Those are some of the first and basically last VNs I played. And I mean actually played through and not just skipped everything for the H-Scenes.

Going to finally start to catch up on some shit because my life has thankfully calmed down a little recently.

Goddammit, another company I liked turns out to be shitty.

That's such a strange thing for them to even do. I almost wonder if it's actually vindictive or just some weird policy from early on they never bothered rethinking. Oh well, if my game development gets off the ground at least it'll be easy to generate goodwill with how all the other companies act.

Yeah, it's a bizarre policy.

T0ffee posted...
You know, it's never really talked about much, but English dubbed OPs were pretty good if done well.

Now, with the boom of anime culture in recent years, it's getting easier and easier to find passionate people who can really put their all into making a dub of an OP sound just as good as the original.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox0lBHmIrWM" data-time="

EDIT: And here's the original for comparison

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYfdanAahVI" data-time="

And I gotta say, I actually kinda like the english one better a little bit! I feel like they have much more energy and enthusiasm in their delivery.

Of course, that might just be because I can actually understand what they're saying.

I find that I prefer most English OPs, although I generally prefer dubs in the first place.

keyblader1985 posted...
Funimation in particular has been known to dub a lot of songs over the years, the quality of which varies. Yu Yu Hakusho songs were top tier; they stay in my music folder on my phone.

I think we discussed this a while ago, but trying to do a half decent song dub is no easy task. Going for a near-direct translation, which I've seen several of my favorite artists do, rarely works. You've got to make sure it sounds natural in English, while also staying true to the spirit of the original lyrics.

This is one of my favorite songs in either English or Japanese; they're basically apples and oranges to me.

Japanese:

English:

I don't like either rendition, but the pacing doesn't sound as weird in the J-version.

I have ignored my MAL account for almost nine years, with the last update being in Oct 2010. I finally got off my arse and updated it with the few sets and movies I managed to find since then. As with everything else I buy, I never got around to using a good chunk of it.
https://myanimelist.net/animelist/DeltaBladeX

Not a huge list, sure, but I keep it for stuff I own on DVD, not just stuff I got from a torrent. Given there hasn't been an official store for this stuff in years down here (EB were scummy and lost distribution rights, then later bought the other store that was selling them leaving only online options), finding anything for my collection is difficult. Second hand stores have the occasional series, but they have been older ones, had no luck finding anything people bought online from Aus after stores stopped carrying anything here.

I really should put on some of the unwatched stuff at some point.

Doing my level best to ignore the Steam Summer Sale.

Also revisiting Konosuba. ... As funny as this is, I am now noticing that it looks a lot like Season 2 of Log Horizon (i.e. the characters are usually off-model, the animation is sloppy, other Deen things). Fortunately, the fanart is much better.

Yeah shield hero is pretty solid. Oh wait, it just finished I think. Time to watch the last few episodes.

It kind of surprises me that we haven't had a leveling progress focused isekai. You'd think that'd be the generic standard but they virtually never put any emphasis on the worlds mechanics and working your way up with them. I think shield hero does as well as it does partially because it does have a lot of down time to world build and character build. I really don't think you need to be the hero and save the world for an isekai to be really fun and I'm kind of disappointed with how little variation there is despite the absurd amount of isekai being released.

Just noticed the steam summer sale myself and snagged fortune summoners for 5 bucks. I liked recettear a lot and the same people chose to translate this. It also has very high reviews and the gameplay looked fun.

Just finished shield hero. Lots of expected and obvious things happened at the end but it was nice so that's not a problem.

I really am wondering though, how exactly did L'arc get to their world. It wasn't during the wave. Can they just come over whenever? Couldn't you just bring all the people from one world over to the other and abandon the other world? Is that what they mean by choosing to save the world or the people? Nah, they probably mean fighting the system behind the waves instead of playing the game. Exactly how I imagine solo leveling ends up. If it were slime, they would just bring everyone over. I miss that show too.

