Arggghhhhhhhhh my game froze for like 10 seconds during the Zenos fight, and when it unfroze my sound was dead! And then because FF14's sound breaks if you unplug/plug in headphones I couldn't fix it without quitting the game (why the fuck did they set it up like this?), so I had to watch the post dungeon cutscenes without sound. So frustrating,

The localization story I always hear about Urianger is that when they localized the game, they made an intentional choice to rewrite most of the dialogue in a more deliberate "Western Fantasy" style, which resulted in the more unique tone for the series and all the ASOIAF-isms littered around. But apparently in the JP version, the writing is mostly normal...except a few characters (like Urianger) who already speak in a fantasy style. So for those they had to crank it up to 11.

not for haurchefant though! they specifically toned him down a lot, especially in 2.x patches. to the point where when they semi-reverted his speech patterns back to what he should have been all along in heavensward, people thought he'd gotten tempered. nope, he was speaking that way since the first time you met him in JP

tldr haurchefaunt SUPER lusted after you, even his dying words have different connotations in JP vs eng in that they're a lot more personal and emotional in JP

Yeah I feel like I got some of that from Haurchefaunt, especially in the 2.x patch story, but it's interesting to me it was even more pronounced in JP.

I'm a big fan of this game's localization overall but I'd be interested in seeing more of the changes if those are compiled somewhere. The only other MAJOR change/fuckup I know about is Nael and by now there's enough supplemental lore to that around where the translation fuckup mostly just seems to be ignored entirely.

only other big translation thing I can think of is how starboard/larboard is handled in this game, most specifically o11. In japanese, the kanji hints at which side is being blasted because the attack name has left or right in it; in english, you just have to know/learn nautical terms. And not just any nautical terms; larboard is obsolesced these days by the term portside. So you have to know nautical terms that aren't even used anymore!

you'll still remember it after a few deaths because it's not actually that hard of a mechanic, but it kind of sucks that it's translated in a way that makes it less clear than in the original language, for a mechanic that you solely identify based on the attack name. I think e8 attacks (biting/driving) might be in a similar situation, but I'm not totally sure, and besides that attack has two different visual indicators anyways

Shiva is way way worse for this

It's not just Biting/Driving, it later uses an upgraded combo version of both and they're both Twin S-words (Stillness and Silence). Just an absolute shitshow to try and remember. Everything ice armor related is my least favorite part of Shiva by a lot.

Stillness is easy if you're a DPS! You're already behind her so just don't move. Too bad for main tanks tho.

Personally I found E2S's harder to memorize. Slicer/Guillotine and Chaos/Retribution don't lend themselves well to helpful mnemonics.

For Shiva I just do one and learn the other is opposite so:
Driving -> front, go forward like driving a car, Biting is opposite (alternatively: bite my ass)
Stillness/Silence I already did

and then the other two the ranged and healers get to do lol ranged privilege but sometimes you still have to do it so it goes
Scythe -> safe, scythes hit further away
Spiteful Dance -> shiva says go out just to spite melee uptime

Even at 80 some stuff I can't solo. Just had to PF T9. Coils have some weird mechanics. And now I can't do T10 either.

BLM isnt exactly the ideal solo class.

though they don't have enough dps to cheese some fights, that'll change as we get more geared

As long as autos don't interrupt your casts you should be able to solo them when you hit 80. I certainly can do all the level 50 extremes on Bard. Nothing does enough damage anymore.

Coils nah though, still got instawipe mechanics on some of those.

Yeah, 80 BLM with like...440 gear can definitely solo most of the early EX primals

I think the only one that should give you any trouble as DPS is Ifrit and that's only if you don't burn him past the phase where he summons like 10 nails at once, that can get pretty spicy if it isn't skipped.

Plus at 80 BLM goes from being a very good job to the best job in the game

Just barely managed to solo Titan extreme with a 396 BLM with one stack of echo (like one second slower and he would have entombed me again)

I distinctly remember soloing Titan Extreme on PLD at the end of Stormblood - I was progging UWU at the time and needed to practice dodging landslides. I don't recall any particular difficulties, but that's probably because of PLD's tool kit.

i actually tend to agree, i wonder if its in the timing of the umbral ice phases with respect to when the heart phase starts - if you're not pumping out damage right when that starts i can see getting gaoled.

Ive successfully manawarded the gaol once (though not on the successful run). I think theres less than a second of wiggle room so that it doesnt run out before you get hit.

And yeah I often had to transpose through phase changes if I hadn't just case Fire 1/3 or Ice 3 and it takes a little bit of time to get back to casting Fire 4. In the successful run I avoided a gaol in the heart phase, but still got one before that and I think one after.

Almost in full Crystarium gear on the left side of my MNK loadout. I'm too much of a coward for raids though, so no weapon for me...

normal raids is super easy though, could have had your tome weapon a week ago if you had been doing them

Is this week 7 or week 8? Honestly can't remember...I finally cleared E8S this week and our group decided to skip weapons so I wasn't paying much attention.

Regardless, relic is getting patched in on Tuesday so you can grab that! Hopefully the first step is easy.

Honestly augmented deepshadow is good enough for all non-savage content right now. If you're really itching for an upgrade the HQ crafted 480 weapon is a good investment because you should be able to upgrade it to 490 as soon as 5.3 hits, and the item to upgrade tome weapon (in this case 490->500) is usually delayed a long time.

But wait until tomorrow to see what the relic is like
