes my aversion to gore, like when *Kill La Kill spoilers* Nui got disarmed, then I should be okay. But if I watch the show, you still have to warn me about moments like these in advance.
