Eh, I'd imagine nearly every "culture" has crappy people and bad behavior that gets swept under the rug. I saw a good post on this in another topic that got me thinking - the main difference with these new YouTube/Social Media celebrities is that they don't even have the buffer of a private life to shield them when shit hits the fan. Everything is online and public because their whole lives are online and public.

Of course, he used it as a platform to converse with girls and swap actual nudes, and some of those girls wound up being underage. I have no idea if he knew they were underage.

The story goes that Projared started a "fake" SEND ME NUDES forum on Tumblr, and it was initially condoned by his wife because it was apparently a "body positive safe space" or something. Of course, he used it as a platform to converse with girls and swap actual nudes, and some of those girls wound up being underage. I have no idea if he knew they were underage.

This is the key point here. Did he KNOW they were 16? If not, I can maybe forgive him. Still creepy and weird, but nothing illegal.

...Unless he knew, then he should probably burn.

I've long since stopped caring about YouTube drama and the GG clique, but there was a time I did care and the idea of Projared banging Holly is super gross to me. Made infinitely worse if he really is this much of a creep.

Seems suspect. You get something like that with a warning saying "I'm 16 don't post these publicly" and you do anyway? Do you WANT to go to jail? Something's not adding up there.

If this ends up becoming actionable, it will probably be up to the court to decide whether or not he should have been accountable for knowing if they were underaged or not, because it's extremely irresponsible and an abuse of his popularity.

Ignorance is typically a defense for this and it holds up in court normally when the party is either deceived or they were able to reasonably believe they were 18. I personally think it would be a hard sell for Jared's end to convince a court he reasonably believed they were all 18, because it's not like it's just one or two girls. It was an entire Tumblr and SnapChat channel anyone can join.

This is all from my research of the legal precedence for that defense and I am in no way well-versed in criminal law, but that's what I gleen from this issue.

He is a mega creep either way.

Yeah I really dont enjoy the content put out by a good chunk of gaming youtubers, like the only ones I ended up keeping are the two best friends group and Scott the Woz

YouTube content creators, especially the gaming clique, a lot of them put out a lot of low effort videos that feel very samey

As messed up as it is, him cheating on his wife is actually the least offensive part of this.

I'm kind of disappointed in his ex for not doing anything about this either, and I wonder if they didn't have a nasty break up wherein he blocked her and posted a statement on Twitter if this would ever come out.

I know people protect the ones they love, but it still feels really bad to not do something about this sooner when minors are involved.

I'm glad she said something at least now though. She seems like a good person, just in a horrible position.

Well said, these are good points. I also can't imagine that many of them have any type of PR rep or "handler," further exacerbating the issues.

That is what got me watching dca and I have really enjoyed it. Also why holly and Jared being together isnt really a surprise. But yeah I dont think this would really take down Holly in the same way, though that is up to penny arcade. And how she handles all this.

I'm with Yo on this one. It doesn't excuse the behavior at all but I totally get why people do it.

I mean it's why relationships have that 'honeymoon' period where everything is fantastic. It's the newness. There's a very different dynamic in a longterm relationship compared to when you first start talking to someone. Even if it's only talking and very mild flirting. Like how many texts/pms/whatever do you send when you're newly flirting or dating with someone? Compared to how little you text when you're in a long term relationship. The difference is huge.

I mean what this Projared dude has done is on another level but I can see where the behavior is rooted. Especially when he essentially has a position of power. It's like groupies with bands and the such. Again doesn't excuse it and obviously deserves to go down for this shit.

Sadly this is no different than celebrities of the past either. Technology has made it easier for stuff like this to happen, but people with power and fame have been exploiting their fans since the beginning of celebrities.

I think it's really just addiction to power at that point.

Also relevant, a YouTuber named Austin Jones was recently convicted for doing something similar (although he did not post them on private forums) and he got a 10 year sentence. So Jared is likely going to jail for that long, or potentially longer since I would say his situation is even more aggregious. I totally forgot about this case in my research, but they attempted to say Austin Jones was remorseful and the Judge called bull on that because he understood Jones used his celebrity status to prey on these children and knew it was wrong.

I somehow doubt the remorse argument will work very well either, especially when he kept trying to hide it after being called out by his wife and all the rest of the fuckery of his marriage going to shit and the way he reacted by blocking and making a public statement like that.

The worst part about this is that Jared and Austin Jones are highly likely not the only ones. There's probably a lot more deviants like them in the YouTube world.
