So Serenesforest (and 4chan) looked over comparisons of the JP text with the changed line, and theyre no longer assuming this has to do with censorship. Turns out the most likely scenario is that this is an identical situation to the Evangelion redub: that theyre trying to keep the translated dialogue as close as possible to the original text.

You mean the Japanese text, or the part where I mention Evangelion? Cause in the formers case, its explained in the thread, and it means "He would leave me tied to a chair around the clock, all in order to make me a good partner for marriage."

As for the latter part, thats gonna be a loooooong story, but the best I can summarize it right now is this:

When Neon Genesis Evangelion got on Netflix back in June, it had a redone English translation - both sub and dub - and it generally pissed off everybody for being inferior to the old subs and the dub done in the 90s, as well as rewriting a bunch of lines that could qualify as either censorship or unnecessary politicization.

The answer for all this turned out to be that the studio in Japan was leaning HARD on the project, distrusting the ability of the company they contracted to localize it, and was forcing the dialogue to be as faithful as possible to the original Japanese, even if it came at the sake of enjoyability or even coherency. Heck, the reason they had so little trust is because somebody from the studio thought that people having fun watching the Eva Rebuild 3.0 dub at Otakon was actually an indication of the audience HATING the movie.

So basically my fear is that this whole incident with Bernadettas changed line could be a prelude to drastic dialogue changes thatll make the game sound like a Chinese bootleg dub.

Haven't tried it yet but my girlfriend said the mock battle is your squad of level 1s vs. a swarm of level 7+s that you get almost no exp for killing, "lol."

Fishing Tournament protip: once you've got the special fish to finish the quest with, spend the rest of the tournament bait on catching the large blue shadows when they appear; there's a chance they'll be Teutates Loach (sp?) which actually gives some professor level experience unlike the event fishes

idk why they're even in the item pool there, but any opportunity for free exp is a good thing!

Also make sure you catch a normal 5* before the event 5* so you can get all the bonus items from the students.

And of course there are also the magic combat arts that a few units get for Sword, Lance, Axe, and Gauntlets.

The generic magic weapons can all be forged from the steel weapons using Arcane Crystals. Also I just saw there's an Aura Knuckles too which I didn't notice before.

Break all the armor of wolf monsters. So hope you get lucky with them being an auxiliary battle and/or make sure to armor break them whenever they show up in story/paralogue fights.

ok thanks. i get why they implemented the calendar system, but it really feels like they could have done so much more to make it feel like time is actually progressing. as it is, the system just feels like a forced restriction on how much you can do before each story battle

I've generally been ignoring auxiliary battles because I wanted to keep my party members motivated for class by stuffing them all full of food. byleth should be like 400lbs with the amount of food he eats

one thing I never understood was why sometimes a monster's armor would fully recover at the start of a new turn and sometimes it wouldn't

The armor recovers after the monster does its area attack. So if you see it charging and you know you can't break all its shields, just avoid attacking it for that turn.

Alternatively, IIRC, if you're in the - admittedly rare - situation where it's charging but you can pull everyone out of its range, I think it drops the charge attack so the shields don't regen and you buy another turn.

And of course, once you achieve a total armor break they stay down for good.

Because this games paralogue requirements are dumb. They also lock one of the Dragonkin fights behind GD route, and the other behind having both Linhardt and Leonie in Part 2.

Blue Lions beated. 170 hours for all three main routes (no plans to do Church at the moment). Can pretty clearly say Golden Deer > Black Eagles > Blue Lions and Edelgard > Claude >> Dimitri at this point, especially in terms of their political ideologies. It's amusing how Dimitri outright states he's fighting for the present in the Blue Lions final battle, as opposed to Edelgard who's fighting for the future (and Claude is on the same page as Edelgard, but not as willing to take such revolutionary methods). Dimitri kinda irritated me a few times for being so dumb. Oh well, the route was still good. His development was pretty interesting, and the flow seemed fairly natural, though some things were a bit sudden.

The route suffered from a few other things in general, too. It seems to be just about as lacking in answers as Edelgard's route was, despite being a good bit longer. It's lame how it's so similar to Golden Deer overall for half a dozen chapters. Sometimes it doesn't even make sense - the Blood of the Eagle and Lion chapter worked quite well in Golden Deer, but here there is no reason for Claude to attack you. Just felt like lazy game development/writing.

Also, am I missing something, or do they never explain what happened to Dimitri's stepmom? They were implying there was something deeper there, but then nothing ever came of it.

Is there somewhere I can see spoilers for the Church route? I've heard it's quite similar to Golden Deer, but I'm curious about the differences.

The story scenes for SIlver Snow are on YouTube. You'd only have to see anything after chapter 19 for the main stuff.

Off the top of my head:

-The final boss of Silver Snow is Rhea, who has succumbed to FE Dragon Degeneration and must be put down. She does survive if you have an A Support or higher with her, although you only receive confirmation of it if Catherine does not have a paired ending with anyone.

-The big lore drop occurs only if you S Support Rhea, where she explains the full extent of her experiments to bring Sothis back, stating that she created 12 vessels in her attempts to do so.

-There's a random scene where Dimitri appears as a ghost. The Battle of Gronder Field still occurs, but you do not participate in it. Amusingly enough, even with no Byleth, Edelgard still jobs like a chump. Dimitri dies and Claude flees.

I was hoping they would do more with Ashe's history as a thief. It's barely mentioned in the story/his supports, unfortunately.

I'm worried when I see people always saying Golden Deer > all the other stories. I liked Golden Deer fine enough, but was disappointed by the end of it on a pure story basis. I've only managed to get halfway through my second playthrough (Black Eagles) and have pretty much dropped the game at this point. I'll probably come back to it, but it'll be awhile.

The thing is Blue Lions has a great personal story arc, but at the cost of being solely a personal story and much of the world building is put on the back burner. It may not matter though, because Dimitri's story is that good.

It does have the issue of a prominent Part 1 character becoming a complete afterthought in Part 2, not even appearing in a single scene.
