Though honestly 41% is more than I thought it would be. I do wonder what would happen to the results of the first poll if you took out the word supplies.

I'm more surprised the Republicans are a little more consistent than the Democrats on a question.

43% say "Don't send weapons" 41% say "Send aid to Gaza."

Meanwhile you've got a lot of Dems saying "Let's send Gaza aid to help with the weapons we're sending Israel to use against them."

I suspect there's a decent number of dems who are just like "Gaza is being attacked, and Israel is being attacked :( We should send aid to people who are being attacked :) geopolitics is easy as long as people are caring <3"

Whereas Republicans are more likely to just hate certain groups for no reason, leading to consistent (but horrible) beliefs in situations like this

well for once i made a good lifestyle choice and did not watch c-span for live coverage of the speaker nonsense but for the sake of the record:

Ballot 3:

Jeffries - 210
Jordan - 194
Scalise - 8
McHenry - 6
Zeldin - 4
Donalds - 2
McCarthy - 2
Emmer - 1
Garcia - 1
Westerman - 1

429 votes (4 members absent) so the number needed for a majority was 215. Anti-Jordan votes increased to 25.

Afterwards the GOP had another closed meeting and voted on whether Jordan should remain their nominee:

Remove Jordan as nominee - 112
Keep Jordan as nominee - 86
Present - 5
21 non-voters

So he's out and the GOP has gone home for the weekend.

I will say, I dont think those two Republican figures are exact mirrors of each other, I think there are definitely people saying should not on both questions due to isolationism, for instance. Would be interesting to see the crosstabs on this one.

Edit: Though honestly, I know the trouble with binary polls is that you can make people vouch for something they dont believe, but 30% of Dems opposing humanitarian aid is insane.

Remember that Australian billionaire that Trump told national security secrets about the capabilities of our nuclear submarines to? Well, it sounds like there are tapes (of the billionaire) where he describes his relationship with Trump. Along with info where he would "voluntarily" pay Mar-a-Lago $1m for tickets that cost way less ($50,000.) Also compares how Trump operates with the mafia.

The New York Times reports...
In his interviews with prosecutors, Mr. Pratt recounted how Mr. Trump once revealed to him sensitive information about American nuclear submarines, an episode that Mr. Trump denies. Another witness told prosecutors about hearing uncorroborated reports that Mr. Pratt spent $1 million for tickets to Mar-a-Lago New Year's Eve gala -- voluntarily paying the club a huge markup for tickets that actually cost $50,000 or less, according to two people with knowledge of the previously unreported testimony.

[...]

Behind closed doors, however, Mr. Pratt described Mr. Trump's business practices as being "like the mafia," according to covert recordings obtained by "60 Minutes Australia" and shared with The Times.

[..]

At one point, Mr. Pratt said, Mr. Trump discussed the phone call he had with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine earlier that year that had helped lead to Mr. Trump's first impeachment. "That was nothing compared to what I usually do," Mr. Trump said, in Mr. Pratt's recounting.

[...]

In a draft version of a speech Mr. Pratt gave to a Jewish group in the fall of 2019, he bluntly planned to reveal becoming a member of MAr-a-Lago to get a "seat at the table where the president relaxes socially, and mingles with his guests."

The draft speech, provided to The Times by "60 Minutes Australia," tracks closely with the remarks delivered by Mr. Pratt but contains several crossed-out lines that describe a transactional relationship with Mr. Trump. It is not clear whether Mr. Pratt himself wrote the speech or if he crossed out the lines.

Membership at Mar-a-Lago, one crossed-out line of the draft states, "definitely turned out to be a strategic investment -- and a very good investment."

Another crossed-out line: "President Trump is a very reciprocal man."

Yeah, the executive can unilaterally withdraw from NATO if they so choose. Congress has floated the idea of passing a law saying they can't without 2/3s of the Senate a number of times, including during Trump's term, but never passed it (think it's currently making the rounds again in the current Senate as well). Whether that kind of law itself would be constitutional, idk.

Even if they could not, the President being Commander in Chief could simply refuse to assist NATO or move troops out, etc. And withdraw in all but name.

Edit: Oh, apparently the current Senate actually got that NATO provision into the FY 2024 NDAA (the big defense spending bill that is generally considered a "must-pass") - but it still isn't fully passed by Congress and *looks at House* lmao. And again, I remain unclear if Congress can set that limitation or if it would be considered a breach of separation of powers. Also, the NDAA is currently in conference because the House bill is wildly different and so they have to agree to one version of the bill so idk if it survives that.

Reps voted for Tom Emmer in secret conference. He doesn't have enough support to win a floor vote.

Round and round we go.

Texas Rep. Troy Nehls says:
I think Donald Trump is our answer, he said. Maybe for the first time in the history of our democracy, we should consider somebody from the outside. I suggested, if we go to the House floor for a vote, it is our leader Donald J. Trump for 100 days.
