I started on that Mom isekai a while back. There's not many chapters yet though.

I really hate it when a series gets an inconclusive/rushed ending. I've been reading High Rise Invasion and it's really good, but the ending leaves a lot to be be desired. It just drops off directly after the climax and gives no closure at all.

Started playing Shining Resonance Refrain.

It's... okay.

It's your typical anime/waifu dating sim/jrpg, but it's been a while since I played one of those, so I actually find myself enjoying it. The combat is pretty good, and seeing as I'm still on the first chapter I can see the potential for it becoming deeper.

It's feels pretty low-budget with most of the story scenes so far consisting of VN style two characters on screen talking and emoting. The english VA is surprisingly decent though. The mook/npc/grunt voices are pretty phoned in, but the main cast is pretty good. Environments look nice, and the music is okay.

Definitely not worth $40 considering Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition costs the same and is a way better game overall. Luckily I got the game on clearance so I only paid like 18 bucks for it. :)

Oddly enough, the only dating sim-like games I've played are Persona 4, and True Love '95 (good stuff).

An anime music trivia panel at the convention a couple weeks ago got me in the mood to watch Kare Kano again, so I'm on that. Hopefully I'll finish it this time. Also started Croise in a Foreign Labyrinth and DBS season 4.

I have Three Houses hooked to my veins, I swear. I will be surprised if this does not end up being my favorite game in the series (... next to Blazing Blade) when all is said and done. On vacation from work this week so I can play it all the way through at least once. (Doing the Blue Lions route first, BTW.)

Shining Resonance Refrain has, unfortunately, been on my shelf since launch. The special edition case is lovely, but other games have been taking priority.

keyblader1985 posted...

Play P3P first, IMO, since it is basically P3 updated for P4 mechanics. If you play P5 first, all of the quality-of-life improvements will make going back to the older games a little difficult.

I'm thinking about getting three houses. It does look fun and like it has a lot more replay value than the average fire emblem. It also doesn't have the children mechanic from what I can tell which I hated because I felt I had to make the best children and that was tedious to figure out.

Finally got sucked into watching Kengan Ashura. iirc, I had seen it pop up in my NFI feed to some extent quite a few times (unless I'm thinking of another bloody fighting anime?) but it didn't sound interesting. This time it was on my tv so it did a preview or something.

The animation is absolute shit, but some of the fighting looks badass. The story and dialogue (other than that wrestling guy, he was fucking awesome) is kinda whatever. The kinda intriguing thing is the opening sequence which shows the old guy fighting (kinda overlaid with the hero Ohma). It'd be kinda baller if the salaryman becomes a fighter but I doubt that's going to happen. His personal life is revealed to be a mess early on (older son is a NEET with that... anxiety syndrome or whatever the protagonist from Welcome to the NHK had, his younger son is a dropout/delinquent, and his wife left him) so I expect all of that shit to play into the story eventually.

The one thing I did notice that they had an after-the-credits scene, something I imagine I would have flat-out missed if just watching on my computer. I sometimes wonder how many anime and other shows also do that annoying thing.

...ugh, just realized Kenshin Ashura is only 12 episodes long and only covers a tiny portion of the story. On the 12th episode now. The whole thing has been a lot more fun than I expected and the animation kinda works for the fight scenes.

Apparently it can't be the fighting anime I was thinking of either because the wiki lists it as having been released on July 31st.

Yes, that looks like the one. I noticed it while looking through my recommendations later the same night. It doesn't look that bad but, since the preview was subbed, I'm assuming it's sub-only and I feel more like sticking to dubs at the moment.

After finding that on the list, I started watching a non-anme (Glitch) which, rather annoyingly, apparently only has 12 episodes out right and is still an ongoing show. Basically I'm in the same boat as I am with Kengan Ashura... or technically worse because Kengan Ashura's manga is available (and I totally spoiled something major about the ending; I just wanted to know what happened with the old man so I read the last chapter and it took me a little while to figure out that (massive spoilers) Ohma died following the final match of the tournament (which apparently he also lost?). That's something of a downer.)

This season of Danmachi is moving fast. Which pisses off the light novel fans. Which amuses me. *cackles* I swear, the "light novels are better" snobbery in places like the Crunchyroll forums is almost as bad as the "you're only a real Fate fan if you've played the VN" snobbery.

Also: If you're playing the Memoria Freese mobile game, the new summer event is up until the end of the month, and it's pleasantly full of cheesecake, almost all of it for unexpected characters (Demeter, Naza, Riveria, etc.). Kind of a rare sight in today's fandom environment. :-P

They made it more skill based. Well really graces f did. Also since you can't die while empowered as velvet you can just chain combos together off being knocked out of it so you are perma invincible against most enemies. I did find it pretty fun after a decent way into the game. Still wish sidestepping went back to graces f levels cause that was fun.

Bought 3 new Switch games today!

