#27 - Lady Flash (Christina) [Ivana Molotova]

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/7/3/AAcguBAADmcB.png

How high can I justifiable place a one shot character is a question I was asking myself a bit during making my list.

Lady Flash was one of Goth's Furies in Blue Valley. While the other two Furies were conspiring against Stargirl, Lady Flash we heard had lost her mind. And as we were sneaking towards Blue Valley PD, we found Lady Flash in the alleyway behind it, desperately stabbing herself with needles. There's a pile of used syringes around her - syringes labelled Sharp and Velocity 9, two drugs that enhance speed. She's rambling about how Ollie would like this and how she can't find the lightning any longer. She's utterly broken. Goth isn't just controlling her with his powers, he's controlling her with these drugs. The party tries to explain to her that she's being used and it almost gets through to her. She begs for lightning and luckily Fastbreak is with us. He blasts her with lightning and shes screams for more. He blasts her with everything she has and she starts shimmering with speed and for the first time, she looks like she knows where she is again. "He took my lightning. I want to run." The party tells her to go to Keystone, and she leaves.

I expected not to see her again until we returned to Keystone, but during our fight with Goth, there's a blue flash and Lady Flash falls into the room. We're not exactly sure where she went or what pulled her back, but Goth orders her to kill us. She refuses, and he offers to strengthen her connection to the Speed Force, attempting to control her with her addiction once again. For a brief moment she reaches out to him before she snarls - "You don't control me!"

While the party restrained Goth, Lady Flash grabbed his chest and Speed Force opened. Lady Flash thanked the party and with a giant flash and a sonic explosion, the portal closes, Lady Flash and Goth gone.

And that was it. What happens when you enter the Speedforce? Are you dead or is there a return from it? The party has conflicting details there - Flashes have returned from the Speedforce, but we also know Speedsters that when they die return to the Speedforce. Brennus isn't sure, so he added her name to their Memorial Wall anyway. If she's gone, she deserves to be remembered for doing the right thing, when it came to it. She had a disease, an addiction that Goth was manipulating. But despite this, when the party offered her a kindness she returned it to them. A villain doing the right thing and seeking redemption is one of my favorite tropes, so I might have Christina higher on this list than I should. But Blue Valley is a locale that I greatly enjoyed and Lady Flash is a large part of that experience for me. Until we meet again.

Hint for #26: This character shares a name with at least one other member of their family.

I had a lot of fun running with Lady Flash for a little while. These speedsters have something unique about their speech patterns, and the rate of motion around them just always seems to slow down when they show up. Great fun.

I don't think I quite get the clue - most of the families in the campaign share a last name, at least. I'm going to say A.J., maybe?

EDIT: Oh, Hal makes sense.

#26 - Ragdoll (Peter Merkel Jr)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/6/6/AAOJ0pAADaOq.jpg

I went for a 2-for-1 with my hint. He shares a first name and a codename with his father!

Another member of the Secret Six, Ragdoll has one of the most memorial introductions. We were approaching the House of Secrets, where the Secret Six's base was. They didn't know we were coming and in hindsight, approaching the base of six supervillains was... foolish. They quickly surrounded us, prepared to kill us. The first ones we saw were Deadshot and Cheshire, characters that we were familiar with from Campaign 1. But then sitting on the engine of our car, crouched down and bent at unnatural angles, staring at us with a white face... it was terrifying and a moment that has stuck with me all the way back from Week 4 of the campaign.

Ragdoll is the son of Rag Doll. Both are able to contort their body in extreme ways, but Rag Doll was born with the ability to do this. Ragdoll was born normal. And in a desperate attempt to please his father, underwent surgeries to make his body more malleable. It didn't work, his father still saw him as nothing more than a disappointment. These father issues likely had a strong impact on Ragdoll, but honestly it's hard to tell, since he's absolutely insane.

The surgeries also made him the perfect target for Mockingbird. He requires a special medication to prevent his bones from becoming too brittle. But even without that, I think Ragdoll would be against the Society. For his father is a member, and Ragdoll is looking forward to Rag Doll's brutal murder.

