I go to another message board that has gossip from celebrity insiders from time to time. Not as much for politics really, and take this with a grain of salt, but someone did once post that they were involved in Washington politics, and that Harris's reputation was that she was intelligent and a hard worker, but that she has a tendency to listen to and go with the last person she talked to. Over the past couple of months, that has explained a lot.

Eh, I don't mind it. I'm sure i could opt out if I really wanted to. We've been knocking those donation milestones out of the park so I think the pros outweigh the cons.

Just need that darn final poll for December. It's frustrating because he's been putting up so many 4 and 5% results, they just don't qualify.

Good catch, but it's not really any better! OMB has no legitimate reason to be calling the president's personal lawyer, and the fact that they were strongly suggests that Trump had directed them to work with Rudy (just as he directed the actual foreign policy people to work with Rudy).

Seems kinda weird then that all of Trump's Congressional allies are whining about the fact that the House majority is exercising this Constitutionally mandated check (claiming that it's illegitimate) rather than criticizing Trump for obstructing the investigation at every turn (particularly in directing people not to testify due to a non-existent purported "absolute privilege")!

It's not constitutionally mandated, it's discretionary. The Senate will decide who is in the right. As for absolute privilege, some combination of the Supreme Court and the Senate will decide that.

I do think high officials need a certain level of immunity in order to function properly - this is why members of Congress have an absolute immunity to read classified information into the record on the floor of the House or Senate. You need to be able to separate out the person from the office. Donald Trump may be personally guilty, but the People are still entitled to their President.

Suppose Donald Trump intentionally shot someone on Fifth Avenue and he is convicted by a jury of 12. What happens next? Should the democratic will of 300 million people be overturned by a jury of 12 people? Should he not remain as President for his term of office?

What if he didn't shoot someone, but drove 1 mph over the speed limit. He's definitely guilty, but should he be removed from office? Since he was elected by the People, only the People can remove him - and that is why the Senate and not any regular court or regular jury tries impeachment trials.

Even if Lev Parnas is lying (which is looking less and less likely every day), CNN reporting on his allegations is very clearly protected by the First Amendment. The world youre implying you want is one in which politicians (or anyone else with enough money) can shut down the rights of anyone to criticize them by bullying them with meritless lawsuits.

Lot of reading if you go through all that, so here's my abridged version: Senator Cramer (R-ND) (the guy who beat Heitkamp in 2018) pitches to Trump a North Dakota company to be awarded a $400 million contract to build a section of the border wall. Fisher, the CEO of said company, and his family donated more than $10,000 - the maximum allowable contribution - to Cramer in 2018 and was his guest to the 2019 SotU. Fisher himself also made frequent appearances on Fox News and other conservative media to pitch his company too saying they could build it cheaper and faster.

Fisher and his company had bid for the contract previously, but had been rejected by the Army Corps of Engineers for their bid not meeting standards and regulations. Officials there, and in DHS, tried to explain to senior administration officials that Fisher's bid was cheaper because it didn't meet the standards and also pointed out an example where Fisher's work came in late and over budget in another barrier project. Fisher unsuccessfully sued the government for rejecting his bids. DHS said he was free to submit bids that were actually up to the standards. Nevertheless, Trump kept insisting it should go to them and got more and more involved in the process believing Fisher's pitch over the Army Corp of Engineers and DHS.

Anyway, fast-forward a bit to August and Cramer blocks an OMB appointment contingent on obtaining sensitive info on the border wall contracts. When he relented, the Army Corps of Engineers told him that the information he was requesting was... well... sensitive and wouldn't give him what he wanted, prompting Cramer to lash out saying he had placed the hold to get the Army Corps of Engineers to reform their process away from prioritizing technical specification over cost.

And now to yesterday. Fisher's company was awarded the $400 million contract. The Army Corps of Engineers did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the AP.

Oh, and Fisher's company doesn't have much experience with this kind of construction at all and has been cited hundreds of times by state and local officials for violating environmental regulations.

I don't think he's a homophobe. (For comparison purposes, I'm LGBT, and didn't know until very recently that the salvation army switched policies to a very homophobic agenda).

It does make him look like an idiot who doesn't do his homework, though, which is a pretty common theme with Pete's campaign.

File that along with his comment of "I didn't know schools in South Bend were still segregated until years after I took office as Mayor". Hm, yes, wouldn't that be your job as Mayor, though?

Turley appears to be arguing that what Trump did wasn't bribery because of a Supreme Court case (McDonnell vs US) that ruled that merely setting up meetings did not qualify as an "official act" under federal bribery statutes. Except...we already know Trump was attempting to secure an actual official act, of Ukraine announcing an investigation.

He's also arguing that Congress is bypassing the courts with the obstruction charges by demanding evidence that Trump is fighting in courts and proceeding with impeachment. Even though by putting the issue to trial in the Senate, Justice Roberts will likely up reviewing the matter anyways.