Super Mario Odyssey
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (with Season Pass)

I wasn't really feeling Shining Resonance Refrain, so that's on hold for now. As for Hyrule Warriors, it's my new Monster Hunter, where I just pop in for like an hour and chip away at the adventure maps little by little.

I'm gonna move on to Mario Odyssey as my main game next.

The Play Store alerted me to the existence of a new Nintendo mobile game called Pokmon Masters, releasing August 29. Judging from the roster, it almost looks like the Fire Emblem Heroes of the Pokverse (i.e. involving Trainers, Gym Leaders, etc. from several different games). Might have to give it a try ... if my phone will be able to run it.

The Ys series is one of the great stalwarts of action-RPGs. Enjoy it ... and hope that NISA patched up the translation. I miss the days of XSEED handling localization for that series. NISA occasionally does good work, but they are not up to the high standards XSEED set.

Also: Look at those trailers for Ys IX if you get a chance. I want. Very much.

XC2 is one of those I have not played yet, since I am still relatively new to the Switch (and the games generally do not drop in price), but it seems to be a magnet for controversy.

I got worried when you mentioned that and did some digging.

Looks like NISA really is just a low-budget localization company after all the stuff I've read.

Luckily it seems like the Switch got some patches to fix it, but I'm still gonna be on the lookout for some potential missteps.

Xenoblade 2 is easily the most "anime" xenoblade game for better or worse. The battle system is great but takes a bit too long to open up. Just realize if you are level 10-15 and thinking "god, this is slow and boring" it actually gets faster and more interesting. It's also IMO most interesting and useful to play as the tank (dodge tank being the most fun). Xenoblade 2 holds up the xenoblade tradition of having the most interesting locations visual design even though the latter half of the game doesn't impress as much as the first half.

The story is pretty solid if somewhat standard jrpg/anime plot but it fails a bit in the last 3rd of the game IMO. I see this happen a lot where they bring down the main character after a story event so they can redeem themselves but they just didn't execute it well here.

The mechanics are a lot of fun, poppi QT is OP as are all the DLC units like fiora and elma. I found the end game challenges to be fairly lacking but the DLC battle arena thing is VERY challenging. The game is also quite long. I'd give it a 9/10. Could have been 10/10 if they had one more cool area and the last 3rd of the story was rewritten to not be dumb.

Also in case it's confusing, golden torna is basically a prequel with it's own save files and mechanics and everything.

I'm hoping to snag FE: 3 houses once I get through this round of medical tests. I'm hoping the time management part doesn't put me off too much. I really hate not being able to do everything and get everything.

I have been TEARING through Mario Odyssey lately. The game is just so much fun to control and move around in. Plus, the constant feeling of progress of getting moon after moon after moon after moon, is just so addicting that I'm already halfway through the game. (I think, I just unlocked the luncheon kingdom)

SO to pace myself and savor the game more (and actually play something that's relevant to the topic), I've started Ys VIII.

First impressions: it immediately hooked me in better than Shining Resonance Refrain. Although I gotta say, the framerate in cutscenes get noticeably choppy. Also, I already noticed two grammatical errors in just the prologue alone. That doesn't bode well.

Still, the combat is fast-paced and snappy, and the framerate is relatively stable in combat even when there's a lot going on. I can tell I'm gonna like this one way more than Shining Resonance.

About to start previewing this season. Already started magical sempai (which I like a lot even though it's dumb) and arifuretta which is enjoyable if you go in expecting isekai trash. The character change between sniveling wimp and badass is very jarring and abrupt for the main guy but thats my only major complaint yet. Gonna check out Dr. Stone soon and the fire force anime as well. I have high hopes for both.

Alright caught up on arifureta and it's ok I guess. The CGI for larger monsters is fucking abysmal, like actually scene ruining. The story is predictable but still enjoyable and the characters are pretty generic but they work ok. Definitely not as good as shield hero which is fairly similar. In this, a lot more random OP bullshit is given to the main character. He just gets more stacked every episode. I'll keep watching it for now and I do still want to see where things go but it's overall pretty mediocre. Will probably watch Dr. Stone next.

Yeah, I'm halfway through chapter 2 and I've found only one other typo, and it's just a missing "to" in a sentence.

So far the localization has been great. No weird sentence structures, no confusing phrases, and no obvious direct-to-english translation of japanese idioms.

Also, wow, I can't seem to put this game down. I'm having a great time just wandering around and fighting baddies and gathering mats.

Yeah I'm honestly really conflicted on whether or not to wait for Dr. Stone to finish. It's got standard shonen pacing so not a ton happens each episode but it feels good to watch a bunch a once. On the other hand I don't wanna wait to find out what happens. After episode 6 ends IS a good place to take a break though so idk. I'm actually really tempted to go read the manga and I hate doing that unless it's in full color. I think the only anime I've done that for so far is made is abyss.

If I wasn't awaiting health test results and scans and super anxious all the time I'd probably wait but I kinda need all the distraction I can get right now.