I guess I'll watch isekai quartet and OPM S2. Idk, this was a pretty trash season for me. Demon slayer is fun but it doesn't end till next season.

Was literally coming into this topic to mention that I had been watching Shield Hero s1 and was enjoying it (although not as much as Goblin Slayer)

And I mentioned this in another topic, but it's so weird that Japan does a lot of great Western/European fantasy anime yet the West hasn't done much along those lines despite having a demographic for it. (Granted, as I commented in the other topic, the existence of anime for it might be part of the reason.)

In anime yeah they're rare, but in manga they're literally 80% of the currently releasing manga right now.

There's sooooo many of them. And almost each and every one of them follows the same basic "adventurer's guild" rules (ranking up from F to E requires completing missions), magic system with MP, Skills and Talent systems, Character Classes etc. It gets pretty grating to have to sit through their explanations every time I read a new series.

Plus, they literally come out with new ones every other week. I think I started 5 new isekai mangas just this month. And they ALL have the same leveling/guild/class/party system.

It's getting to the point where I welcome any new "generic" rom/com harems since they're now the rare ones at this point.

Home base was moved from Japan to California because the main titles for PlayStation sell best in the West. Now it's affecting Japanese devs because they're expected to meet certain guidelines for their games or suffer censorship.

I watched isekai quartet. Didn't realize beforehand that it was half length episodes. I think the length kind of hurt it. Felt like they'd spend 90% of an episode setting up a situation and then 10% actually doing funny stuff in that situation. Regardless, it was lighthearted and decently fun. Mostly just to see konosuba cast existing again.

Seeing them all together really reminded me of how lame all the re:zero characters are in comparison. Also nice to see a bit more of tanya the evil but I didn't remember any of the characters from her show outside of tanya herself. I sorta remembered the other girl existing but thats about it.

Poor yunyun.

I think the funniest part was definitely when kazuma realized albedo was a succubus.

Was actually gonna watch OPM S2 but I think it actually has 1 more episode left. Might sample first episodes of some stuff from the new season. I wonder if there have been any surprise hits yet.

Are You Lost? is slice of life, but on a deserted island. (Also called Lost: The Animation by fans.) Cute. Magical Senpai is Ueno-san, but featuring accidents due to failed magic tricks instead of failed inventions. Also cute, but the main girl looks like the main girl from Dagashi Kashi.

Just finished DanMachi sword oritoria. Went in with low expectations and it mildly exceeded them. As people had said, the main character is fucking annoying but at least they made her have a lot of yuri moments and fantasies. The plot itself was pretty interesting even though it started quite slowly. They did a good job with the shared scenes from the original giving loki famila's perspective (and they had access to a lot more information). Not as good as the first season though. Looking forward to S2. I wanna know if bell already hit level 3 off the end of the season 1.

So yeah, apparently we've been warped in some bizzaro timeline where NINTENDO of all people is committed to non-censorship of third-party games.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxOzMbVvFMU" data-time="

tl;dw

Nintendo has stated that they will not impose restrictions or censorship for third party-games on their console, and instead will leave it to each country's ratings boards, and their own built-in parental controls.

Although, they haven't really made it clear what their stance is on games that they themselves published, i.e. first or second party software.

Still, looks like the new place to go if you want non-censored japanese tiddies will be on Switch and PC from now on, and not PS4.

EDIT: Oh right, I also just finished OPM S2. It was about as expected which was pretty solid. Obviously the animation was worse but it wasn't unbearable or anything, just average. Garou was fun. I'm a bit disappointed this was one cour since it pretty much left off halfway through the arc. Still, it's a guess a decent stopping point and it's not on a giant cliffhanger or anything.

Nintendo has been a lot more open about a lot of things recently, a big change from just a few years ago. There's more third party (non-shovelware) support than they've seen in a very long time, and they're basically proving to be Sony's opposite when it comes to censorship.

We saw it coming and called it several months ago; the J-game crowd is going to drop Sony and move to Nintendo. I don't have a single problem with the idea, since Nintendo is my favorite of the console companies anyway.
