I'm still in my first playthrough and I'm doing all mastery classes. Definitely sticking with a base 10 and not doing this for future playthroughs though, good hell.

I only really use gambits on monsters. Gotta get those smithing materials.

I've never put any effort into training Authority though. That said some units can turn into decent rally bots if you do work on their Authority.

are there any big missables in chests for story fights? i didn't get the chest next to the boss in aillel because he attacked sylvain and got killed by the counter attack like a dummy

Female mages tend to unlock Gremory easily (should be less trouble than Mortal Savant!) Males can train Lance & Riding alongside either magic skill and go for Holy Knight or Dark Knight.

Edit: There are at least some goods worth having in story chests - a Move+1 ring in one of the early chapters, IIRC, and I think several of the A-rank "___ of Zoltan" weapons are in chests.

Rhea got gipped hardcore in Silver Snow

Yeah, sure, the "Church" route effectively makes her not show up until the end. They screwed up by not having her around immediately post time skip. Hell, if you go down that route, Rhea should've been playable beginning in Chapter 12. If you're going to rob BE players of Edelgard and Hubert in Silver Snow, the least you could do is make it up to them by giving them a playable Rhea.

As it stands, Silver Snow is just a waste of everyone's time.

If you want to avoid the most recycled content, go Edelgard's route. Golden Deer shares the same Part 2 maps as Blue Lions from chapters 12-17.

"Necessary" may be a bit on the strong side, but I'm a tad skeptical whether the status quo as is was a net positive. Lest you forget, Edelgard isn't the only one that has a bone to pick with the current state of affairs.

For example, let's take Claude - the game outright states that he and Edelgard share identical ideals. And yes, his methods would be preferable to Edelgard's more direct approach. But am I supposed to believe that the lady in charge of a church that has a doctrine that in essence states "Yeah, crimes are fine in the name of the goddess" would just sit back and let an outsider slowly dismantle the current hierarchy. Hell, am I supposed to believe the nobility of Fodlan in general would just shrug and say "Yeah, we're cool with this guy saying we should open our borders to this country we've feared for decades"?

Consider me doubtful Claude would be able to achieve his goals with any effectiveness without it leading a similar bloody conflict. As it is, he benefits greatly from a certain someone rattling the cages. And he gets to deliver a badass line while he does it!

I feel like I should just restart on classic on maddening. Make me care more!

I've decided to hold off on doing the new difficulty for Silver Snow until we get the first major DLC wave with characters.

I have 230 hours on the books, I CAN HOLD OFF DAMMIT.

The only one that's supposed to have new characters is the last wave, and that's likely not out until next year. Also for all we know they might pull a Torna and the characters will only be a part of a new standalone scenario.

Blue Lions is the best story route in the game.

However, it also has the exact same maps as Golden Deer for the first 17 chapters. If recycled content is a concern for you, Crimson Flower is the most unique.

The Challenge battles that are like twice a month on Hard are actually okay-ish difficulty. Most because the enemies are all massive stat sticks that Double pretty much all of your units. But if you have a high defense character that can face tank those are easy too.

Some of the Paralogues can get somewhat difficult. Marianne's and Manuela/Hanneman one are the main two I'm thinking of tho.

Nothing in the game is really all that hard tho. The enemy AI just isn't aggressive enough, the map designs are often too favorable to the player and they added a bunch of mechanics like Gambits and Combat arts and the CPU rarely uses Combat Artes and doesn't use most of the actually good Gambits.

I'd have really preferred if the new difficulty was adding more units and nerfing battle and weapon exp. But i guess after I beat this BL run I'll do BE on Maddening... simple old stat increases really makes it less interesting to me though.
