Huh. I don't remember this song at all but I actually like it quite a bit (the original version at least). Solid rhythm part and the combination of electronic held notes with xylophone sounds really neat, and I also like the exotic stringed instrument at 0:45. The Evo version makes the sensible change the vocal-sounding electronic part to actual choir vocals, but the rest of the song just sounds lukewarm and doesn't maintain tension at all.

See my writeup for Hamel as these are the same song but with the first and second half flipped. Strangely though the change results in a notably lower score for the original version because the progression makes less sense, and it's missing the cool intro. It doesn't make much difference for the Evo version since it's being carried by one of the halves anyways, and the violin entrance at 2:34 actually sounds kind of weird in Hamel when it's towards the beginning of the song.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The "dings" of OG are so much more powerful than the legato Evo. And what are those violins doing here from :25 to :50 or so?

See my writeup for Hamel

Oops
Aw yes Hamel. One of my favorite tracks from the original OST. The xylophone at the beginnining and the background chords sound so serene. The added instruments at the end also provide a good emotional climax to the song. As for the Evo version...ugh. Thematically I can see why they made the melody sound like it does but musically it doesn't really work. The notes need to be more clearly enunciated or something.

Ah, the title screen. Has that good "you're about to set off on a tale full of intrigue and friendship and bruh moments" feel. I like the fake loop at the end where the first bit gets a bit busier.

I did not expect that synth at the start, wew. Kinda jarring. The saxophone in this actually works really well though. Definitely more memorable, though in both directions.

A mostly standard battle-y theme, this one's fast pace is pretty good overall, but it dipping into a few notes of Sophisticated Fight pushes it higher in my eyes. Unfortunately, the Evo version replaces the main melody with a synth that is frankly kinda painful to hear (along with bees). The added piano is cool, but its not present enough to really save this one from being annoying. The Sophisticated Fight reference in this version also lacks some punch compared to how it comes in in the original.
-------------------------------------------------------------
that song with a small sophisticated fight motif. The original is aight. Nothing too special, just something to hype yourself up with once in a while. I have a very bad feeling about the evo though...

That chord at :40 completely changes the mood of the piece. Has some Dark Star vibes for a bit, then leaves the Secret of Mana zone. I feel like this track should be taking place in some kind of alt dimension like Corridors of Time. Evo tampering makes the piece feel more like a sci-fi track. It's interesting, but it lacks the mystery and eeriness of the original.

I assume this is a translation thing, but the title "Unpretentious Dinner" is hilarious to me. Especially when the music playing suggests that it's a VERY pretentious dinner. There's virtually no different in the evo version here. The sound is fuller, as though being played by a string ensemble instead of chamber musicians, but the overall design is the same.

I liked the song, but didn't really differentiate the two versions

Oh, this track! It's somewhat understated but I love the feeling that it conveys...which I guess I'd say is something like determination in the face of an overwhelming obstacle? Evo version is slightly worse because something about the low part is off a bit and doesn't convey the same gravity, but the song here is simple enough that it doesn't make much difference.

Omen of Disaster's melody reminds me of Geofront. Not sure how intentional this is, but I love how it sounds so completely different here.

I am definitely the opposite of both rankers on Unconveyable Feelings -- that chorus just works for me here.

zero no kiseki sounds noticeably different in let's plays than it does in the ost video.

I assume this is a translation thing, but the title "Unpretentious Dinner" is hilarious to me.

The Japanese is "modest," in the sense of self-humility (e.g., the word shows up in the Japanese equivalent to "A small token of our appreciation). Which I guess "unpretentious" is synonymous with, but >_>

These sort of driving dungeon themes are generally songs I don't like as much as the rest of the fanbase. I think that does apply here since this is probably one of the most popular 3rd tracks, though I'd still easily call this one of the better songs like this myself. Also I've never noticed this before, but if you focus on things besides the bass there are some really really cool melodies in the backing melodies (the fact that this is difficult is mainly what holds the song back though). The Evo version is definitely better to me at least. Still has all the plusses of the original, but the "Singa-fication" of the main melody actually works in it's favor here. The techno buzzy sort of sound here is much more pleasant on my ears than the booming bass of the original. (Note: I don't actually know whether or not Singa worked on this particular track but it sounds like it). Although, the more subdued melodic parts at around 1:00 to 2:00 are probably better in the original version.
-------------------------------------------------------------
A reminder: these songs were assigned RANDOMLY. I have been praying to get this, and I did only though dumb luck. The original is really good and all but

SINGA-SAN! WHAT ARE YOU DOING! WHY ARE APOIDEANS ASSAULTING MY EARS!? Some parts are good (I like the super goofy orchestral hits) but WHY! WHY? WHY

I dunno what's going on in this scene, but I hope it involves some stealth work in some dark city blocks, trying to sneak into the back entrance of a night club or thieves hideout or something. I've been listening to these collectively on my laptop, and the bass in the evo version sounds like absolute ass. Like, one step above fart noises. I know the speakers aren't fantastic, but they haven't sounded this awful for the other tracks. Plus I really don't care for what the rest of the variant is doing. Weird noises all over.

