Byron appears to be one of the most vital characters introduced so far.
Had we gotten another 5 more misery instances I'd have checked out of the plot.
But he adds much needed levity.

I definitely expect FF16 to sell a lot less than FF15. Less hype (due to FF15) and lower install base.

Everywhere I checked had 2.4 mill across platform. Sales reporting is just a crapshoot apparently.

16 has better word of mouth, so it may even out in the end.

In comparison, FF7 Remake sold 3.5 million. FF15 had a big marketing push, much bigger than FF16, and the long dev cycle ironically created a lot of interest for it. If FF15 had actually been a good game, it could've brought the series to new heights. Instead it just damaged the brand, whoops.

15 really did a lot to kill goodwill for the series, I hope square recognizes that and doesn't assume that 16 is a failure just because of that. Being ps5 only as well doesn't help. I think most companies would recognize that but I've heard square in particular is terrible at forecasting/responding to sales metrics

15 also kind of just....kept doing damage? People talk about how the new content was solid, but I think in the long run the thing the new content is most remembered for in the public eye is getting cancelled.

That game's complete package is typically on sale for less than $20, feature "complete" with all DLC packed in. Good for the consumer, probably not what the publisher wants to see.

And it's difficult to determine how much good will is earned back from XIV continuing to deliver as one the franchise's best games, because some people just won't play it. For those people, the last 3 FF games were XV, XIII, and XII.....not exactly show stoppers.

I don't think SE considers 3 mil first week sales a failure, but who knows. Publishers always have crazy targeted sales numbers.

Also, just gonna say it: people like to clown and meme about the funy Cup Noodle stuff, but I find that shit downright embarrasing. The fact that one of the most prominent and respected franchise's in gaming started doing fucking ad reads for real world products is dire. Really just shows what a bad place that game was in.

If this game is as successful as FF7R, I don't think we have too much to worry about. That game also had to deal with timed exclusivity at launch

That game was also on the PS4, which, you know, people actually have.

Actually I don't know what the PS5 install base is like now, obviously nowhere remotely close to the PS4's when 7R released, but can you just walk into a store and buy a PS5 now?

The coolest thing at The Hideaway is being able to view the character tree thingy. Helps so much to see which side everyone is on. Not sure why you get access to it at this point but it's what I was wishing for since the start.

I miss being able to stumble upon a sidequest.

Loving ff16 for what it is. but being able to warp around to complete minor distractions is just a bit womp womp for me.

Yeah game holds you by your hand in that sense.

It definitely feels structurally designed to appeal specifically to me, lol.

Still have what feels like half the game left I think, I figure it's probably going to end up pretty high on the list at this rate. I don't like any of the Nomura games though so it's hardly a typical ranking.

I love some of the sound effects Clive makes using Titan's powers. ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

While the areas from the hideout the kingdom you're on your way to have ended up being surprisingly larger than I thought they would be (which I've enjoyed), I do find myself wishing the kingdoms themselves when you got there were more explorable and not just a linear mission straight to the Dominant or Mothercrystal you're after. I'm just a big fan of the design of the The Crystalline Dominion and wanted to explore in more than just sneak across rooftops and go straight to where Bahamut was.

If that was the case though we probably wouldn't be playing this game right now and instead not for another year so in the end it's fine

Indeed I walked into best buy after Jedi Survivor released and asked if they had a PS5, they chuckled since there was about 40 in stock.

So yeah they're readily available now.

Also on topic this is the third Final Fantasy that I have truly enjoyed. 7 and 10 are the others. I finally got Stone which has greatly increased my amount of fun. Both parry moves are incredibly satisfying to use, just wish it hadn't taken so long to obtain these combat options lol

wow Clive's VA giving the performance of his life in this scene (when he meets his mother again for the first time)

Ben Starr is absolutely incredible in this game, and he's going to get so much work now. He's great in interviews, too.

Literally the only other credited roll he's had is some background nobody in Arknights. The dude could not have gotten a better break than this.

The way this game just keeps escalating is fantastic, unless it shits the bed in the back end it's easily the best FF in 20 years.

And boy is that music gonna come out of left field for people who haven't played XIV, lol.

Can confirm as someone who's never played XIV, that music def threw me for a loop. Good shit.

Doing them legit is annoying, but they end up not being an issue if you put on the auto combo and auto dodge stuff XD

Ignition into Lightning Rod is my new favorite thing

Okay I beat Bahamut and that was done much better than Titan. Longer had been bad but this was good. I'm not a huge fan of the eikon battles gameplay wise but this came with varying enough gameplay that the pace feel good. Also the whole sequence might have been the peak of the game so far. At least it's a contender.

I think I'm through the "Jill section" i.e. the "volcano level"

Unless the game throws a massive curveball with her and she ends up betraying Clive as revenge for Rosaria's conquering of the Northern territories and being used as a vassal her whole life or something equally as wild, Jill is going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for boring "main girls."

It's weird because there's potential here but the game seems to always play it safe with her. Who knows, maybe it's still building to something. She's getting some weak death flags at least but I get the feeling it's just going to end with Clive talking her power and "curing" her or something.

Lightning abilities are why I still have the ability exp accessory equipped, because I sure to want some of those abilities but I sure don't want to have Ramuh actually equipped.

Jeez, that is something else. I think about how many games have the first real boss or the dramatic L3+R3 moment to really show off, and this game already had those before this fight.
