To an extent. Stardust is precious when you start putting together a variety of full teams. It costs almost 70k less dust getting a Pokemon from level 25 to 30 than from <10 to 30, for example, and IVs generally make a pretty minor difference.

Not gonna say that powering up a 98% Espeon as you go along is a bad idea, but the whole cost/benefit thing (not just dust vs IVs, but also the usefulness and rarity of the Pokemon) is definitely something to keep in mind.

Each day you have a chance with each of your best friends to become "lucky" through your first interaction - raiding together, opening a gift, trading pokemon or inviting to an ex raid (those are the interactions, though I can't say for certain the last two can get you lucky - I don't have a reason to think otherwise though). When you become lucky, your next traded pokemon with that person will be a guaranteed lucky (for pokemon that means guaranteed minimum IVs of 12-12-12 and half stardust to level up)

I also wanted to point out that Ive been playing this game on and off since the day it released ~3 years ago and only just got my first shiny this month. Coincidentally, it just so happened to be one of my absolute favorite shinies (which I also still have in Emerald);


I had more than enough candies to evolve him into Sceptile, but Grovyle is just so much cooler (despite his shit CP level) so I just maxed him out. If I hadnt randomly opened Pokemon Go at 1 a.m., I wouldnt have found him.

By the by, how does one tell a dude's level?

Just assuming based on how full the half circle is, or what?

Basically, yeah. If its all the way to the right, its at max CP for your current trainer level. However, Pokemon have different IVs and Pokemon of the same species will have different max CPs based on them. If you hit Appraise on the Pokemons page, the professor will vaguely tell you how good it is and what its best IVs are.

I think I misunderstood people saying Level 30 and whatnot.

They meant trainer level, I thought Pokemon.

Also aside from what the other guy said, anytime you trade there is a chance that both Pokmon become lucky but it's pretty small. It doesn't do much aside from good ivs and as a trophy. I know some people are going for lucky dexes.

If you have less then 10 lucky Pokmon then trading a mon from 2016 guarantees lucky status.

There is a raid with a ~17000 Crawdaunt nearby.

I fortunately used my only raid pass to fuck up another Burmy earlier today, preventing me from making a terrible mistake.

From before, only your best friends have a chance to become lucky, so you wouldn't see any differences in those two. And it's right when you achieve a new friendship level, the notice that comes up when you go back to the main screen and it shows you the XP and new level, there's a similar notice to that. The blue bubble you see indicates an interaction occurred today, the lucky bubbles will be around the person's name and the trade icon (name will also be highlighted)