Cool atmospheric music, but this one is held back by not really anywhere with it. The Evo version addeds quite a bit of percussion, so I actually like it more despite not liking the main synth's sound as much as the original's.

Eerie atmospheric music like this isn't generally my thing, but this one's usage of the main Trails in the Sky leitmotif gives it some more interest to me. The Evo version is significantly less creepy than the original by virtue of being string-based, but divorced from their game contest it's more engaging to listen to. It fails at its mission to mimic the original atmosphere, though, so there's a limit to how far it can go.

The song starts off with some neat mysterious ambiance and then transitions into some understated but really cool melodies in the second half. A but passive overall but I think I'm a fan anyways. Evo version is somewhat more sinister-sounding but I think it pretty much also works. I don't like the pluck sound of the instrument they're using in the latter half of the Evo version though, and also some parts in the middle just sound slightly worse.
-------------------------------------------------------------
More lies from the Zero OST tracknames. Doesn't really get interesting until the 2 minute mark in OG. Evo is more interesting throughout, but doesn't hit that high mark quite as well.

The evo edition was on track to just be "x but slightly worse" until the section from ~1:10-1:35 hit. What the fuck was that hot garbage? That section was remininsent of the 999 BPM bit in Speed Star Kanade in that it RUINED the entire song with its awfulness. What a bummer :(.
-------------------------------------------------------------
evo arrangement feels just a bit more amateur; it feels like it was going for a sakuraba-y prog rock vibe but does not pull it off very well imo, too artificial/sloppy simultaneously to come across that way. original is nice and clean and 90s-jrpg sounding which for this type of music, works a lot better. original feels like if chrono trigger battle theme got ported to sega cd with full prod arrangements or something and that is a good thing to imagine

Despite containing a bunch of elements I usually like, this one just doesn't do it for me and I'm not sure as to why. It's not bad, it's just... there. The Evo version's strings and flutes actually register as more interesting elements to me, improving the piece somewhat.

An exciting and fun jam, this one unfortunately feels to me to be held back by the main synth drowing everything else out. The cool parts of the piece still have an effect (especially the bass that kicks in later) but the loudness of that synth holds it back. The Evo version gets rid of that synth, but it also makes the main melody's instrumentation worse and more shrill and just feels off-key and off-time. It got rid off my biggest issue with the original, but also damaged the parts I liked about the original.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Always really liked this one with its angry syncopated organs and crazy drums. Even the quieter parts have a neat driving energy.

Keyboard in the Evo feels really weak, and the general instrument sounds feel less cohesive. Don't think the harsher guitar fits this one.

Very relaxing, but not much beyond that until the synth comes in near the end. The Evo version has this cool sound where it feels/sounds like someone is humming alongside the song, which combined with the new acoustic guitar improves the piece from just relaxing to feeling really good to listen to, and when the strings come in is just excellent.

This track goes for the jugular- its incredibly sad and attempts to not just tug, but tear out your heartstrings, and the vibe it brings helps it succeed at that. The Evo versions uses more-real instruments and adds some more strings, which I feel helps the piece quite a bit, even if it loses a small amount of the original's sad atmosphere.

The worst version of Silver Will is still pretty good, it turns out. Vocals in the Evo version have a much better tone but are also less expressive. It ends up being a net win, but not a huge one. Someone's tragic backstory, complete with heartbeat sounds! The original has the calmness of a fleeting memory, but it doesn't match up to the raw emotion packed into the remake. It's a shame it has such beautiful melodic leads at 0:30 and 0:46, they could have been developed so much more in a longer track!

A sweet mixing of piano and strings, this one is just... rewarding to listen to- the real "tears of joy" mood flows out of it. The Evo version places more focus on the strings than the piano, but its still just as good, and the later section pushes it to be a bit better in my eyes.
-------------------------------------------------------------
big violin performance adds Emotional AND timbral variety that i appreciate; so evo version preferred.

Nice smooth piano jazz. I like the tone of the piano more in the Evo version, and the more prominent drumset is also good.