Ragdoll feels a kinship with Brennus. Both of their father's were members of the Injustice League. He's expressed some interest in finding children of others - Artemis, the daughter of Tigress and Sportsmaster and Cameron, son of the Icicle - and pulling pranks on similar named heroes - a Hol to Hall as he called it. It actually sounded fun and Brennus agreed. We haven't found either of these people yet and who knows when we do if they'll even have any interest in joining up with Brennus and Ragdoll, but it's a fun, but weird, pairing between the two of them.

Ragdoll also loves pain. He's constantly trying to find ways to get people to hurt him. When he answers the door to the Secret Six's floor in Z'onn Z'orr, it's not unusual to find a knife sticking out of him or him danginging from a nose in the ceiling. Spirit has field medic training classes he teaches and Ragdoll loves to demonstrate whatever the lesson is by causing himself the injury that Spirit needs to fix. Spirit hates this and tries to do the lesson without the injury. It's always a fun game to watch between one person trying to injure himself and the other trying to prevent it.

And as mentioned in K'Ray's writeup, but Ragdoll and K'Ray seem to be best of friends, at least as much as an insane villain can be friends with a mind damaged Parademon. It's cute, in a weird-insane-brain damaged way. The Secret Six's storyline is often tragic, such as the fight between Catman and Deadshot that is ongoing, filled with betray, such as with Cheshire betraying the entire time and heavy. But K'Ray and Ragdoll together add a level of humor to the group which is very appreciated.

Hint for #25: They are gay

#25 - Foal Fruntell

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/0/9/AAcguBAADmft.jpg

Oh! A ranking!

Foal was brought back to Z'onn Z'orr from Skartaris - a world in the middle of Earth. While Brennus has been to Skartaris, he was not present the session that Foal was found and rescued, but everyone was pressuring me to go and introduce myself to the unicorn, promising me that it would be worth it.

And it was. Foal is Brennus if Brennus was a unicorn. They are both a prince - although Foal's father was recently killed by the Society. They are both gay - although Foal didn't understand this word and Brennus had to explain it to him. They are both excitable and they are both absolutely horrible at noticing things. Brennus is notorious for his bad perception - which is so bad that Brennus thinks he's actually really perceptive - and this is a trait Foal has as well. Unfortunately for Foal, when he's unperceptive he ends up stabbing people with his horn accidentally. He bends over for a dandelion and bonks someone on the head with his horn.

The worst case when when Brennus was trying to get open a book, Magic for Mummies. It's a book they found in Zatanna's apartment and Brennus has been told he needs to find Zatanna to open the book. But he's not one to accept an answer of no or even just wait. So he decided that Foal should try stabbing the magical lock with his horn. Unicorns are magical, so maybe...! Foal took a couple swings and... well, let's just roll the tape.

Foal Fruntell looks down, scrapes a hoof at the snow beneath and jabs his horn towards the lock!
But he misses...
"Oh! Off by an inch," he exclaims, readying himself again.
Clink. "Just a hair high!"
"Right, right! Third time's the charm!"
Clink. "Oh, overcompensated there, I think!"
"Here, you stay still and I'll swing it into your horn!" Brennus offers.
"Oh! What a clever solution!"
Foal Fruntell lowers his horn in preparation.
"Here we go!"
Brennus grips the book tight and aims the lock at the tip of the horn, swinging
Foal Fruntell lunges forward!
"Oh! I think it's stuck in the lock, Brennus!" Foal Fruntell says.
"..."
Brennus looks down
You notice something lodged between right ribs 3 and 4.

And then Foal gave me a ride up to the MedBay so we could surgical remove the unicorn horn, still attached to Foal, from me. A total freak accident that could have happened to anyone, Foal and Brennus are very careful usually.

Foal also told Brennus about the Necrocornicorn, a book designed to bring horses back from the dead. Brennus had a brilliant idea to find it and use it to bring Foal's father back from the dead, which lead to this response, which is one of my favorite things scar has ever typed:

"Oh! Using dark magic for noble purposes! Nothing could go wrong, surely."

I'm thinking I might have ranked Foal too low after writing this, honestly. I love that unicorn.

Hint for #24: This character placed on War's list, but not on Han's.

