This misinformation campaign by the internet has lead me to unfairly criticize a movie that didn't deserve it

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

I look at it as... It was never gonna be as good as the original, so I kinda admire the idea to change it up, and like how intense it is, now.

After watching it, it makes sense to change it this way. The crux of that song relies on the hyenas being silly, semi-comic relief. By making them more sinister, them shaking their butts and going PLAN PLAN PLAN would seem out of place.

I like the ending in this one more specifically because I feel like the hyenas turn is much more clearly foreshadowed from their very first scene with Scar.

Still not as good as the original yeah but I at least get why they had to change Be Prepared. They were never going to be able to top the original anyway so eh.

Yeah, I just got done seeing it and I was pleasantly surprised it was in there, even if it wasn't a full blown presentation.

So is this the Lion King topic then?

Anyway yeah it was pretty good. Obviously not as good as the original but that was expected so it's fine. I liked the little changes and additions, although there wasn't much. I don't understand why they had to stick to being so realistic though, really hurt the emotional connection imo. Timon and Pumba were great, probably the best part, especially the "be our guest" part(that had me laughing really hard).

I feel like you don't really need that. It's a pretty universal trope that dealing with the darkness tends to have it eat you eventually.

But it's a minor quibble. I really like the CG.

i don't mind it being half-sung but it sucked that it was only 10 seconds long and they took a lot of the good stuff out.

and the movie in general was bad. here's my review: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/77535770/925115410

I thought the casting was great except for Beyonce, who clearly cannot act, and Eichner, who was just so much below Lane that he really stuck out.

Also James Earl Jones sounded old but I was fine with that and wouldn't want anyone else in that role anyway.

For me it wasn't just the super lame shortened version of Be Prepared that bothered me, it was that Chiwetel Ejiofor was just so much less menacing and imposing than Jeremy Irons throughout the whole movie. I get that they were trying to add a little nuance to the character but he still does some pretty cartoonishly evil things, so.

Between this and the milquetoast Jafar in Aladdin it seems like they are having trouble with their villains for some reason. Hopefully Ursula at least is done justice.

I thought the same but liked it

Scar was more sympathetic but less menacing for sure but that was great for me. More interesting character

There is a recent trend that villains need to have more depth or be more nuanced characters than just being evil. Then we get stories like Maleficent being nice all along and villains' motivations needing to go beyond their own personality flaws. It can be hit or miss but frankly I don't see what's wrong with someone who is just evil, I find them riveting to watch without the tacked on dark backstories and shit.

The problem is that classic Disney villains in general and those 3 you mentioned most of all were extremely queer-coded in the original animations. For good or ill they seem intent on sucking that out of them in the live-action versions, and while I understand that queerness = evil is generally a bad trope that should be avoided, it's pretty much the only LGBTQ representation in these movies (Timon is really it from what's left) and these characters, *especially* Ursula, are pretty beloved in the community. In the end I think it does add something important to these characters and these movies, and by taking it out and not replacing it with anything else (other interesting character traits for the villains, or positive representation), they are lesser for it.