It's menacing for sure, but this track doesn't really interest me, especially when compared to other sonds sharing its leitmotif like The Enforcers or Fateful Confrontation. It just doesn't do anything to make me care too much. Meanwhile, what the fuck is going on with the Evo version? The added (is that a triangle?) triangle iis slightly offkey for no reason, and overall there's just more sounds than the original, effectively drowning out the listener with tons of music. It's more memorable than the original for sure, but I can't really call it better.
-------------------------------------------------------------
original version is just a bit cooler to me; i like SC's overall sound and this is an example of it. not a horrible evo remake though, it has its merits in being more intense, ]more metallic and heavy

Talking to everyone isn't mandatory. But if you are someone who likes talking to lots of NPC's, the NPC's in this series often have actual substantive dialogue and their own plotlines which are regularly updated.

This has got to be second phase final boss music. This song is pulling out all the stops to make it sound epic, but I don't feel like there's much difference with the evo version. If they're different, they're functionally equivalent.

Having been familiar with the OTHER version first, I would say the original's instrumentation has more charm! The guitar has a bit of a blue-grass feel to it, and the flutes sound so barren and longing. Creates a unique feel. I love the bass's dark sound and and the piano doing those little complmentary bits, working together w/ the guitar in the second half... also a unique feeling. Even the choice of drums seem meaningful. i-VI harmonies are utilized nicely, and there's the nice addition of nat-VI at 0:33. Some catchy motifs, too.

EVO version: Yeah, some of the instrumentation on this one sounds too "standard" and a lot of the feelings of the original have been lost, but actually that mainly applies to the violin. I love the raindrop piano strikes in the first part of it and some of the other ambient stuff.

Original works a backing part by tossing a ton of different melodies over top. It works. Evo has some neat ideas, but switches all the instruments around and adds some background SFX. Some of it works surprisingly well, like the ocean waves, and some of it is clearly the result of too much meddling.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I love the instrumentation in the Evo version. Feels like water droplets, electric stuff with piano and strings works so well... It's so haunting.

A Still World easily one of the best 3rd songs imo, though this is actually probably higher than I expected it to place. I like a lot of what the Evo version does but unfortunately the climax of the song just doesn't work for me in that version. Would probably go like 8.5/7.5 if I were rating or something like that.

Up until the buzzing I'd agree, but that's unbearable, and the chorus at 1:50 gets it worse. Yowch. 8.5/6

Super catchy Necrodancer-esque dungeon theme! The remake has a great echoey piano, but also strips down the entire second half of the song (which was the best part). Also, the acid bass isn't as PHAT and the distorted guitar is even weirder than the original's flute.

This is meh, which is very different from "yawn." Though OG has that really cool lick around 1:30 that bumps it ahead

Cue someone shouting out the time signature! Reminds me of Etrian Odyssey labyrinths, especially Primeval Forest Ring (and by extension PMD4 - Road to Primeval Forest), which is an easy path to a high rating. The new percussion in the remake is everything...it really seals that mysterious but encouraging vibe that the song is going for!
-------------------------------------------------------------
Probably the worst Trails final dungeon theme, which is admittedly a really good set of tracks but~

Not gonna lie... I prefer the vocal version by quite a bit. This version at first I wasn't sure whether it was a violin or a harmonica... But I"m sure it's harmonica because it's obviously that in the EVO version. A lot of stuff is the same, but another difference I don't like is trading in guitar support for low string support. But yeah, I still like this! Music is very slow, emotional and longing. The drum ostinatos are very nice... the soft electronic ones add a lot of emotion to this. The rhythms of the piano and guitar support are great and intesify the feelings further. Great VI7 chord at 1:00! And yay, the fantastic guitar solo is still in this! The major chord ending fits so perfectly....

EVO version: the harmonica here sounds more like what it is like, but now it has awkard vibrato added, not to mention almost all the ornamenting/added notes are awkward too... the performer should have just stayed true to what was on the page, so I'm not sure which harmonica I like more! But that guitar solo is still pristine ike before, gee WHIZ, what a stark difference in quality.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Very melancholy. I did not like Evo's harmonica additon

Whoa, Those rhythmic patterns in the bass/drum/piano are GREAT... Super suspsenful triple-duple meter here with some hemiola as well. Some of the other shoddy quality instruments in the early sections I don't like so much.... But there ARE some good harmonic bits in there that add lots of tension (0:39 - 0:46). But then we get some weird polytonality at 1:26... wow, those otherworldly echoing sounds are awesome. B-flat major vs. D-flat minor or something. Nitfy percussive electronic effects! That's gotta be my favorite part of it.

EVO version: This one's got more of a full orchestral sound to it. I guess that's good because the rinky-dink parts are at a higher quality now, though I think the beginning section is better in the original. But now the alternate tonality in those high electronic effects are more difficult to hear.... booooooo!
-------------------------------------------------------------
Did you really give me two arrangements of basically the same song?? Rng why. Anyway don't like it as much as the above but unisaga did an okay job here honestly