#24 - Mento (Steve Dayton)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/4/5/AAQcMAAADc9V.png

This one might be a bit surprising. My list is slanted towards characters that I interact with more and Mento is a pretty big outlier on this list. Brennus didn't go on the mission to find him and ever since he's come back, Brennus has rarely ventured up to the top floor to talk to him. But I still love him.

I love him for the dichotomy between his two halves. When he has his helmet on, he's the biggest dick you'll ever meet. Full of psychic powers, he can pull anything out of your mind and has no qualms sharing it with the room. The first time he entered debriefing, he made many enemies by looking at someone and just casually mentioning something they didn't want shared - such as Saoirse being married previously.

Without his helmet? He's a blubbering mess with no memory of what he's done or said and horrified to find out. He doesn't want to put the helmet back on - he knows what it does to him and he knows what it can do to his relationships with others. But he reluctantly always has to put it back on because he might be the most important person we currently have in Z'onn Z'orr. If either The Spectre or The Society ever find out where our base is located, we're dead. We're the last resistance on Earth and keeping our location a secret is one of the most important things. And our location is kept a secret because of Mento shielding our location psychically. Not because of Steve Dayton. Mento. Steve knows this and he knows how important it is, no matter how much he hates it.

Mento doesn't get a lot of screen time, possibly because players are nervous about talking to him and what he might say. But what a character.

Hint for #23: Varra would be horrified by this ranking.

#23: Vicki Vale

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/4/5/AAcguBAADmjZ.jpg

One of Varra's least favorite people became someone Brennus has some begrudging respect for.

In Campaign 1, we meet Vicki Vale when she was on the jury of the Fake Mad Hatter's trial that our party was the prosecution for, with Tally Man as the defense and Two-Face as the judge.

That sure is a sentence!

The trial was a lot of fun. Justice prevailed? We won, but Tally Man was still happy about losing. After the trial, we introduced ourselves to Vicki Vale, hoping that having a reporter to write about our experiences in No Man's Land could be beneficial. But in meeting Varra, she decided that Varra was behind anything and everything in No Man's Land. She... actually had a lot of things right. Varra was loyal to the Penguin and had a past as an assassin. But no matter how Varra tried to make things better, Vicki only ever saw it as a step in Varra De Luca's grand plan to take all power for herself. She even had a murder board focusing on Varra in her office. She was obsessed. For a while, Varra tried to prove herself but eventually gave up.

So when in Campaign 2 we found Vicki Vale as the Headmistress at a school to brainwash children, Varra's hatred transferred over to Brennus and he was ready to take her out. But... she wasn't really equated! She was undercover protecting children! She helped us get some kids out and in return, she came back to Z'onn Z'orr with us once her cover was blown. Right before the world went to hell, she was putting together the story of all stories: Bruce Wayne is Batman. Our party tried acting subdued and tried to convince her she's wrong - but she knows. And when the world is back to what it was, she's going to publish this story. Unless we find a way to convince her otherwise.

Before a Gotham mission, Vicki asked us to stop at the Gazette and retrieve her rolodex for her. Brennus had no interest in this, but the rest of the party wanted to help her and he relented. After returning, he checked in with her and... a respect slowly grew. They spoke frankly about Varra and Vicki admitted that she grew to like her. She spoke about details of Varra's history with the League that Brennus was still unsure of. Unintentionally, Vicki Vale won over Brennus while driving a little more a wedge between him and Varra.

Vicki also asked Brennus to keep an eye on Lush. This was at a point in the campaign when there was some suspicion on Lush due to the way she was acting - she was becoming a bit unhinged. Brennus agreed, but Lush has been in a better place recently. I do have a special RP where I get to be interviews by Vicki for an article in the Gazette outstanding. I need to do that sometime and get another Vicki scene in the books.

Through Vicki Vale, Scar also gets to write news articles about stories happening in the wider world. Stories that we won't necessarily get to see first hand or that will impact the campaign, but things that build the world. They are always an interesting read and I think Scar has a lot of fun writing them.

Hint for #22: This character has attended therapy sessions with LaGrieve.

The fact that scar somehow flipped my opinion on Vicki is one of the things that confuses me about the campaign. I'm not sure how it happened.

It's actually kind of a common thread with Brennus. If he spends time with someone he has an issue with, he tends to find common ground with them.
